In your guys opinion, where would you rank the current red sox relievers, excluding joel hanrahan and including andrew bailey, from best to worst?( you can also include de la torre, even though hes only pitched like 2 innings).

The reliever's what?

What I mean was out of all of the red sox pitchers in the pen excluding joel hanrahan and including bailey, rank them from best to worst.

That's a little hard to do without the influence of stats. They're all human, so they're inconsistent. For example, Mortensen was pretty solid until last night. He's not going to drop in a ranking because of one bad night. With all due respect, it seems pointless to rank them based on personal opinion.

Very true. But, in your opinion, rank them by the potential you percieve them to have.

Tazawa

Bailey

Uehara

Miller

Breslow

Wilson

Mortensen

I like Bailey to avoid the DL the rest of the season.

Tazawa just give the team more. Multiple innings and durability.

That part is a joke, right?

Mortensen over Miller, and both over Wilson?

I could see Miller over Wilson, but Wilson isn't too bad

Mortensen has the ability to go multiple innings, and he's more consistent than the hit-or-miss Miller, as good as he's looked lately. If it wasn't for his last couple appearances, you wouldn't even think he belonged on the list. Let's be consistent here.

As for Wilson, he's been extremely lucky. His 1.39 WHIP screams correction. If it keeps coming down and he remains consistent, then he can leap up the list.

Where would De La Rosa fit into the rankings? I'd rank him 4th best.

Rubby is in AA still trying to refine his command. He ranks somewhere ahead of Daniel Bard.

he's got huge potential, but he has a fair road to travel down before he can get there. And I still think he may wind up joining the rotation in a year and being kept in the minors until he's ready to start games.

He's actually in AAA and has been starting games this whole year. His pitch count is being built up and has been around ~70 pitches his last three starts.

He has a 18 inning scoreless streak going so have to think he's definitely ready as a reliever. Though I don't see the team going in that direction and will probably have him starting games most of the year in AAA.

I would put Bailey 4th. He has proven a thing yet as a Red Sox. Too much DL time.

Tazawa, Uehara have been excellent--1,2. Breslow very good--3. The rest of the BP sucks.

You cannot be this dumb.

Good bullpens are ones where every member has a role and everyone fills their role effectively. When both Hanrahan and Bailey were hurt the pen struggled because everyone was move from their more effective roles. Tazawa in his first save chance blew it giving up a HR. Your bullpen is only as good as your weak parts.

... and the starters need to go deep enough into games so the good bullpen guys don't get gassed and the weak links don't get exposed.

Good point. The need for starters to consistently go deep into games also is key for a good bullpen. We have seen what happens to a bullpen that is over used early in the season.
