How about Kemp at 1B ... he might stay healthy there .... guy can hit. If it only cost the Sox 15M per maybe that is what they are thinking.

Kemp is too good an athlete to waste away at 1B. Besides, that would seriously hamper his value.

15M per is not too much to pay for a top hitting 1B ... the other advantage with Kemp is that he can also play OF including center. Not nearly as well as Ells but none the less. What do you think UN? How much better can Kemp's hitting be if JBJ handles CF and Kemp only has to deal with playing 1B ... his offensive numbers can go really high.

If Kemp came, Gomes/CarpNava would be at 1b not Kemp.

Good Point MVP ... playing left will be less strenuous than playing CF but my point is that Kemp at 1B can help keep him healthy.

Not a worthwhile gamble for the money/prospects he'd cost imo.

There is the rub ... we have no idea what the Dodgers would want in return nor how much of Kemp's contract they are willing to subsidize. The Dodgers need to deal with Hanley and Kershaw going forward so a 15M Salary dump for the next 7 years might be a good play especially since they proved that they can win without him. Kemp could also land in Seattle.

You can reasonably expect the subsidy to be no more than 5 million, and the prospect cost to be around three prospects (with two of them being top-100). Don't think it's worth it for any team.

What if they are willing to take Dempster, Webster and that 2nd baseman we have at AA ... what is his name Watts?

Mookie Betts, and no thanks. (Not that they'd take that package anyway). It's just that with his injury history, he's just not worth the gamble.

Yeah ... I suppose you are right. ok ... Mookie Betts ... have to love that name Mookie.

Don't want Kemp unless Dodgers are eating half his contract. If we wanted a pricey outfielder, we'd just resign Ellsbury because we know he already fits our offense.

If you want to talk about acquiring a power hitter, why not Jose Bautista? I believe his contract runs out in 2015. Maybe the Jays would be open to trading him a little early in exchange for some young prospects. His contract is quite reasonable as well all things considering.

Why not just go after Bautista in 2015 instead of giving up our top prospects. We need to take a year off so we can dominate the following 6-7 years. Not saying that we cannot win with what we have in 2014 ... we can.

I am hoping the Sox can buy low on Cincinnati catcher Ryan Hanigan. The guy is from Andover and a well kept secret coming off an injury filled season. Forget the hype for Yadier Molina, this guy is the best defensive catcher in baseball. Plus, outside of last season when he was hurt, he has been a decent offensive catcher.

Hanigan and Ross would give the Sox a great catching combo while Christian Vazquez develops. Cincinnati needs to move Hanigan to give former top prospect Mesoraco a chance to develop so he should not cost much in the way of prospects.

With McCann signed for big bucks by the Yanks, it figures to be either Hanigan or Salty. I would hope it's Hanigan. Wonder what James take is on this.

I am hoping that Salty signs with another team. I would rather let the youngsters on the farm compete for the job along with Ross with the hopes that one of the them will rise to the occasion and be MLB ready by 2015. That is only one fan's take on this. If you want to bring in Hanigan to replace Ross that is fine with me also.

With Hanigan's defense, framing abilities, and career OBP, I assume he would point in his direction.

Btw, Hanigan is from Andover, Massachusetts.

So, I know this sounds crazy but I swear on my life this happened.

Last night I was driving in Beacon Hill (Boston neighborhood) and I saw a man trying to hail a cab. Upon further look, it was Larry Lucchino. I rolled down my window and yelled 'Larry! You need a ride??' To which he responded 'yeah can you just take me to Fenway? I've been out here forever'

So I take him to Fenway, and on the way, he tells me that the Yanks just signed McCann (this was about 1,5 hours before it broke). I asked him who the Sox were going to get to catch next year and he said they are in on Hannigan.

Talked to him for quite a bit, about 15 min. Nice guy, cool that he disclosed some stuff to me.

How's that for a source User Name? :)

Is this for real? It just surprises me that he would leak information to you that isn't being leaked to the press. That being said, Hannigan seems to make sense in a lot of ways.

So does this mean they're going to trade for Stanton?

Swear to you that's what he said. I was surprised he was so candid as well. The McCann signing hadn't even been discussed at all from what I saw then like 1.5 hours later it broke

I posted some framing info somewhere here based on a SOSH analysis. Hanigan, Ross and McCann came out ahead of Salty and Lav. McCann has slipped a bit recently. Good chance they're after Hanigan, who was also a decent hitter before injuries last year.

Hell of a scoop if true. Hope he gave you a free box ticket.

Lucchino has often not been shy about disclosing stuff about the team's plans. In the offseason before 2011, well before we did the AGon and Crawford deals, he issued one of his State of the Sox statements in which he assured fans that the team was hoping to make two major acquisitions, one by free agency and one by trade.

I believe that's was Werner who made those statements, no?

There's what you'll tell the press, there's what you'll tell your boss, and then there's what you'll tell to the guy doing you a favor.

Can someone explain to me how acquiring Hannigan translates to going after Stanton? I must be missing something.
