Yup. Ya can't cure stupid.....

Or naivety either un. But keep trying though. It's hard to overcome both naivety and stupidity but keep plugging away. Maybe you'll even be able to come up with an original thought yourself one of these years.

It is very hard to hit in the early spring. Then again by season end, if you are in contention you have to beat the better teams, meaning teams with pitching. By then, they all know how to get your hitters out. A tough road unless you can pitch.

I suspect the biggest early challenge for JBJ will be hitting against pitchers that simply do not give in. He has never played at any level of baseball where the pitcher will throw you a 2-1 or even 3-1 breaking ball or off speed pitch. Hitting the off speed/breaking stuff then is an entirely different kettle of fish than hitting a hanging slider when you thought you might get a breaking ball anyway. That is where AAA ball would really help him. At least you get some of that in AAA.

Jung---I got that reason or excuse from my main foil an hour or so ago. It is true that hitting is harder in the Spring when it is colder, but the Yankees didn't seem to have too much trouble hitting in cold weather and neither did the Orioles or Blue Jays. I just don't think Red Sox fans should use that as an excuse unless most of the teams we face are having the same problem. Well if our pitching is as good as it has looked this Spring maybe we can get by with fewer runs, or maybe this Spring the team will hit better.

As for Bradley, yes, he will be facing ML pitchers who will change speeds and throw breaking pitches on any count, but I think this guy is the real thing, and who really wants Gomes playing LF in Yankee Stadium, a treacherous place for left fielders in the old park and the new? AAA ball would help Jackie but right now I think we need him badly what with both Ortiz and Drew missing from the starting lineup and whether Ellsbury is totally fit to go full speed on Monday.

No, you have completely made up this trend of the Sox ending their ST's on losing streaks. Again, your reading comprehension is just pathetic.

They've had slow starts because their pitching hasn't been good enough. Typically, bats don't awaken until May or so. Since the Sox relied heavily on their bats, the cold weather really caused them to struggle as their pitching wasn't good enough to win low scoring games.

It has nothing to do with ST, or your fictional poor ST performances.

And you may as well add Virginia boy to that list as I lived there for 2 years. Furthermore, I've lived in MA for almost 30 years.

Please see a dr, Fred. I think you may have heat stroke.

There has been some organizational backpedaling on Gomes since he has proven to need a compass to find LF. But that does not make sense to me. Were they going to play Kalish and Nava with Gomes in reserve? Nava switch hits but is much better from the Left side. Seems to me that Gomes platooning was always the plan and Nava would have been in reserve.

Yeah, not really sure what the plan for Gomes was. His pluses are that he kills lefties and he's a good clubhouse guy. Oh well, it's probably a good thing he's here to DH while Papi's on the shelf.

What they said when he was signed was that he killed lefthanders and was going to be a platoon left fielder unless he showed he could play every day, and the latter happened after Kalish went on the shelf again. We all know he is not too swift defensively but as a DH against lefties he could be ok if they decided to go with Jackie in LF. The joker in the deck is Nava. I never thought he would be in the mix when ST started but I keep thinking someone in the organization likes this kid because he seems like a cold that just doesn't want to go away. If Bradley is sent down now or later I guess we have Nava and Gomes in LF with Carp doing the DHing, but that doesn't make much sense to me either. I guess we better let Farrell work this out.

BTW, I have liked what I've seen from our new manager. What do you guys think?

Nava was probably not a favorite to make the team out of camp. I think when they signed Gomes the plan was him to be the everyday LF or possibly platoon with Kalish. Lots changed since December lol Kalish and Ortiz are hurt, Gomes GPS broke so LF looks shaky and JBJ has burst onto the scene.

Ehhhh.

The numbers Nava put up are decent enough that I always thought he was going to be given a long look for a reserve role. A "favorite?" Maybe not, but a guy who can get his scrawny little keister on base and play decent corner OF has his uses.

I wouldn't be surprised if Napoli needs to wind up DHing a bit this year. First base is a definite issue.

Yep,Sweeney did not take advantage of ST and show he has any more bat to offer.

I can also get on board with the real season of baseball. RIP 2013 Spring Training thread........ RIP.

At least Sweeney has been cut. I think that's something everyone can get on board with.

Not surprising since you prefer rhetoric over critical thinking.

The rest of us looked at the roster and saw it'd shake out this way.

We all knew that it was down to Nava, Carp, Bradley, and Sweeney for three final spots. I would take Bradley over Sweeney anytime. I am still waiting for that roster spot to clear up. With Bradley, Ellsbury, and Victorino in the OF, that is one hell of a defense. Gomes gets his at bats in the DH slot until Big Papi comes back, then we make a decision on what to do with JBJ.

So, it will be okay if I throw it up to you periodically when we are arguing?

Sure. I have no problem considering who the ignoree is!

I may still have to remind you that I've never been banned.....;):D

Speaking of leaving....it is almost time to kill the 2013 Spring Training thread. Thank God. Bring on the game threads.

Well, they've got 'till 3 pm to clear a spot on the 40 man roster for Bradley. It's 12:51 pm, and still no twitter news.

Cafardo and others think Gomez will be DFAd. Or should be. But nothing yet.

I thought it would be Gomez but now I am wondering if they have something more ambitious in mind. Then again, they may have already told JBJ what they are going to do. So he may already know if he needs to be preparing to play or not. I would really be surprised if they left him hanging this late. Would not surprise me at all if they are taking all the time they have to announce how they are going to shuffle the deck though.
