Everyone shut up. It's pretty easy to disagree about baseball without acting like *******s. When someone questions your fandom or something else, it's possible to reply without resorting to a two-paragraph block of profanity. Everyone just stop, because you're all starting to annoy me. Talk about baseball, not each other.
It should always be about baseball.

Got it. I do not necessarily agree however that until a player has played for the Red Sox one cannot form a reasonable opinion about the wisdom of acquiring a player as long as there is some logic and statistics to back up that opinion. The acquisition of Carl Crawford is an example of this. Many people did not think he was a good match for the team and felt that his career OPS of .781 with the Rays was not worth the money he was to be paid in Boston and that that money was better spend elsewhere. Crawford had not played a single inning for the team but reasonable opinions about him abounded. The same can be said of Victorino and Dempster.

Crawford though, got a mega-contract although he had some glaring holes in his game. So i don't think the CC-Victorino/Dempster comparison applies. I think a more fitting comparison would be Victorino-Cameron, but even there you see the glaring problems in one (age) that the other one doesn't have.

My point is you were constantly putting him down, saying he wasn't a major leaguer and that'd he'd be pumping gas in the next few years.

You called out SCM33 out of the blue when I don't recall him even posting much during the off season let alone saying Nava stinks like you constantly did.

Yeah, Ive been pretty hard on him......and 40 AB's has not changed that.

No it would be premature to conclude anything about Nava right now. He's off to a good start, but he was last year too and fizzled out -- whether he did it because of skill or health is somewhat beside the point, since there's no reason either one wouldn' rear its ugly head this year too.

Let's see where he is at the break.

He's just supposed to be a bench guy (possibly a platoon guy). If he gets cold, he'll go back to the bench until he is needed again. He's done way more than anyone could have expected thus far. He can never be faulted for lack of effort. He gives his all.

Aceves and Steven Wright giving up 13 runs to the A's on a rainy tuesday night. Never thought that i would be wishing on Lackey and Morales to get back off the DL but im at that point now. Never thought those words come out of my mouth. Aceves is fine in the middle or long relief but im just not confrontable with him in a starting role, and as far a steven wright goes never been a fan of a knuckler, i appreciate what Wake done for us but that ship has sailed in my opinion.

Anyway, Bard is called up (40 man issues) and Wright is sent down. Aceves is gone when Lackey comes back. Who goes when Morales and Breslow come back? Miller and Wilson?

I would bet that unless he does something to support his continuing with the big club that Bard will go back down again for one. The only reason he is coming up now is because there are no other arms down there more trustworthy than his. That is a far cry from saying he is trustworthy. The fact that they brought Wright here first, should be a sign regarding the trustworthiness of Bard. Wright had not shown anybody anything that suggested he could pitch up here to this point. So the Wright "experiment" fails but we need somebody to pitch some innings. Well, lets dust off Bard's old uni. But unless Bard shows something Miller is at this point a better option and so is Wilson.

According to Boston.com, Aceves is blaming everyone and everything other than himself for last night's debacle. Tough guys stand up and take the heat. Aceves is not a tough guy, just a psycho.

I just read the piece at Boston.com. When Aceves was asked about having not gotten over to cover first on the Napoli play, he responded with "that is just one play". So a pitcher does not cover 1st on a play to the right side and "that is just one play"???

Farrell made the same comment I made during the game itself. The "focus" did not appear to be there.

When Ace gets even a little irritated his focus is just gone....enter botched plays, balks, walks and meatball pitches.

Cross me off the list of Aceves supporters. He smells like toast.

following Becketts footsteps seems like, instead of being angry at himself for not covering the 1st base or giving balks he keeps saying so what.. i loved him as a long reliever when we need 3-4 innings out of him.. but he is pushing his luck..

2 balks, 2 defensive screw ups, 3 walks, 7 ER.

I don't really have anything else to say... Except Colon is a walking PEDs dispenser.

It would make me so happy to see Colon get nailed for cheating again.

I read they are trying to decide on Webster or Aceves to start on Sunday. Must be a joke there somewhere.

Might as well keep the other team in the dark as long as they can :D

I'm sick of the Aceves show. He's been given good chances and seems to just piss them away. He can not be gone quick enough imo. The Dodgers need pitching, Ben can do them a solid lol

Yes, it is easy to dsagree as long as there are no personal attacks that accompany them and that has been the problem here. Red Sox players and front office personel are open season and everyone has the right to criticize or attack them if that is their opinion. Those who disagree should counter with a alternate argument as to why that person is wrong. IT SHOULD NOT BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PERSONAL ATTACK.

I have been attacked by three or four people on this board and when they attack me I try to attack them back with even nastier retorts. They stop doing it and I stop. As I told Ted, that is the problem here. I may have done this once or twice myself but not recently and I try like hell not to do it anyone and haven't for a long time. I expect the same in return. I can be criticized for being wrong on an issue but when it gets personal I have the right to return the favor and I will. If they stop I will gladly stop.

People are stubborn. If you're not going to stop until they stop, and they do the same... it never ends. I've definitely had arguments that simply went on and on because of it. At some point, you just need to be the better person.

...which is the problem. When someone says something like "Your Dodgers", which is annoying but not profane, replying to it with 'f*** you ******* dipshit f***er' for two paragraphs is far, far worse. How about using the ignore feature? We have one, and if more people used it things would be much simpler around here.

Especially some old people. Never know when to stop and STFU. Sad and true.

It is more than annoying and that guy knows it and has known it for seven years. Nothing has stopped him from doing it so I went viral. I haven't heard from him since and maybe it worked. Maybe not. Believe me, if he leaves me alone there will be no more problems. All I want to do is talk Red Sox baseball and I'll be damned if anyone is going to keep me from doing. I do not subscribe to turning the other cheek. Some people don;t understand that, but I sure as hell hope that this stuff is now over and we can just talk baseball without any digs or personal attacks. Calling me a Dodger fan is a dig; he knows that.

You know what could stop you Fred? Being banned. It would be a good idea to heed the advice coming from one of the moderators of the website.

No, what would stop me if those personal attacks cease immediately. Who is this moderator you're talkling about? I would like to know because maybe he can stop this pissing contest. I want to talk baseball without being personally attacked. When they stop I will gladly stop. Again USER, anyone on this board has the right to criticize a player or front office person, and in return have someone take on a counter argument without a personal attack. I do not attack someone first .

Now can we just move on and talk baseball. That's all I really want to do.

If you use the ignore feature, it will collapse their posts and you won't see it unless someone (who you aren't ignoring) quotes them.

While I think the ignore system is pretty weak, I honestly think it will help you Fred.

I can't defend certain shots that certain posters make, I'm guilty of my fair share of arguments with other posters here. Hell the one time I got banned it was because I was fighting the one person who's on your side. :)

Youk of the Nation, and any other user with a darker/bold username is a moderator. Yeszir is the king. (Sorry a700)

To use the ignore feature, click "User CP" at the top left, then on the left about halfway down go to "edit ignore list" and then type in the user which you wish to ignore. And save.

Honestly, I think you should try it for a day or two to cool off.

This is embarrassing. I did NOT know where the ignore feature was. I will take you up on that, and there will be no more problems from my end. I will use that feature so I don't have to deal with those three people anymore. Thanks Stallion
