Something has to be nagging Ells. Makes absolutely no sense not to put him in here if you're making a defensive substitution.

He's fine, Farrell said routine day off. Might be pushed after that long Sunday game.

Iggy has got to bend his knees and get the bat on the same plane with the baseball. He is not going to get pitches above the belt line every at bat and even when he does...who cares....he does not have HR power. Those usually end up fly ball....OUTS. An uppercut swing at pitches at or above the belt does Iggy little good.

He continually either takes pitches below the belt line in the zone or swings over them which is causing him to hit more of those ground ball outs again. Pedey wants Iggy's stance to be upright in the box but Pedey is about the best there is at bending his knees to get the bat on plane for the low strike. Iggy needs to do the same or at least do some of the same.

Iggy isn't enough of a power hitter to be playing 3B. He should be playing SS, where he would have more value for his defense.

I understand he wants to give him a day off but 2 innings in the OF is pretty much a night off anyway.

Bill Mueller wasn't a power hitter. He was pretty damn good at third. Wade Boggs had no power and he was ok.

He must have been joking. This is not exactly a "routine" series. I would guess the medical staff has him on a rest regimen much like Crawford last year, who got a day off in the middle of a Yankee series at Yankee stadium. Not the managers call? Pretty nutty to be resting Ellsbury against RHP in an important series.

The all star break couldn't have come at a better time for Taz.

It seems his velocity and location are returning. At this point from last year to the end of the season, he was untouchable.

Jacoby Ellsbury has a .594 career OPS with a .250 OBP and only one well-hit ball against Carmona/Hernandez over 16 AB's in his career. He has a hard time against Carmona and played that extra innings game on Sunday. You don't know what you're talking about.

*waits for UN? to make sarcastic "Gomes sucks" comment*

I was about to, but was busy responding to SoxSport's nonsense, and MVP beat me to it.
