I got an alert that the Rangers are close to a deal for Sale.

I think it's a lot of smoke with no fire. In the same position I would never deal Sale. The White Sox just need some bats, their position is solvable without sacrificing their 2 aces. why trade away such major assets when you probably don't have to?

Totally agree. Moncada should play where he is most comfortable because his bat will be dynamic. If that means trading Pede, so be it.

Betts was a second baseman too. Glad we didn't dump pedroia so that betts could play where he is comfy....

I can't really see it happening either, but if there's even a chance, we need to be all over it. If I'm Dombrowski, I'm basically stalking the White Sox GM until the deadline passes without either guy being moved.

I'm surprised to see you say that.

It'll gut the farm.

No doubt it would gut the farm. As I said, wishful thinking on my part. I am only thinking about how awesome the return would be, not the cost.

Pede is not part of the future. Trade him now while he still has value.

And sabotage the chances for this year and the next few. Brilliant.

The sox probably are in the best position to offer up chips to get him. Any one but Moncada to me on the farm can go. That being said, you can only go so far.

Open your eyes, Pede is slipping in the field. Moving him is going to hurt are chances, thats funny

Pedroia is currently the best defensive 2B in baseball according to the metrics. He looks pretty good by the eye test too.

No offense, but that's absurd. He's 4th on the team in WAR.

No matter, I'm quite confident that management doesn't subscribe to such idiocy.

He's not good enough to be worrying about moving one of the top prospects in baseball to another position "homer"

No way. Pedroia has been great defensively this season.

No way they're going to trade Pedroia while they're in the pennant race. If they were going to trade Pedroia, the time to do it would have been last year. rebounding from the basement and looking for a well-regarded MLB-ready starting pitching prospect as a return. The plan would have then been for Holt to hold the position down until someone from the farm made it their own. It wouldn't have been a terrible plan, but at the moment I think we're all certainly glad the team didn't make that call.

I haven't seen anything saying they were close, just that the two were talking. Chicago supposedly wanted Gallo and Profar plus more.

I don't doubt this...it's just a matter of how far we want to go.

Would something like Moncada, Rodriguez, Swihart, Owens, and another prospect (not top 5) possibly be enough for Sale? That's one of the best prospects in the game, a major league ready SP and position player with years of cheap control, another potential back end starter, and a lottery ticket. I might even substitute Kopech for Owens. If we could pull this off while holding on to the Bogaerts/Betts/JBJ trinity and at least one of Moncada and Benintendi, I'd be very sorely tempted.

I didn't say we would offer the best package, but we probably could offer the best package of young players and/or top quality prospects than just about anyone else.

Sale and Quintana are both the type of pitcher a GM dreams of having a chance to acquire. These type of low cost, team- controlled, top quality SP'ers don't become available very often.

I've been against many of the deals we have made so far, because I think we overpayed for the wrong type or pitcher (Pomeranz) or the wrong position and high cost (Kimbrel) pitcher. These two pitchers are the types of pitchers I envisioned hoarding all our top prospects to assemble a massive package that blows away other trade contenders.

Maybe we could not get either of these guys for Swihart, Espi, Margot, Devers, Guerra and Kopech. The CWS would almost certainly demand Moncada and/or Benintendi plus some from my list above to pry one of these guys loose, but it does make me wonder... what if...?

With Sale becoming available, it certainly makes me ask the question: Would a package of Espinoza/Erod/Margot/Guerra/Swihart have gotten it done?

It seems like all this team's assets went for small fish, when we all wanted tuna.

We'll have to wait and see. Personally I think you guys are chasing moonbeams. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I dont think so. That is a pipe dream.

Pipe dreams are certain things when they tools to criticize DD.

The fantasy trade scenarios are covert whining about the Kimbrel/Pomeranz trade.

As good as he is, i do not have a good feeling about Chris Sale. If you are going to give up the best that you have potentially, you better be damned sure that you are getting not just a quality pitcher but I quality person as well. I like everything about David Price - I don't feel the same way about Sale. I would never give up what they are going to want for him. We aren't all that bad without him.
