BDC Ellis Island: Give Us Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses...

Some may be aware, The BDC Forum at the Globe site is shutting down in 1 month. It has been a great community for YEARS and I know some of you were and are members there. A lot of us are left without a place to post. Some of the most knowledgeable Sox fans I have ever met are on that board and I think they could add to the already great conversations that happen here. To the site mod....please accept their 'application' when they apply as you may start seeing a lot of people showing up. To the other members here....please accept them with open arms. I am hoping that once they join they post on this thread so we can see who 'showed up'.

Thanks!

Hey Kingface...this is Hfxsoxnut from that board. This place will be quite something if we get a big inflow from there. :D

Hey Nut!! Good to see you here! Yes.......really hope a bunch come over from there. I knew many thought about starting a new forum. Starting a new forum is good and all, but this place already has a strong membership and one of the complaints there was that it was getting to be too small. Why not join where there already are some great posters?

Members of that forum are of course welcome here. My request would be to please play nice with the existing and long established community here. It's been a challenge integrating other boards in the past so hopefully this one goes smoother if people do choose to come over to Talksox.

Hi King. It stinks that the Globe is shutting down its forums. That said, there are a lot of good posters there whom I have missed and would love to be able to post with again. I've noticed a lot of familiar names popping up at the bottom of the main page. :)

I haven't been here that long myself, a little over a year. I have to say that all of the members here were very welcoming when I joined and they made me feel right at home. They are an awesome and knowledgeable group.

And to the long time posters and mods (who are awesome), I can also vouch for the BDC members who are looking for a new home. They are a good group and knowledgeable too.

Welcome!

All are welcome! Except for those who have previously been banned, apparently.

Actually, only one. But it would be unfair to single out that one. ;)

No worries. It's not like 'The Walking Dead'.........we'll play nice! ;)

I think you'll find that there are a lot of great posters there that simply want to talk Sox, have good natured yet spirited debates and just hang out to get away from 'life'.

Thanks for the welcome Kimmi and the vote of confidence. You were missed over there......although I understand why you left. This seems like a great place and I'm looking forward to contributing here. There's already 4 that I know of who are awaiting approval. Hopefully it happens soon.....that place is going south fast.

Hola from dbeach48

New here

Go RS

Hey dbeach48. Are you from the BDC? If so, what was your handle? That will help us new people know who 'came over'.

I'm new here. I was on the Globe site after moving from Maine to Mexico City in 2004. I needed my Sox fix. I've lived in Sugar Land, Texas for the last 9 years and still need my daily "fix", so here I am. I look forward to some deep Sox discussions. I'm a poster who likes to support my opinions with facts and data, so bear with me, if numbers are not your thing. I will say, I'm not all about data. I played the wonderful game of baseball for over 2 decades before switching to softball as I aged. I realize winning baseball is often related to intangibles that no data can reveal.

I'm a huge Sox fan. I used to live in Milwaukee and became a big Tommy Harper fan. My family moved to Maine when I was 12 years old. Soon afterwards Tommy Harper was traded to the Red Sox, and I switched to being a Sox fan. It hasn't been easy. Decades of frustration were followed by the extreme joy of 2004 and the championships that followed, however I moved to Mexico City in late 2004. I quickly found myself missing the water cooler Sox talk, so I joined the Boston Globe Sox Forum. Four years later, my wife, daughter and I moved to Sugar Land, Texas. After over 50,000 posts on that site, I was saddened to hear they were shutting down. So, here I am. I'm looking forward to some spirited debates and more championships to celebrate together.

You are from the same era as a number of others on this board including me. Also, 50,000 + posts is impressive. That takes some commitment.

So is this the lunch table where all the transfer students will hang out until we inevitably branch out and make new friends?

Nice to see some familiar faces in here.

LOL! I hope not. I also hope that we have some night owls in this new crew as I am often here posting until 2 in the morning and beyond.

scrolling this forum I can see it's very similar to BDC. You have your old timers, your not so old timers, your stat guys, your non stat guys, the argumentative types, the clueless, the smarties, a few Yankee trolls, some prospect loving folk, some pessimists, and some optimists.

I think we are going to fit in just fine here.

Just try not to make blanket statements about my views that are blatantly lacking veracity, and I'm willing to try again.
