Pablo will only be 30 next year. Wow. That's 30 years of hard living though.

Yes but 30 in fat guy years is like 38.

True enough about the fat stuff but also true about the 30. It isn't likely to happen but he could turn back time. I don't know him and I haven't read one thing about him. What I would say though is that he has great talent and if he was motivated to do so, he could turn back time and be more than productive. When you are 30, it is not to late. Unlikely maybe but possible.

Five Red Sox on MLB.com's midseason top 100 update:

#2 Moncada

#7 Benintendi

#25 Devers

#42 Groome

#83 Kopech

(Plus Espinoza at #21 and Margot at #36.)

Wow! 6 in the top 42!

4 in the top 25!

I don't really see the point of including Espinoza and Margot any more.

It's not the most important point, but it does have usefulness.

It shows how well we picked young players over recent years.

Espi and Margot helped us get Kimbrel and Pomeranz- surely that has value that would not be reflected in ignoring their rankings on the charts.

Kopech 9 k's, 0 runs over 5 innings. Love this kids make up..

I was getting close to giving up on this guy after the PED suspension, but he's begun to turn things around.

You love his makeup? Maybe his stuff, but his makeup? Suspended 50 games and then loses time due to a fight? Sounds like the million dollar arm, 10 cent head phenomenon

Still very young though.

I hope Kopech can put it all together and become that SP'er we haven't gotten from our farm in a long, long time.

I've all but given up on Owens and Johnson, and Groome is just 17, so our more immediate hope lies with Michael.

Dude can't even buy a beer unless he goes to Montreal or Europe. I'd hold off on worrying about his makeup just yet. He's learning how to be an adult under a microscope. I'm glad no one was watching the stupid s*** I did from 18 - 24.

Johnson is back in Pawtucket and is said to be looking good.

Greinke was able to deal with his psychological issues. I'm hope Johnson can as well.

I think the treatment of anxiety "disorders" among ballplayer is something that has a high success rate without recurrence. I am more skeptical regarding whether he has MLB stuff and whether his arm can stay healthy. I think he will overcome this other issue.

soxprospects.com still has Johnson ranked 7th (behind Sam TRavis and ahead of Luis Basabe, so they view him as a legitimate prospect.

Mike Shawaryn 27th

Big jumpers in their most recent revision of their rankings are:

Ockimey 37>9

R Raudes 33>16

Shepherd 30>20

J Cosart 44>29

Washington 55>31

Matheny 57>32

J Haley NR>35

Romanski 59>43

Big declines:

Hernandez above Travis? I guess we really have no idea what he'll look like upon returning from injury. Honestly, no one outside of the top 5 should be counted on for much of anything. I'd love to see Johnson become productive, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I agree on the big drop off after number 5.

.

Basabe and maybe Travis maybe have the highest upside, but I like Hernandez, because he can play SS, 3B and probably 2B very well. He turns 24 soon, so still has room to improve. He had a .766 OPS in AAA this year in just 172 PAs. His .736 career AAA OPS is better than Shaw's.

One thing I find impressive about Devers is how age advanced he is for his level, what started off as a tough year has really started to turn around. From what I gather from many of the scouts that have seen him play is that he was getting great at bats and making loud contact a month before the numbers really started to show....he was literally just hitting the ball hard at people.

Right now he looks like he's mastered the level, still I think he'll get the complimentary AA cup of coffee with 1-2 weeks left. But he started off at the same level as Benintendi and Moncada this year and he's apx 1.5-2.5 years younger than both those guys. I think he could be knocking on the door as early as late next year and might break the line up permanently sometime in 2018.

Our top 4 prospects are still as good as anyones out there, I think Kopech is in his own tier between those guys and everyone else in the system. It's pretty baron after that, there are a few guys who have high ceilings but tons of question marks and little track record. There are also a few names that have high potential in the bullpen.

Great post. This kid is so young, it's amazing what he's doing. Even if we fast-track this kid, I think 2018 is the earliest we see him...maybe Sept '18.
