It was thrilling to watch him pitch. He was in a class by himself. I grew uip watching Seaver pitch for the Mets and I saw Clemens great years with the Red Sox, but each game pitched by Pedro was an event that I eagerly anticipated. The town was buzzing on the days he pitched.

I remember being in a restaurant on the day of a Yankee victory. I was with Yankee fans (ew). There were a couple of meter maids sitting near us. They told the Yankees fans that Pedro would get them tomorrow. Everyone in the town knew when he was pitching. I have never seen a pitcher capture the attention of a whole town like he did.

Yay for Pedro. I love Pedro (in a non-homosexual way, not that there's anything wrong with that). He's my favorite player of all time. I was even a big fan of his when he was a reliever for the Dodgers. I'm not even sure why, I guess he just a had a presence on the mound and I could tell he was going to be great. Obviously as a Red Sox fan, I was thrilled when he was traded to the Sox. In my opinion, the best pitcher of all time in his prime, he just didn't have the longevity of some of the other greats.

A few highlights, which people here will probably already know. A 7 year stretch where he went 118-36 with a 2.20 ERA, 11.3 K/9, and ERA+ of 213!! In 2000, a 1.74 ERA when the second best in the league was 3.70. The 9 inning perfect game in Montreal that wasn't a perfect game because Montreal didn't score until the 10th. The 1-hit, 17 strikeout game against the Yankees where there was only 1 ball hit fair after the 4th inning (12 K, 2 foul outs, 1 line out). Congrats to Pedro, the best on the mound (IMO), and seems like a great guy off the mound too.

91.1 percent of voters elected Pedro Martinez for the hall of fame.

In other news, 8.9 percent of baseball hall of fame voters deserve to be fired.

Pedro is the man. Big congrats from all of us at Talksox.

Here's a pretty neat chart from bRef : http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2015.shtml

Hey, if Babe Ruth can't get 100% no one can.

I'm happy that he got in. I am happy with the other results too, including who was left out.

So I was just perusing the results from last year, and holy s***, how did Armando Benitez make it past the screening committee?

He even got a vote. But there's way worse than that. Jacque Jones also got a vote. Aaron Sele got a vote in 2012. The worst I saw in the 10 or so years I looked at was Walt Weiss getting a vote. These voters are either insane or joking around with their ballot, and either way they should not be allowed to vote.

I was thinking like you were with that 8.9 idiots delight crack......but the fact that Pedro made it with over 90% of the vote is great news indeed. Besides, don't many of us think that about half the writers who vote don't know s*** from shinola? That possibly being true, at least we could say that there was some real clear thinking on the vote today. I'm pumped.

Delgado didn't even get enough to stay on the ballot. The guy hit 473HR and had a career OPS over .900. Seriously, how did he fall off the ballot?

Hmm. That is really odd.

In 1967 when Yaz won the Triple Crown and carried the Red Sox from 9th place to the World Series for rthe first time in 21 years, he missed being a unanimous MVP, because 1 writer voted for Cesar Tovar. I think he voted for Tovar because he played every position in 1 game. If he had done that while chewing gum, he might have gotten more votes.

One magical season. Don't get me going. I will never forget it and to this day I have not really seen anyone do what he did for a complete season. Not casting all votes for him that season could be likened to casting 1 vote against Washington for President.

Special shoutout to that meatball Tommy Lasorda for letting Pedro go to that french speaking wasteland which could afford high caliber players like Pedro!

1. Hall did a lousy job as usual - but the four they got in deserved to be in. Ballot was stacked and there were many more that deserved nods.

2. The three titles are the apex of my fandom obviously. But the chance to watch people do something at a truly artful level is also why I watch sports. Pedro may not be the best pitcher of my lifetime (when you consider longevity as well as peak). But his best was far and away the best I've ever seen. He was legitimately appointment viewing in a way that no other pitcher of my time (I go back to the mid-80s) was. Clemens had the power - and was awesome, I am not going to lie. But the fastball, curve, change combo Pedro had was something special. His 17 K game at Yankee Stadium and his 6 innings against Cleveland in 1999 will be forever.

3. Hope everyone had a happy holiday - whatever applies or doesn't.

I never viewed him as a HOFer when he played. Without looking at his stats, my recollection is that he was never a dominant force like, say, Jim Rice was, although he had a ton of seasons with 30+ HR's. Maybe because his best seasons were in Toronto. He undoubtedly had power but seems to be more of a compiler due to playing 17 seasons....

Thank you Pedro...and Duquette.

Yup. I always harp on this , I guess.

Duquette rarely gets enough credit for helping the Sox move into the 20th Century.

Pedro was a huge get for him. He liked him from his days in L.A. and traded for him twice. Good eye.

But we did lose Carl Pavano!!!!!!

Well I did refer in a previous post to the belief that some of the writers don't know the game to save their asses. I'm just glad Pedro got over 90% on the writers ballot. But that 1967 vote was really a weird one Ted. Yaz deserved a unanimous vote that season.

My all time favorite Red Sox. Good stuff!

He's the reason I became a Red Sox fan.

Come to think of it, that could have been the reason I came aboard in 2000. I saw him pitch a seven inning two hitter against the Royals in a 9-0 Red Sox romp and left Fenway a Red Sox fan from that point on, though truth be told I think the ballpark might have had as much to do with that epiphany as did Pedey's gem that day, August 19th.

Hope you did too my friend. Nice to put that 2014 season behind us and look forward and not backward. Just give the Red Sox a solid No. 1 guy in the rotation and we should be able to hold our own with anyone in the league, barring some unforeseen circumstances.

In the past you've had writers claim to have forgotten to vote for someone - that's grounds for revoking their privileges. But basically 90% on first ballot is all you can ask for. No one should complain about the ones that didn't vote.
