Didn't see an existing thread so thought I'd see... With the sox dropping 6 straight, 11 below .500....and now the Front office flying to Seattle including John Henry.... Do you think he'll still make it through the year?

Yes. They got rid of all the players that hate him, and I'd like to see him come back to prove his worth. If they start off slow again though, he's gone.

I'm not convinced that Valentine's the driving force behind the issues, but I sure do think he plays a part in the mix.

Whatever it is that slowed the club down to the crawl they've been doing for the last couple of months however, I hope they figure it out and get it fixed for "next year!"

Not that many years ago, it seemed it was simply that Management didn't want to spend the money for a decent Pitching staff. These days it seems like they have been careless with the revenue that a couple of winning years afforded them.

It's been encouraging to see a good bunch of talent coming out of Pawtucket, only to burn out fairly quickly. Seems like a coaching issue to me. Perhaps expecting too much too soon from the rookies?

Let's take a step back for a second, shall we? I seem to remember a Rather crappy number of years for the Mets,eh?! Then what happens? Valentine taps the Pitching coach for the Mets on the shoulder to come to Boston. What's wrong with THAT picture?! Twenty-five years of crappy pitching in NY, and Bobby brings that guy to OUR team?

Ah well.......such are the musings of yet another loyal, yet wounded fan. Meanwhile, Pedroia works his tail off to try and keep the Sox Out of last place. Dustin: I hope you demand a higher salary for that "C" that you should be wearing on your jersey! You sure in heck DESERVE it!!

Valentine is a poor communicator, and it has not helped this team move forward. It is as simple as that.

I don't think Valentine is the problem. However, I don't think he is the solution either.

He should be canned. I thought giving him a second chance made sense, but he's clearly not adding any magic to this listless team. Not sure if it needs to happen today or at the end of the season, but sooner or later.

IMO BV 's hire accomplished the purpose of demostrating how dysfunctional an organization the Red Sox were. BV was a necessary interim step in organizational and cultural change. I have my doubts however whether Henry has fully understood what happened to lead to the current situation. Nor, I am convinced that he will take the steps needed to set the franchise on the correct course. Many here have spoken of the need to bring in an experience outside baseball exec to oversee Cherrington. I doubt that Henry is ready to do that. I have zero confidence that Cherrington left to his own devices will find the right manager. A Gene Lumont or a Brad Mills type isn't what is needed.

I agree ex1. The manager also has to fall with such a hugely disappointing season. He appears to be miserable anyway.

He's gone at the end of the year. He's dicking around with the lineups and doesn't seem to take his job seriously. He was never the right fit, unless they only hired him to stir s*** up and get people sent out of town (the Jim Brewer theory).

Cherington and Henry are both in Seattle but "nothing is going on"? They must have needed travel miles.

After the story they told about the NY meeting......outright lies equal to those told by the players, I have no regard for ownership.

I have no reason to believe them that this meeting was also planned and just a regular day.

Had to vote that V would stay through the end of the season because I feel that ownership won't have the guts to fire him in the next few days.

Hopefully they prove me wrong and step up. Last year, they spent way too much time with the managerial search and ended up hiring the wrong guy anyway. That said, not sure anyone would have succeeded this year.

Fact is, they have so many issues they need to fix this offseason that they will need to start the managerial search BEFORE the season ends. There is no sense in waiting until Dec. 1st to begin their actual offseason. They need to be thorough, but they need to have the guy in place by early to mid November.

I'd like to see him stay.

I realize he's not very popular right now, especially with the way the team has been performing lately.

Coming in after Francona was an extremely difficult situation. Many guys didn't want Terry to leave and were anti V from the get go. Instead of acting like professionals, there was backstabbing and whining.

Hopefully most of the loudest voices have left and the others that remain will get on with team unity.

I think we should keep BV until the end of the season. The worst thing we need is for BV to get fired, and a new manager to come in and the team to get life and fight for meaningless wins to ruin our draft position.

We should keep BV in to keep losing so we climb up the reverse standings, and get a protected draft pick.

Ah, the old Colts strategy.

And the Colts almost screwed it up. They started winning at the end, and had they beat the Jaguars at the end they'd have lost their top pick. The other teams were (literally) out of Luck. (mmmmm)

One reason why they might keep him around another month is so they don't have to hire an interim manager. Maybe the guy they have in mind for next year isn't available right now--or wouldn't want

to take over during the season. Too complicated with the coaches, etc. Bobby will have to hang in the wind for a month to get next year's pay for free.

I also think that ownership doesn't want to reward Bogar by naming him interim. Bogar and Tuck are part of the problem. They need to go whenever Valentine goes.

I say Bobby Valentine is likely fired in the next 24 hours...or less. When team officials travel 3,000 miles on a fact finding mission, something is up.

I have heard some other things, also. I think Valentine wants out.

I think that he definitely wants out, and I don't think he will say goodbye to any of the prima donas in the clubhouse who probably turn his stomach.

I understand there are coaches and players he has already stopped talking to.

There are coaches and players who aren't worth talking to. Lucchino made a huge mistake in not letting Tuck or Bogar (one of whom wanted out before the season started) walk during the off season.

1. I think Valentine will not be back next year.

2. I would like to see him come back because I feel he got as crappy treatment as possible from media, front office and most of all the players.

3. A little part of me would like to see him fired asap, can you imagine some of the dirt he will spill about what really goes on in that organization.
