Panic much? Red Sox are still in good shape to make the postseason. They just played badly against the Tigers. There's too much talent not to believe they won't bounce back and resume their winning ways.

Red Sox should be buyers at the trade deadline.

i dont disagree with you. like i said in my post...someone needed to say it.

It will be interesting to see what the team prioritizes between now and Monday... we've heard rumors about adding another SP, another good RP, or possibly a catcher (Lucroy), but I don't think anyone thinks we'll do all three, or even two out of the three (unless we want to seriously deplete our depth).

So my question, TalkSox crowd, is.... If we only could make one significant move before the deadline, what would you like to see?

the acquisition of an Ace.

Trade Pedroia and Holt for some young pitching. Bring up Moncada and the Italian kid. Rest Big Papi about half the time. Make the middle of the line-up read Betts-Bradley-Boegarts. Any order you want as long as it's right-left-right. (Right now, opposing managers are drooling, late in the game) when they see right right right, then left left left. That makes it real easy to get people warmed up. Give the 40,000 people who show up every day something to cheer about. Get a pitching coach. Get a manager whos is not a "nice guy".

Sounds like giving up on the season to me.

Nope, we've already given up enough minor league talent.

fair. i would be fine standing pat this deadline and let the chips fall where they may on this season. (im just not sure DD will).

"Yup" but still no ace!

Espinoza, Margot, de la Rosa, Guerra, Basabe, Allen, Webster, Asuaje and more...

for

Kimbrel, Pomeranz, Carson Smith (via Miley) and Aaron Hill

No ace!

I think I'd rather look to next season and, especially, a half decent pitching staff. Pedro said the other day that we shouldn't worry about Price. I've been "worried" about Price ever since the trade. His past playoff performances have been a disaster. I wonder why. It may have been a decent gamble, but I think Pedro was doing a little hopeful cheer leading. Wright may have some good games left, but it looks like hot-weather sweats are a bigger problem than anticipated. Betts, Bogaerts and Papi have carreid the offense, but it looks to me that Papi knew what he was talking about when he decided to ring down the curtain. I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's an every other day player for the rest of his career. We sure can't expect him to equal his first half.

The bullpen is a total mess. Almost as bad as the starters, the Yankees are 4 games (the last time I looked) behind us and coming up on the outside like Whirlaway. No, I have.not thrown in the towel, but I'd rather lose getting younger, than hang around for a one game playoff.

But, I'll be at the TV promptly at 10 tonight, and watch the game until I crap out. Msyne the 7th. ot so!

But when we start raking again and we will, along with a few quality starts, this team looks like it can make a run. Then we go a few games the other way. Real frustrating sometimes, but as long as we have a shot, hope is there. Better than last year. We can't get stupid and trade away any more talent unless were getting = value. I want to see what Moncada, Benny, Kopech, and Devers and a few others can do on our team. We have the talent and can use more, but lets not screw up what could be a power house team in the near future. I would bet that at least 2 or 3 of our top 5 will be special, and at least one will be a stud. Just saying... And by the way, I would love to have Sale, but the way he whips the ball, it looks like he will be having elbow issues. Maybe not, but the torque he throws with looks scary.

Looking to next year and beyond are all well and good. I'd rather look to the future than spend too much to win here and now, but with Papi retiring next year, we're going to have to greatly improve the staff to just compensate for Papi's loss.

Well, when you lose your top 4 RP'ers what can you expect?

Luckily, it's 9 pm here in Texas.

All of Sox top brass have made the west coast trip. I wonder if they are interested in acquiring a player from a west coast team.

Maybe just enjoying the trip.

I doubt we make any big moves. The overpay this time of year is too extreme.

Maybe they brought their families, so they could go to Disney Land.

This trip is going to be very enjoyable for once. (IMO)

Then again, maybe not.

His bat would be a nice addition.

At first I thought it was a bad idea, but I then changed my mind on him. It depends on the cost, of course, but since getting any type of pitching help is going to cost a fortune, upgrading the offense (Lucroy is good defensively as well) makes sense, even if offense is not our weakness.

Leon looks good right now, but he and his .469 BABIP will come crashing down to earth.

I would like for us to get some starting pitching depth. We don't need a front liner necessarily, but we need depth.

Marlins get Cashner and Rea

Needed another pitcher to put in the rotation since they'll be trading Fernandez to the Sox this weekend.

Good sleeper pick this year. I'll bet the Cubs don't want to face them in the playoffs, especially with the ghosts of '03.
