What it comes down to is would you rather have WMB or Drew. At this point, Drew is a much better option.

I like that Brock is playing a little 1b. Also nice that Lou Merloni is pushing my idea of Brock in LF. Ride the hot hand. WMB hasn't been a viable option since his multi homer game at Toronto last April.

Nothing wrong with Holt, I'm glad he's here, but if you have Drew, you play Drew. I'm more interested in how they see Cecchini. He's the guy who can block Drew. If Cecchini hits the cover off the ball the way I expect him to, then you have to sit one of Pedroia, bogaerts, or Cecchini to play Drew, and THAT may not happen.

Cecchini is a wait til next year guy.

All of this. He's a good athlete, per scouting reports. He could play the OF.

No one on here is advocating for Holt to play over Drew. They just want him to be the first guy off the bench.

Actually, you're dead wrong. If he's referring to some of the other threads (which is what i think he's doing) then that's exactly what Fred et al are saying.

But but but...we won a ring with Stephen Drew.

I don't get the infatuation with this guy. He has a pretty decent glove at short, that's about it. He's just an average short stop. He is atrocious against LHP and Ks twice as much as he walks.

Drew is not a fantastic player in any one area.

Drew is a player who can do OK at every single thing you want of a SS.

That package is interesting despite the fact that nothing wows you -- IF you know what you're looking at when you watch a baseball game.

He said it in this thread too.

Holt has shown he can hit, he has also shown he can hit lefthanders and that says something since he's a left hand hitter himself. Drew, 2013.....196 against lefthanders. Drew must NOT play against southpaws and it is looking more and more like he shouldn't even be on the team

Sorry. I wasn't reading his posts.

You know what's important to winning ballgames? Defense. You know what team has had a atrocious defense so far? The Red Sox. Put two and two together.....

With that vague statement, I am glad to know this team will be riding on the glove of Drew.

In all honesty though, that glove was very helpful all of last year, especially in the playoffs.

They are also saying Brock at 1b this week while Napoli is out. You have to keep the hot bat in the lineup. LF may not be a bad idea either.

You put Holt in LF.

That is exactly what Farrell is doing tomorrow night. Holt will be in LF and Napoli will be back at 1B. Farrell also said Nava will be playing the next 4 out of 5 games. We desperately need Victorino back and to stay healthy. Also, another small note, I would prefer if Pedroia bats second and Bogaerts moves to third in the order. Not a huge change, but Bogaerts has been our best hitter as of late and Pedroia has been second in the order for most of his career.

With Victorino starting rehab by late next week, we really need to start turning it up a notch soon. We need to stay healthy. Big Papi and Pedroia need to find their stroke. I am wondering if Pedroia is still hurt. We can't keep being this inconsistent. We need to go on another hot streak and end this losing streak BS.

I agree my friend but it is hard to feel over-confident when you're going to face Scherzer tonight in the first place......and it becomes even more of a chore when you have Ross, Drew and Bradley hitting in the seventh, eighth and ninth holes.

He could become a great bench player if he played the outfield. He looks like he belongs at the plate and the more positions he can play the better for him and the Sox. Super utility guy!

If Holt can pick up the OF that would be great. He could turn out to be a very valuable super utility man. Every team needs a guy like that. He seems like he has the right attitude to take in that role as well. Not everyone can handle that type of role.

I ask why everyone is convinced that Holt's ceiling is just a utility player.

What if he stays healthy and can his well enough to stay in the lineup? Why can't he be an everyday player?

He may plummet to the Mendoza line but how come everyone is so sure that he won't keep hitting? So many people are in a hurry to see Betts and Ceccini. But Holt is here, now, and he is producing.

Still not saying we should write him off, far from it but it's becoming increasingly clear that Drew isn't ready to hit in the majors again. Other than the fact that he was using up a roster spot there really isn't much claim that he should be in Boston at this stage.

One for 14 plus looking s***** at the plate doing it. Totally agree with you. Drew will not hit for at least a month and maybe longer. As for Holt, the hell with this super utility BS. He needs to be in the lineup every game.....just as I've been saying for the past few weeks. And as for Drew, he reminds me of that movie The Manchurian Candidate, that guy named Raymond I think. A mole deposited into the very bowels of the edifice designed to destroy from within. OK, I got that from Chad Finn but it was pretty accurate in my opinion. At this stage Drew should not be in Boston. Then again, I've all along he should never have been in Boston this year.

He has looked pretty good in the OF. Moving forward Holt should be in the 2015 plans for the Sox. He would be a great super utility guy!

If all of you are saying that utility means a substitute I am down on that completely. Brock Holt has proven that he is a Major League player, and keep in mind that when in the Pittsburgh organization he led the International League in hitting, a league that usually doesn't favor hitters. Holt has show he can play center, the other outfield positions and most of the infield ones as well. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he could play shortstop in a pinch. As far as the comparisons with Ciricaco, Holt is only 26 and had a good minor league record. From what I knew about Pedro, his minor league years were average at best and proved that be being a flash in the pan even though I loved the way he pummeled the Yankees.

Are there really people arguing that a .120 hitter should be in the lineup rather than a .320 hitter? (Or did John Farrel somehow set up multiple Talk Sox accounts).

It's like you people don't understand that Drew, Bogaerts and Holt can all play at the same time. Holt is a good athlete, he could move to LF. The Drew hate is retarded.

Would you like to recant your position on Stephen Drew now?

Official Stats:

Stephen Drew 2014 .136 BA .167 OBP .247 SLG .414 OPS

Official Stats:

Brock Holt 2014 .311 BA .359 OBP .425 SLG .784 OPS

I don't see a pumpkin here. And 250 at bats is a significant enough sample size to say that Brock Holt has earned himself a regular spot in the starting lineup until he shows otherwise.

VJ--User Name has pulled one of his disappearing act that he has become infamous for. Let him make some ridiculous comment in criticizing someone that comes back t bite him on his tush and he off to Zanzibar. He will return when the heats cools off, but remind him of it when he returns. He'll have some lame excuse for you. I wish I could be the one to call him out on that but I've saved myself the misery of dealing with the guy buy putting him and one other person on ignore, and believe me I feel like a new man not having to deal with those two.
