Really good start for Lester. Crossed Madden up completely. I would bet anything Madden had the Rays hitters all geared up for the two strike cutter that rarely came the way they were swinging. Not sure he threw more than a couple with two strikes. What happened Joe....outsmart yourself did ya'!

Papelbon lovers, are you still alive? Are you going to bump a thread? Anything?

Wait until the next blown save and they'll come out like rats on garbage night in Bay Ridge.

That don't mean squat. What matters is who's getting it done right now. Koji's dominating, and Papelbon is dragging his ass through saves.

Papelbon would not good so good in the AL in the next 3 year if his K and stuff declines the way it has this season.

Koji>Papelbon. Folks don't have 30 extra minutes to watch stupid stares.

Watch out people! Someone here actually has a life!

It's all about "this year" right? Then Uehara is better.

I was joking with that comment. Koji is definitely better right now and I hope he keeps it up. But it's his 10th save as a Red Sox.

I guess Papelbon has turned into one of these polarizing things where you're on one side or the other with no middle ground.

I wonder if we needed Uehara in a 6-2 ballgame, but I'm happy with a division win nonetheless. I'm amazed how Tazawa/Uehara are two of the only relievers that haven't been injured this year.

$13 million gets you this: 2-0 record, 2.27 ERA, 20 saves, 5 blown saves

$4,250,000 gets you this: 2-0 record, 1.59 ERA, 9 saves, 3 blown saves(named closer June 21)

No idea who these guys are. Based on those stats, who would you guys pick? We have a boob as a GM, so I'd like to hear it from the couch GM on talksox. :)

Stats are the tools of Babylon. The most important part of being a closer is having great entrance music. That's why Foulke was so dominant...

Well, we are talking about now. Go ahead and bump a thread and explain how much better Papelbon is. Don't worry, I'll wait right here/

He was joking.

Uehara was a great signing. But to be fair, Ben also acquired Bailey and Hanrahan and paid them a pretty good chunk of change for nothing.

Well you let me know when you find a foolproof method to forecast injuries, at least in Hanrahan's case. Because Bailey (who was acquired last year) was a walking injury long before they traded for him.

I think Hanrahan had some warning signs too. Anyway this is all just quibbling. I think Cherington did an outstanding job this offseason.
