Dombrowski will be President of Baseball Operations. Cherington declined to stay on as General Manager but will stay on to assist in the transition.

f*** Dombrowski. He's just carrying ownership's water. Total jock sniffer, TBH.

I may be calling him Dumbass Dombrowski in the future but Ben had to go. He earned it. I wonder if a new GM will be named too.

I'm crying tears of joy. This is a dream come true. Since Day 1, I've waited for the day Cherington leaves.

Don and Jerry welcomed the move. Jerry said more than he had to in support of the change basically saying Cherrington didn't have the experience to handle the job. At least that's what I inferred from his comments.

Would be surprised if they name one before the season ends.

Um, ok?

Not a fan of Dombrowski. I'll reserve judgment til we see who's got GM duties. It's been a broken record around here, but the roster mismanagement by Ben was ridiculous and has almost certainly assured another last place finish. You don't last long in this game wasting that kind of money with no results to show for it.

$215 million for Fielder = a big yes.

Fielder is one of best hitters in baseball and they ended up getting Kinsler for him, it's worked out way better than almost all of Cherringtons moves.

Colossal overpay. If that was such a great move why did they dump him, eating a huge chunk of cheese in the process.

But he dumped him after year 1.

Not sure if you're misreading my reply, but this is my point. Huge overpay for a DH who would break down, and then you dump him eating a ton of money.

Good start.

Now have the balls to undo the Hanley / Fatboy mistakes at some considerable cost and move on building a real team.

This is shocking. I know his tenure here as GM has been a rocky one, with 3 awful teams out of 4, but Ben did build a World Series team and he's been here since before Theo was in charge and since they came on board the Sox have had their greatest run of success since the turn of the 20th century.

It ended badly but I'll always look upon Ben Cherington fondly and wish him the best of luck in the future. It's a shame it turned out this way for him but dare I say that overall, BC had a positive influence on the fortunes of the Boston Red Sox during his time in our Front Office.

Flame way, gentlemen.
