why cant the OF be consisted of Betts, Castillo, and Cespedes? Unless you guys are looking to reserve a spot for Nava, Glassman Vic or Craig...

Victorino is slated to make $13 million in 2015. He will be in the OF if healthy. Odd man out will be Nava. Betts will be moved to 3rd is my guess. I don't know what happens to Craig.

I suspect Craig is a stiff.

Or maybe that bad foot is really why he has lost his swing and not recovered it.

I say dump him in a trade for pitching.

Victorino is a piece of broken glass, and with 1 year left, they should bite the bullet and deal him. I don't think Victorino has anything left. He has a lot of different chronic injuries, hamstrings, back, and who knows what else is awaiting.

Who will want him for $13 million? Are you proposing that they eat most of his salary --- around say $10 million?

Victorino is the kind of player who helps a team win in many different ways. He steals bases, has plenty of outfield range, has a good arm, gets on base, has a bunch of extra base hits. Until this year, he has averaged 130-140 games a season. He also has world series rings from two different teams.

Honestly, I want him back next year. If he's not healthy enough to play every day, he'd be an incredible bench player. Need a pinch runner? Throw him in. Need a platoon option with a career .875 OPS split against lefties? Let him start. Need a defensive replacement? Absolutely.

I agree. The guy is a winner. He was key to the 2013 success and his absence was a big reason for the 2014 flop. I want him back.

Cespedes is a FA after 2015. Rusney is gonna get his shot, but is far from a sure thing. RF will be split between two injury prone guys on the downside of their careers. You have a kid at SS who has underperformed. You have a kid at 3b who is likely headed for the DFA pile. You have a backup catcher starting because of lack of depth at the big league level. You have the capability to have Betts and Holt be akin to what the Yankees are doing with Prado. Find a way to get each into 130 or so games next yr without either of them holding down a regular spot in the field

One hit in four at-bats. He only saw 11 pitches.

That makes him one of the top hitters on the team.

Oh but he's aggressive!!!! Ignore that he swings at first pitches and grounds out to the infield. He's ripped! He is raw! He is twitch! Lol!

I suppose that I should give the guy a chance. It's not like I have a choice! I remain skeptical. if any team can get it wrong in pursuit of an international free agent this year it has to be the Sox.

Well we won't have to worry about that tonight guys because "Beast" Bradley is back in the lineup. I guess having your sister sleeping with the manager has its advantages and it has to be something like that because Jackie has as much right to be in a Major League lineup as my five year old grandson does.

I know we're talking small sample size but Rusney Castillo has been raking for us.

http://nesn.com/2014/09/red-sox-notes-rusney-castillo-already-looking-like-five-tool-threat/

.333 batting average (11 for 33), 2 HRs, 6 rbis, 3 steals, and a .934 OPS.

I guess the Ben Cherington and the Red Sox aren't idiots after all. This move might work out for us. ;-)

in 36 plate appearances he matched the HR power output of Middlestinks in 234 plate appearances and he hit more Home Runs than Automatic Out Jr in 423 plate appearances. Those 2 bums combined for 3 homers in 657 PAs and they both hit under .200 with OPS around .530. That would kill any teams' offense. Neither of them will be around Fenway next season. They both exhausted their many chances.

Hey guys, our friend Big Papi seemed to be quite concerned when Castillo got off to a slow start and wasn't making solid content but I think he may feel better now. I know I do. He seems to have gotten his swing down and I want to see him get some work down in the Caribbean this off season. Remember, he hadn't played in almost two years and he had to have some rust in his swing and game. He came on very well and at least that gives us some hope for next season.....and don't we all need some of that. Still, we need those two starting pitchers and that is going to cost us money which Prune Face might not want to spend, or players which Cherington might not want to give up. Well if we want to finish with a better record that the disaster that was this year, it will have to be one or the other because this team as presently constituted on the mound isn't going to get it done.

Seems like he still needs to improve and make some adjustments in his bat.

He is making more than Puig, isn't he? is he a 5 tool player like Puig?

Since the emminent new relationships between CUBA-USA, a lot of more cuban players will go to U.S.. In Cuba baseball is a religion.

There has been talk of a Cuban expansion team.

Castillo has my absolute support as of right now. If Alex Cora gives him that kind of endorsement, he has to have some special qualities. Alex Cora was and is a team first kind of guy. He did his job as well as he could. Team player!

Some of these guys come over and dominate. Others fall on their face. Castillo has talent galore, we need to see what he can become in Boston before making any assumptions. He could be the next Puig or Jackie Bradley. Who knows.
