Watch Dipoto get GM now

I wouldn't be too upset with that. You can argue that a lot of the ridiculous contracts that LA threw out were the result of Moreno meddling in s*** he should've stayed out of.

Frank Wren is leading candidate for GM according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Don't know if he's just guessing or has heard something.

Just getting better. FRANK WRECK!

I'd rather have Dipoto than Wren...

It had to be done. Now, we have a true professional in charge.

Well done JH, well done.

To me, Cherington seemed like a puppet than anything else.

Dombrowski put in Detrot competitive teams for how many years? 4, 5? At least he built very solid rotations in Detroit as I recall. At least we have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is a very good start... they are addressing the root of the problem.

Hanley and Fatboy are first!!!

I have no problem with that as long they get rid of Porcello and Miley.

When I heard that the announcers had big news, I thought maybe they unloaded Porcello or made a similar big trade. I really didn't think they would make this decision in season. Maybe JH read the remarks about no plans to move Hanley's position before the end of the season, and just couldn't believe how dense he was being.

Thanks for 2013, Cherington. Farrell and the coaching staff should follow suit. They also better goddamn have someone manage DD's BP assembly. His ineptitude at building a bullpen is the only reason he doesn't have multiple rings.

Overall, my feelings about changes in the FO can be summed up in one word, "Next!" It is Dombrowski's job to lose. Ben blew himself up with a series of stupid moves. He left ownership with no choice but to fire him. I can't see the next FO team as being any worse. Dombrowski is a wheeler dealer so it should be an interesting off season. He does not sit on his hands.

Mark my words, in 2019 when Dombrowski and Dipoto get fired after winning a world series, but also have a couple losing seasons, I will flame the ever living s*** out of this board.

Ben's the man. May he have an excellent career with Theo in Chicago. Thanks for 2013.

Maybe you can join SCM as a newly minted Cubs fan.

Won't be surprised if Porcello and Miley are the next moves. They are clogging our rotation.

This had to be done. Cherington left a mess, let's see what Dombrowsky has in mind.

I don't see this move making a huge impact right away. Ben may have blundered some but you can't forget the shedding of those huge contracts plus the WS in 2013. To top that off DD isn't a stats guy which isn't a fit with this front office, not to mention he can't build a bullpen to save his life. I hate to see Ben go despite the last two seasons and the mistakes made, but his job was safe and he chose to step down. Thanks for 2013 Ben, and good luck Dombrowski.

In almost 50 years of rooting for the Red Sox, I can't remember a GM being fired during the season, and they had a coup d'etat in the early 80's. This speaks volumes to what a horrible job Ben has been doing that they needed to make this change immediately.

What would you have done to turn around the team?

They're going to mix him up with some analytical guys to see if they can recreate what they had in the Epstein era. This could be a great thing or it could blow up in their face.

At this point I don't know. I can't disagree that the moves made this past season killed their chances and the gross display of mismanagement made things that much worse. I think Farrell is more to blame than Ben in a way because he didn't use the pieces he could to either turn things around or give the farm pieces more chances to prove their stake in the future. That's not to say Ben couldn't have done things to prevent this, and he's not free of blame either. I would have traded the cancers, eaten the cost and had the rookies play. That would have at least made for a better season than watching Hanleys f***ing helmet fall off all year.

I think that D is going to keep us competitive at least every year, just as he did in Det. He has shown how a balanced team has to be built... and that is all I ask. Su talón de Aquiles is the BP, hopefully he learned his lessons in that regard.

I think Cherington was awesome in 2013, made ballsy and intelligent moves. I can forgive him for not following it up in 2014 because it was supposed to be a rebuild but getting rid of Lester was bad and then getting Hanley and Sandoval was bad. Also not getting any semblance of a pitching staff or bullpen was bad.

I just hope Dombrowski doesn't just try to buy our way to success.

I don't know, I'm torn. There was some good and some bad. I do hope the future brings the team to a competitive level. Thankfully we have a great farm system at this point.

Letting go Lester and trading Lackey while getting Porcello marked his destiny.

Three out of four years of last place finishes was unprecedented bad that has not happened since before Tom Yawkey bought the team.

Thanks for the 2013 Championship, Ben. Unfortunately, two consecutive losing seasons and the worst career performances from some players who were, up until this season, pretty good, basically makes you Adolsama Bin Hitler.
