Peace brother.......let none of us get carried away with anger, snotty retorts or sarcastic posts that belittle our colleagues. Frankly, I thought my post about the lack of hitting was about as mild as I could make it....I merely mentioned what was a fact and didn't say this was a hint of things to come. Remember, I'm the only guy on this board who has gone on record and predicted an AL East title for our team and with that I'm the last person standing who wants to rain criticism and nasty missives at our team.

Well, you can't make a claim like 'Farrell ran a Boy Scout camp last ST', state it as a fact, and expect not to get called on it Fred.

Does it bother me as in do I lose sleep over it? Not a chance.

But as User once said, if you post crap, you're going to be called on it.

Is that crap? Haha it's a simple comment to me. Do you really want to hear crap, come here and listen to our president.

LOL No, I don't really want to hear crap.

So don't post any!

It bothers me because there is no way of substantiating the claim, rather, opinion.

I have no idea how Farrell runs his camps and how it may differ from the way other managers prepare their teams.

I suspect that no one on this board does, either.

The Sox had a lousy season for many reasons in 2014.

I have not heard from any source that a lax camp was one of them.

Right.

Posting an opinion is one thing. But proclaiming your opinion as fact without the ability to substantiate your claim is just asking to be called out.

Well you cannot keep saying the team will right the ship and that Farrell is doing the best job he can as you did incessantly on that other board last year when the team was imploding by the week. Face it Kimmi, you see the glass always as full, never even half full. That was your MO on Sawheads and your MO on STFU and that is your MO here. The fact was that writers, fans, the media and most of the posters on the boards came to the conclusion that our team was NOT either physically or mentally prepared when the 2014 season began, and my eyes didn't lie to me. I saw them play in Boston last year and they looked like s***. I saw them play in Anaheim last year and they looked like s***. I saw them in Oakland and they looked like s***. If they look like s*** and smell like s***, the chances are they are s*** and they played like it. And they never got better. You have never even attempted to say why they looked so miserable last year and you still seem to be in denial. It could be in your DNA that it is impossible to admit a unpleasant truth and it isn't in mine. Whether Farrell ran a boy scout camp last year is beside the point. IT IS MY OPINION and like it or not I'm going to stick to my opinion and the facts back me up. They finished last and lost over91 games. That is not winning baseball.

I never heard this from anyone but you and I drown myself in Red Sox media and fan opinion everyday living where I do.

If you really felt bad, you would have just updated your comment. Not surprising that you didn't go that route though.
LOL!! It was late. It was my last post of the night before I had to travel on business early in the morning. This was my first chance to check back. I didn't want to shut down for the night on a bad note. I give you an apology, but somehow you saw that as a glass half full. Who is the pessimist now. ;) I will change the post. Edited by a700hitter

Well maybe you weren't taking in enough water Spud because it was all over the internet and in the papers last year. I got it on Dirt Dogs time and again. Ever download that site? They have papers all over New England weighing in---Prividence, Hartford, Portland as well as Boston. Even for the sake of argument if they didn't say it your own eyes could see it on the field and read about it in the papers. No team that was properly prepared and coming off a WS Title could play that poorly unless they weren't prepared to play. Going from first to last is not a common thing and doesn't happen very often. In fact, I'm hard pressed to remember when it last occurred.

Saying what happened elsewhere shouldn't bother you or anybody else. What it does do is to expose a pattern of behavior that could explain someone is an apologist for miserable play and is in total denial about what happened and refuses to even admit it. There is no thought police here and there shouldn't be. This is a forum to express one's views and that's what I'm doing.

Then they shouldn't read them, don't you think?

Not sure how this could be an issue.

What happened to our self-appointed censor?

Probably some people are a bit susceptible recently, probably because the offseason has been slow but probably the spring training could help.

Tomorrow we go against the Twins.

What's the point in trying to "expose" other posters. This is the slippery slope where people start getting into fights. Can't we just talk about the Sox without having to belittle anyone who doesn't think the same way as you do?

Even if someone is an apologist, what's the point in shoving it in their face unless you're just trying to start something.

Other boards have no bearing on what happens here. Even from year to year the posters on this board have different beliefs about the Sox. When you keep bringing up old s***, it's not going to have any positive outcome for the board.

Exactly. There is no good whatsoever that can come out of it.

Clay Buchholz made up t-shirts for all the starters that say "I'm the ace" on them. It is hilarious, but I am also glad he is taking up hobbies that involve soft materials like cloth.

I hope he takes up pillow forts and feather collecting next.

LOL!! He may need a profession to fall back on if he pitches like he did in 2014.

In a big situation (bases loaded 2 outs in the 9th inning down by one run), you look down your bench and you have ARod and Papi in their primes available to hit, who do you select to hit? A righty is on the mound, but the lefty with equivalent stuff and stats is in the bullpen for Ortiz.

For Yankee fans, the same situation, but on the bench is Jeter and ARod in their primes, who do you have bat?

For the Sox I would go with Ortiz simply because he has come through so many times.

Not sure what was or is his prime. The lefty match up concerns me some but I have never believed that Ortiz was useless against lefties except when he was struggling with injuries. Of course I could be wrong. This is just my opinion. I'm using my gut, not facts, to support my opinion.

Just for fun I will base the decision on their career numbers with bases loaded and 2 outs:

Ortiz 330/378/659

A-Rod 270/359/574

Jeter 321/407/389

So Ortiz over A-Rod is an obvious pick.

I'd take Jeter over A-Rod because you only need one run and he has a higher OBP. If the Yanks were down more than one run you'd have to consider A-Rod because of the higher SLG.

The interesting thing about Rodriguez is that he hasn't been a choker in pressure situations, but is rather up-and-down depending on the season.

Check out his 2009, where he was a monster in both high leverage situations (100 + OPS over his low leverage numbers) and the postseason. Yet he carries the "choker label", even though he's been mostly successful in high leverage situations and has a respectable .833 OPS in the postseason. This is why the clutch argument is so contrived. It's just not a repeatable skill.
