It sure doesn't feel like the Red Sox are done. They have a lot of extraneous pieces, but I doubt they're enough to get the reliable starter they need.

Elias, Shaw, Hannigan, Barnes, Workman. Maybe Buchholz, Johnson or even Swihart/Owens could get moved. The Kimbrel trade will definitely hurt them in negotiations.

That is an obvious assumption but may not be true. It could be that DD is receiving newish offers or it could be that he has operated by design ( his own ) so far and has planned on moving some of the parts you listed. Maybe he knows what he is doing.

I do recognize that the well is not endlessly deep.

The D-Backs have added Shelby Miller to Greinke in revamping their staff

Diamondbacks To Acquire Shelby Miller

By Steve Adams | December 8, 2015 at 7:16pm CST

The Diamondbacks have agreed to acquire right-hander Shelby Miller from the Braves, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). The deal is pending medical reviews. Center fielder A.J. Pollock is not in the trade, tweets MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.

So far the only piece known to be going to the Braves is Inciarte. It looks like's been a 3 WAR guy lately, but damn, seems like a weak centerpiece.

Just remember, kimmi hates this time of year!

;)

I don't have a twitter account, but do you have any idea how many tweets there were today?

One minute so and so is going to team A. The next minute he's not. All day long.

Drives me crazy.

Yup, I like this trade. The BP is looking much better.

I can see why Seattle fans are pissed.

Seattle better beef up their defense a little. Miley pitches to contact.

Our pen should be one of the best in baseball. As others have noted, Elias could also be a valuable piece out of the pen.

This is for you, Kimmi...

@PeteAbe

Of note: Jason Varitek was in the #RedSox suite as Dombrowski and Farrell spoke to reporters. He’s in the mix quite a bit.

Thanks. This makes me happy. :)

Dansby Swanson is the centerpiece. Not so weak actually.

A 3 WAR outfielder, a first overall pick, another top 50 prospect, plus more coming. The Marlins just got an erection.

The evil empire just got starlin castro. I wonder what they gave up.

Cubs got Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan. Warren can be a starter or be used out of the pen. With Zobrist and Baez, Castro became tradeable for Theo.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

Last offseason drove me nuts. I'm enjoying this one a lot more.
Me too. It would have been great to have landed Miller too. D-Back fans are also having fun adding Greinke and Miller. Yankees are rumored to be going young. After landing Castro, they are rumored to be going after Ozina and Jose Fernandez. That would piss me off.

Arizona is taking quite a beating over how much they gave up for Miller. Keith Law called the cost 'comically high'. A guy at FanGraphs said it was the worst trade in history. I guess it shows the astronomical price of pitching.

A 24 year old starter who can give you 200 innings and pitch to a 3 ERA is a valuable commodity.

Red Sox will not submit a bid to negotiate with Japanese right-hander Kenta Maeda, a source tells WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford. While Maeda at one point looked like a possibly intriguing target for Boston, the team has plenty of mid-rotation options beyond ace David Price and probably won’t seek to add another, Bradford writes. Earlier Tuesday night, Giants GM Bobby Evans told MLBTR’s Zach Links that his team is having internal discussions about Maeda, though John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that a match between the two sides is “unlikely.” Here are more notes on the starting pitching market.
I guess that we will not have to concern ourselves with Maeda.

Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater - remember that one!

Andrew Cashner seems like a prime target for the Red Sox. The Padres are going nowhere in a rough division. Cashner is coming off a mediocre year and hits free agency next year. Decent K/9, GB%, eats innings, and seems likely to be a #3 next year. He gives the Red Sox some time to figure out what they have in Johnson/Owens.

I'd hope the cost would be similar to the cost of Gallardo last year. Who knows what he'll actually cost.

Brewers Acquire Garin Cecchini From Red Sox

By Steve Adams | December 10, 2015 at 10:04am CST

The Red Sox have traded third baseman/outfielder Garin Cecchini to the Brewers in exchange for cash considerations, reports Alex Speier of the Boston Globe (Twitter link). The former top prospect was recently designated for assignment in Boston.

Cecchini, 25 next April, will provide the Brewers with an option at third base or first base, where they’re quite thin on MLB-ready talent. The 2010 fourth-rounder has received 40 plate appearances in Boston over the past two seasons and batted .229/.325/.400, but his bat never really came around in two seasons at the Triple-A level. Viewed as a consensus top 100 prospect heading into the 2014 season, Cecchini has batted just .238/.314/.333 in two seasons at the top minor league level.

Following the 2013 season Baseball America lauded Cecchini for his knowledge of the strike zone and ability to barrel up pitches and hit to the opposite field, projecting that even if his glove would cause him to move to first base or left field, his on-base skills and high averages could make him a big league regular. Last winter, BA wrote that he still had considerable offensive upside even as his defensive question marks grew, but he struggled a great deal in Triple-A this year.

Cash for Cecchini-- probably enough to cover JH's wine bill tonight. Edited by a700hitter

Nah, using it on new headphones for the players.

Just shows how yesterday's top prospect can quickly become tomorrow's roster dump. Trading a player for cash considerations is about as low as you can go.

Nationals, Angels To Swap Yunel Escobar, Trevor Gott

By Steve Adams | December 10, 2015 at 2:56pm CST

2:56pm: The Nationals are also receiving an additional minor leaguer in the trade, tweets Heyman.

2:40pm: MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez reports that right-hander Trevor Gott is heading to the Nationals in the deal (links to Twitter).

2:32pm: The Nationals have agreed to a trade that will send infielder Yunel Escobar to the Angels, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (on Twitter). Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reported not long ago that the two sides were discussing a deal.

The Angels filling a need.

Anyone want to buy low on Puig? He was an all-star just 2 years ago. And despite his dip in numbers, still owns an .850 career ops.

If we can buy Puig on the cheap and he bounces back, then that would allow us to deal a surplus outfielder, whether that's JBJ or Castillo.

Or even if we don't deal any of our outfielders, Puig's bat - if refreshed, could fit well in our DH slot with big papi retiring.
