what's DFA mean???

Designated for assignment (or DFA) is a contractual term used in Major League Baseball. A player who is designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team's 40-man roster, after which the team must either: return the player to the 40-man roster within 10 days from the date of designation, or make one of the following contractual moves:

1. Place the player on waivers (which can only be done within the first seven days of the 10-day period)

2. Trade the player

3. Release the player

4. Outright the player from the 40-man roster into the Minor Leagues

Are you really whining about Koji and Kimbrel (who is new to the team) on April 18th iortiz? That's a whining record, even for you. Congrats!

Hahaha again, no one is whining. Chill out. You just can't handle an opinion, can you?.

And I think #4 requires the player's consent - that is (with some service time) a player can refuse an assignment

My post was just copy pasta from wikipedia.

Shaw is becoming an impact middle order bat. He'll have to be when Ortiz is gone.

Terrible outing from Koji, but we panic before since he was AUTOMATIC. Hates seeing this, but he's 41. Can't be perfect every time.

I never thought I would say this, given that I prefer good baseball to bad baseball, but I kind of miss the days when the Yankees were the only other decent team in the division, and playing 57 games against Toronto, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay was good for 30-40 wins a season.

These are the kinds of games that really hurt. It figures that when we get a very strong starting pitching performance, our pen and our offense (somewhat) let us down. UGH Very frustrating because we could have swept the Jays, and should have at least won 3. Oh well.

The good news is that we have seen some pretty good starting pitching performances in this last turn. Still too soon to determine anything, but it's encouraging.

Bautista has hit into 3 double plays today, that some kind of record?
Joe Torre once hit into 4 DPs in a game I think. He blamed Felix Milan for getting on base in front of him.

We need Good Buch this season, and today we got Great Buch. The lineup without Ortiz and Holt but with Young was flat, but people will make the excuse about how dominant Happ was. Eyeroll. Shaw is just flat out earning his spot on this team every single game. He can play 1B and 3B more than adequately. He can hit RHP and LHP. He is a good everyday player. Koji looks like there is nothing left in his tank. His first pitch was 79 mph and he threw other non-breaking balls at 81 mph. Most concerning is that he has always been a strike throwing machine. His ball to strike ratio was pathetic today. Dumbass Farrell put Kimbrell in a tight spot from which he did not escape.

BTW, anyone whining about today is too short sighted. Buchholz looked vintage today against a good lineup. First time I have seen him throw well in over a year

Will you stop.

Buch had two bad outings this year. Last year he was ace like until he went down.

How'd you feel if I went on a Yanks board and made up a bunch of s***.

I think Victor Martinez grounded into 4 a few years ago too. I recall at the time they mentioned two other guys had done it. Torre and another guy whose name I don't recall, but I think he was with the Yankees.

"Ace like?" I can't agree with that at all. He was good, but no ace.

Isn't that the very definition of ace "like"? As in, a simple imitation? He had the peripherals (3.26 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 8.5 K/9, 1.8 BB/9, 132 ERA+) but of course did not have the innings, his usual caveat.

All the games are tense, we gotta score some to give the bullpen a break. We go to Taz/Ue/Kimbrel what seems to be everygame.

Station, you make some pretty good observations.

John Farrell tends to fall into patterns that seem unbreakable regardless of what is going on. 7th - 8th - 9th - over and over and over again. I don't care how good you are, ain't going to work every time.

We must have been watching a different pitcher.

The Red Sox are going to be in first place before the end of the month.

I like your style. Orioles have to play the BJ's, Lourde's, Devil Rays and ChiSox in the next two weeks.

Sox have to play Devil Rays, Altuves, Atlanta Baseballers (bitter rivalry) and Spanks.

I could not be much happier with this game. Only thing missing was a win and a few hits (but we know our offense is great). We have almost all the pieces into place.

What? Buchholz was good, but bullpen, offense and our manager were all horrible.
