Serious baseball fans are familiar with Dave Cameron, managing editor of FanGraphs, which an analyst in the Washington Nationals' research and development department calls "the pinnacle of the online sabermetric community." Here is a link to a Washington Post article about FanGraphs:

Cameron is one of my favorites. I would love to have a couple of beers with him and pick his brain, and I don't even like beer.

I should not have posted that statement. There was no ill intent, but regardless, I apologize.

Everyone should read your posts then form their own opinion because, although I often disagree with your posts, they usually offer valuable insight

Thank you, Kimmi.

Hasn't Brentz finally proven he's DFA worthy?

I'm fine with a DFA or Coyle instead. I guess maybe Noe Ramirez is a choice as well.

There is definitely someone on the 40 man that could be DFA'd without much of a 2nd thought.

We won't need a 5th starter until close to the end of the month.

I'm sure he'd let you have a wine cooler.

All except his posts about a certain second baseman. ;)

Yeah, but we need a 4th starter now.

I have perfectly reasonable opinions about Marty Barrett and Jody Reed.

Yeah, why can't we get players like that anymore?

Some nice Dombrowski quotes in this one.

"We're looking for any way to make ourselves better," Dombrowski said. "And I don't mean to say by any means you don't continue to try to look to get better with talent perspective also, which we will continue to try to do."

Dombrowski was asked if the Red Sox are capable of putting together a playoff caliber pitching staff with just internal fixes.

"We'll see," Dombrowski said. "I'm not sure if I'm ready to answer that question. We'll see what happens. I thought a couple guys would perform better than they have. They haven't so far. You never give up hope. You keep working on them. I think there's still some capabilities there but we haven't done it so far collectively. I mean, I'm not telling you any secrets: Our fourth and fifth starters' earned run average is over 7.00 collectively. Well, that's not good enough to win if that continues.

"So now, can it come from within? Yes. Can it come from outside? Yes. Can it come from a combination? Yes."

Doesthe promotion or addition (if you like) of Brian Bannister tell us anything? He did work closely with Rich Hill last season and he's been money ever since. Is a trade for Hill in the cards?

What it tells me is that we could be getting top heavy with management types or that Willis might be on the clock.

so about Lucroy - We need pitching but nothing outstanding is available at present. Lucroy would certainly look like a good addition but there are only so many catchers that you can pile up in Pawtucket. Guess Vazquez's future doesn't look so certain?

Leon - no? Release Hanigan? Swihart no longer a candidate for the job at all? This certainly would be a case where doing nothing looks like the better option to me unless Vazquez was put on the trading block.

Obviously I think it's matter of asking price (duh).....Difficult task is for Sox to have a clear understanding and planning as to what they want the team to look like for next 5 years. They need to flush out duplicity in the system in order to execute any trade. Is it Swihart? Are they ready to move away from him? Have they given up on him as a catcher? If that's the case then as Moon has often stated his trade value is much higher than what he can do for Sox as an outfielder especially in light of progress Benintendi is making? Do you offer Espinoza knowing that pitching prospects are often crap shoot? What if he's another Owens in making? Different skill sets but same results? Does pending signing of our #1 draft pick come into play?

If we can sign a power bat as a DH, then we're stuck with Hanley at 1B for three more years (his 5th year vests based on plate appearance for 2017-2018 seasons). Or do we live him at DH with the thought of relocating Shaw at 1B while Sam Travis heals?

Does the ultimate lineup look like Benintendi in LF, Moncada at 3B, Shaw at 1B and Hanley DH? Or Benintendi becomes expendable with the thought that Moncad's best position is LF?

If we do get Hill, does the qualifying offer good enough for him to return to Sox in 2017? Or will it necessitate 2 yrs and $20M+? We do have $13M coming off the books for Bucholtz.

What can we get if we packaged Benintendi, Espinoza and Swihart? That leaves us with Moncada in left, Shaw at 3B, Hanley at 1B and add a power bat at DH. Hell we haven't even discussed Devers.

O'Sullivan held his own in his last start. He will be the 4th starter unless he completely bombs.

How anyone disregards my opinion on Buchholz is beyond me.

Cameron is probably a big pothead though. :D

Well, Dave Cameron did recently move to Oregon, where marijuana is legal (and I believe Cameron grew up in Washington, which has legalized pot as well).

But I live in Oregon and I don't get high.

On pot.

I doubt either of us does prescription drugs recreationally (although each of us is married to a doctor).

I don't think Benny is expendable, even if Moncada plays LF, we still need a DH next year & I'd rather have a revolving one. Although, Benny wld probably play LF & Moncada would DH if tgey both got called up.

As far as Hill goes, I'm thinking a few prospects they like and nothing really that close to what we'd consider blue chips. They signed him for one year and he's 36. He was never a big part of their plans long term. We'd pay the rest of this year's contract of course, and offer more than what they'd get for a comp pick. A very attractive offer, but no blue chips. They want that we walk away and say no thanks.

As Moon will tell you, DD has a history of overpaying.....lol....jk Moon. That subject is CLOSED (I bet the 4 guys we traded could have done just as well last night)

Dave Dombrowsi once traded Baseball America's No. 6 and No. 10 prospects -- Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller -- and four other prospects for two years of then 24-year-old Miguel Cabrera and two years of nearly 26-year-old lefthander Dontrelle Willis coming off a dreadful season.

The first Miggy extension made the deal work out.

The Willis addition didn't work out like our Lowell addition, did it?

:)

To be clear: The first Miguel Cabrera extension came three-and-a-half months after Cabrera's trade to Detroit.

Everyone says Trout in un tradable. I almost have to agree. But everyone has there price. Depending on need. If we owned Trout right now, and also had Betts, Bradley, with Benny coming up, would you trade Trout to get Pedro. Just for fun we'll put Pedro at 28 yrs old. I know this is past, present, but an interesting trade.
