Because internet commenters are scumbags.

I think they're arguing about Remy wanting custody of the little girl, not about his return to the booth.

BTW, I will not sit here and say that I could not live with a .680 OPS vacuum cleaner at SS with the rest of our lineup. Iglesias would have been fine to me. But he's blocking a guy who has all of the markers of being "special" - yes, I know nothing is certain - and guys like that make guys like Iglesias trade bait, full stop.

His defense was garbage when it mattered the most in the post season.

For shame! Grandparents should never be allowed visitation rights (the real goal here)!

I will avoid the discussion of "clutchiness" or the correlation between errors and defense - same series he made a catch that literally three or four people alive could make. Since it's a short series - the mistakes are magnified, but in defense there is that "play you should have made" vs "getting to a ball nobody else gets to". Jeter can keep his errors low since ground balls zoom past him so regularly for basehits for example.

No way for the optics to look good, but the girl needs people to care for her. It is good he threw his hat in the ring, and if it works out it works out.

Remy - 0/3 raising children. Should not be allowed to harm a fourth.

Yup.

My point all along is that we are still winning the WS with Iggy at SS and Drew at bench in POs. In a retrospective point of view I see Iglesias hitting easily above .600 (In RS uniform, we'll never know though) and with his all star glove would have been a better option than Drew in 2013 POs.

On the other hand, would I have wanted him back in 2014? tough question, specially when you see all those question marks on WM. Hell, he had a .735 OPS season, IMO his upside at O is higher, probably .750, IDK. Also he could have been used as trade chip at some point for SP, IDK. If this guy is entering at his prime an turns into reality (.750, all star D), this move will be a steal for DET. As I said, give him a couple of full seasons and We'll see.

Iglesias at short and Xander at third? I wouldve liked to see if that panned out.

I just don't understand why people could give Remy so much s*** about the whole situation. He raised a steroid-induced scumbag, but that son probably had more opportunities in early life than most of us -- including a job at fenway park-- and he made his own decisions.

I'm afraid ignorance can sometimes run pretty deep Pal. I remember hearing and reading that you never put a father's sins on the backs of his children. Well I think the reverse is true. He tried his best and his son turned sour. It wasn't Jerry who induced him to become a druggie and maybe a murderer. Those people giving Remy all this hatred should take a chill pill and then take a good look in the mirror, and for what it's worth I'm elated that Jerry is back with Don Orsillo to do the Red Sox games on TV. I think they work very well together when I see them on my computer screen and they help make the games enjoyable. They're not sickening homers like Hawk Harrelsond of the other Sox but in their own way you can tell they live and die with the Red Sox.

The team needed Peavy - more to get through the marathon than the postseason per se ... and he cost them something meaningful. But Iglesias was a fair price for 2 years of a mid rotation starter. Dreams of Middlebrooks-Bogaerts-Iglesias sound good, but really there are not that many at-bats to go around ... three youngsters with starting ability means somebody is being dealt. So as it turns out - that happened, just a year early.

Are you saying that parents don't have a significant impact on the lives of their children?

.750 OPS? Iglesias would have to develop some power for that to happen.

yeah, all my point was aside the Peavy factor.

…and/or his walk rate as well.

The point CAN'T BE MADE without the Peavy factor, since that's the guy Iglesias was traded for. Also, it would take a miracle for Iggy to put up a .750 OPS with that weak walk rate and power. He's still a very valuable player based on D alone though.

Why not? it was a Drew vs Iggy at 2013 POs discussion .

well I'm not sure about that, let's give him a full season first and we'll see.

if what you are saying turns into a reality, IMO his departure will be called as a mistake even with XB around.

Um, this was the original post. It ignores (a) Peavy, (B) that Iggy wouldn't have played in the WS ahead of Drew, © not one talent scout believes Iggy is better than XB, (d) the aftermath of the trade included a WS ring, (e) how unsustainable Iggy's BABIP was, (f) that Detroit gave up a top prospect of their own and (g) that Iggy's defense was subpar on routine plays and it's ignored because of the ESPN highlight plays (he flat out sucked at 3b).

Yeah, that was your first post about Iggy aside from saying "hope Vasquez doesn't turn into Iggy 2.0."

Well, Drew v Iggy in the 2013 playoffs is confusing their ABILITY to hit with whether they actually hit or not ... Drew's ability far, FAR outstrips Iglesias offensively, well more than the defensive gap. Alas, he had a rough postseason. At the same time, Iglesias pulled a .231/.286/.231 in the postseason while Drew did .111/.140/.204. Both lines were pretty ghastly, certainly close enough to say both sucked it pretty hard at the plate.

Theres no doubt in my mind that we made the right decision because of Peavey and winning the WS but I would like to see the alternate reality with Iglesias still here because his offense may improve and he may turn into a great base stealing threat. We'll see with Detroit.

Also any fans of Lance Berkman who announced his retirement? He's underrated.

I don't have much opinion on him, except he was one of the few guys I liked watching in the abysmal 2005 World Series.

Terrific hitter in his Houston prime. St Louis he had a fascinating revival, and he played a principal role in what probably goes down as the current game which is used as "the greatest game since ____". (the Texas-Saint Louis Game 6)

I'm saying some times no matter what parents do their kids turn out rotten. That's what happened with Jerry's son Jared. Now if you have some proof that Remy and his wife were lousy parents and were responsible for their son's downfall please enlighten me. If you don't I'd like to give Jerry and his wife the benefit of the doubt instead of hurling what may be false and scurrilous accusations against them.
