Lester's line looks pretty damn good so far. It'd be a huge win if he could get himself together and start pitching to his ability down the stretch.

Of Lester's 6 punchouts, 4 on fastballs, 2 on curves. Really seems to have moved away from the cutter as his go-to two-strike offering.

Encouraging.

In fact the swings the Rays RH hitters are taking suggest they are positive they are going to get that cutter but are getting that FB off the outer edge instead. Have to swing at it but with those swings, can't hit it with a boat oar.

iglesias can't be far off from a demotion. Take the few dozen infield hits and slice it by half, he's hitting about .280, slice by half again and he's barely over the Mendoza line.

You're a good poster, but you have got to stop thinking of all the negatives of players. It gets kind of annoying, especially since the players you bash don't deserve it.

I don't think he's incorrect on Iglesias. While I don't believe he's close to being demoted, the facts stand that his BA is greatly inflated by an unsustainable number of infield hits. Iggy has been slumping big time the past month or so and he'll need to pick it up if he's going to stay in the lineup every day.

Yeah but the overall analysis is a conglomerate of arbitrary ********. "Slash this and slash that" with no sort of rhyme or reason, just to whine.

Agreed. I think he could have made his point in a much better manner, but it still stands.

I never said he was wrong. Many people, including myself, did not think Iglesias would be hitting this good. Whether or not he is lucky, who cares? I don't see how someone can't appreciate production from a player on his/her favorite team.

I have an irrational hatred towards Yuniel Escobar.

With all the rational reasons to hate him, that's a bit surprising. To each his own.

The simple answer to this question is the FO cares. If a guy's success is unsustainable the FO needs to have a plan in place for when the inevitable regression happens. That's just the reality of baseball today with advanced stats so easily available. I don't think it's that fans aren't appreciating the production when it's happening, it's that many fans realize the success isn't exactly sustainable due to how it is occurring.

Warning track power.

And dduncan, everyone knows Iglesias' current offensive success is unsustainable, given his BABIP and IFH%. However, it's easy to appreciate the improvement in his plate discipline and line drive rate which suggests an overall improvement in his offensive approach. With his lights-out D, that certainly denotes no need for him to be f***ing ticketed to AAA based on some arbitrary idea. If anything, even in his slump, he's still outproducing Drew, and should be given the SS position promptly.

I'd rather see Bogaerts get a shot than Holt. Hopefully the Sox can strike lightning with him like the O's did with Machado last year.

Ok but until it happens, can we appreciate the production we're getting? Station13 is a good poster. I don't want him to be one of those posters that no matter how good we're doing, they seek ONLY the negative things. He's free to do whatever he wants, I just wanted to point it out. If he has a problem with anything I have said, he can reply to my message instead of you. Anyways, this issue is not worth discussing and we should get back on topic.

I agree completely. Drew should be relegated to bench duty at this point with Middlebrooks and Bogaerts given the chance to battle it out for the 3rd base position. Having Iggy at 3rd is a waste of his range.

Iggy has got to bend his knees and get the bat on the same plane with the baseball. He is not going to get pitches above the belt line every at bat and even when he does...who cares....he does not have HR power. Those usually end up fly ball....OUTS. An uppercut swing at pitches at or above the belt does Iggy little good.

He continually either takes pitches below the belt line in the zone or swings over them which is causing him to hit more of those ground ball outs again. Pedey wants Iggy's stance to be upright in the box but Pedey is about the best there is at bending his knees to get the bat on plane for the low strike. Iggy needs to do the same or at least do some of the same.

Iglesias has seen his numbers go down over the last few games against very good pitchers, including Moore, Sabathia, Kuroda, Pettite, Colon, and Griffin. I don't see him being an offensive force, but I think he has proven that he'll be a perfectly suitable #9 hitter for this team.

This is a decent start from Lester. He was not throwing a bunch of wasted cutters, instead uses his above average fastball for strikeouts. He need more 1st pitch strikes, it would let him go 1+ more in this game.
