For 13 mil, even three months of a healthy Buchholz is worth it.

I also think the cost control allows him to be a useful trade asset - which would not stun me ...

Yup, if he's healthy in July (which is not a given) and they don't plan to extend him, he could get the Sox a decent return.

This year he pitches great and then gets injured in July, before they can trade him. The guy has a lot of tricks up his sleeve.

Buch is usually injured in June, certainly before the All Star Break.

I know it's a word that's used, but there has to be something better than 'handedness'.

They differ in their 'laterality'?

Porcello displays 'dextrality' while Miley displays 'sinistrality'.

Thank you for making me learn something this morning. :)

Umm yeah, Kimmi? You ought to know as well as I do that you can never count on Stickbones to be healthy.

I was referring to if he is healthy at the end of the season, ie., he won't be needing TJS.

If he is healthy, then he should be re-signed. He may or may not make it through the entire season next year (more likely not), but he is absolutely worth the risk, even if he only makes it through half the season. The key with him is to not rely on him to be the #1 guy and to have a back up plan in the likely event that he gets injured.

Yeah, but did you know that sinistrality was derived from "sinister?

It's stems from a time when lefties were considered evil. LOL

I did not know that very interesting tidbit!

Let me guess, you're a lefty? LOL

My goodness, Allen Craig has $21 million left on his contract. Another complete waste. When Ben made bad moves, they really were almost completely indefensible. It's not like Craig turned bad after we got him. He had already crashed and burned.

The Cardinals seem to know when to move guys. Who could have seen Craig's ability to hit big league pitching disappear like it did. I think the Cards knew that Kelly was a starter trapped in a relievers body. The Sox can only hope that he continues to have strong outings the rest of 2015 and give them another chip to bring back an ace.

I am getting a little sick of all this talk from management about how much has been asked of Hanley Ramirez. Seriously? He is getting $88 million that no other team would give him. Is it asking too much of him not to embarrass himself and his team on a nightly basis in LF. Maybe he should have worked at it just a little. Now, they have to beg him to try to play first base? They are talking to him about it? They are suggesting certain fielding drills that will not involve his shoulder? Seriously? They need to ship his ass out of town. Period.

But, but, but, they asked him to change position. It's not his fault!!!!

I'm with you. Get rid of the f***ing bum.

They ned to DL him for rest of season. Have him work out at 1b all offseason and either deal him or figure out how to make it work. He's sucked ever since the shoulder injury, so why play him?

What no love for hanley? Can't blame anyone for that really. They took a huge chance with him and it didn't work out. A lot of things people were just hoping would go right for him that didn't. They do need to deal him. if he is not dealt, I really hope that his leash is short at first base. He doesn't need to be there for half a season to determine whether he can play the position. Once again, the Sandoval signing i could understand not so much with Ramirez. Just too many issues to hope would turn out right.

If he is injured, he is injured. You can't reasonably expect management to force him to play through an injury that would not only affect his performance, but could very well also cause more damage.

That said, if the injury is not legit and is rather just an excuse for Hanley to not have to play first base or to not have to work hard, then there is no defending him.

With Taz seemingly incapable and unwilling to take on the closer role and with Uehara turning 100 on baseball years, DD needs to get a viable plan B to close for next season in addition to completely revamping the bullpen. How many pitchers from our current bullpen do you think return for 2016? I am going with 2-- definitely Taz and Uehara is 50/50.

You know ... there is something to be said about a guy who wanted to come to Boston and was willing to change positions for it to happen - and is willing to try it again. For as bad as his season has been, you compare it to the international diplomacy required for the Yankees to have Derek Jeter, trade for a better shortstop and still have to keep the inferior alignment to manage egos. As far as Hanley worrying about his body - well, he is a guy who has been injured a lot ... so a bit of sensitivity is fair.

Tazawa and Uehara ... last injury was a freak one, and Uehara is still really good, and since his effectiveness depends on movement and command, one is bullish. He is not the superhuman force he was in 2013, but he doesn't have to be. That was one of the great "1-inning closer" seasons of all time.

Other guys are hard to evaluate because of the starting. But a "throw stuff at the wall" approach to relievers is a generally sound one.

The Red Sox don't seem to be able to develop any good relievers internally of late. The Yankees seem to have been doing much better at that.

Nonsense. They paid him $22. mil a year for 4 years.

That is what can be said.

It is funny when some talk about athletes as human beings in one context (such as clutchy mcclutcherson) and as automotons in another.

Hanley should be begging the FO to get him out of the outfield........

According to Lovullo, Hanley will not play in the outfield again this season. De Aza is gone. It looks like Betts, JBJ, and Castillo the rest of the way out.
