Naploi's hip is so bad that we are concerned that it may have degenerated during contract negotiations. Oye!!!

Fort Report: MRI for Napoli; Buchholz progressing .

Posted 1 hour ago.PrintEmail .By Scott Lauber / Boston Herald

@ScottLauber

Napoli will undergo an MRI exam Thursday to determine whether the degenerative condition in his hips has worsened over the past two months. The results will be shared with Dr. Joseph Lane at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery, who has been consulting on behalf of the Red Sox first baseman since he was diagnosed in December with avascular necrosis, a condition that can lead to bone weakness and eventually death.

Although Napoli insists he remains asymptomatic, the Red Sox have held him back from infield drills until he receives clearance from doctors. Napoli has been taking batting practice.

"Right now, there's no impact or pounding so to speak," manager John Farrell said Wednesday. "Everything points to him being ready for Opening Day. The next couple of days is going to give us a lot of information about how we can start his progression with more on-field baseball activity."

In other injury news, Clay Buchholz was able to play catch Wednesday, prompting Farrell to label it a "good day" for the right-hander. Buchholz tweaked his right hamstring Tuesday while covering first base in fielding drills. According to Farrell, Buchholz' discomfort is minimal and localized. The Red Sox still believe he will miss only a few days.

And left-hander Felix Doubront played catch from 75 feet. Farrell said Doubront's throwing program will be extended to 120 feet Thursday, and the Red Sox are hopeful he will be able to throw off a mound by next Wednesday. Doubront is lagging slightly behind other pitchers as a precaution because of weakness in his throwing shoulder.

My understanding is that the MRI is just to see how effective the medicine has been. As a comparison from pre-medicine to now.

He still doesn't feel anything or have any symptoms. Certainly it bears watching but until he says anything other than 'its frustrating because I don't feel anything. I'm rehabbing from something I don't even feel' then I'm not going to be too worried about it

When did he go on the medication?

Ted, last week you gave me a heads-up about how some poster we both know was trying to goad me into losing it and getting me either suspended or banned and I thanked you for it. Time to return the favor. There are two posters who are trying to do that to you and I have kept my cool about, but I am getting ready to blow. I would suggest to those two that you ride it easy and keep this stuff civil before I start ripping both of you a new one.

There is a lot of tension on this board and many of us are wired over last year, the injuries that have already hit us so soon in ST, not to mention the fact that some moves that should have been made this off season haven't be done. I believe I was suspended once a few years back and it's no fun, but it's less fun seeing friends and colleagues being insulted and blasted on this board. What do you all say if try our damndest to refrain from that starting now. No personal insults and a more collegial atmosphere. I think we're capable of that.

Apparently, if you disagree with someone you're trying to get them banned.

Exactly. That's how it's always been around here. Disagree = Ban. Makes complete sense.

Lol, nothing has changed since I was here last

Heh...there isn't much actual baseball news these days but people can still find things to argue about and get pissed about.

Trade Dustin Pedroia, the heart and soul of the Red So? If that rumor did have any legs then Lucchino and Company have to be the dumbest bastards on the planet. I hope you aren't talking such a trade up Dojii; I think you have better sense than to do that.

I'm saying that the Royals would kill to have him. The guy I wanted to trade to the Royals was Brock Holt.

For pity's sake, give me some credit.

Anymore news on the Sox interested in Mike Carp?

Was internally as far as the talks went or did the organization reach out to Carp's agent?

Can he play the OF with any proficiency. We need a lefthanded OFer to pair up with Gomes.

Damnit Fred, every time you get on a good baseball discussion you fall right back into a700's drama...

And we don't need to try and get him or anyone else banned. If everyone would just ignore him he'd have no one to argue with, and with that he'd have nothing to actually discuss and hopefully take his monarchy elsewhere.

 I'm a must read. But maybe you can start a boycott of A700hitter.

Don't waste your time replying to me, your on ignore. Please find someone else to annoy.
It will be a pleasure. I am sure that you will refrain from your cheap potshots that are your specialty.;)

He doesn't really hit that well, and he plays the field like Gomes. I'd pass.

Dan Haren told Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports that his agent had a lot of conversations with the Red Sox this past winter (Twitter link). The Nationals ultimately signed Haren to a one-year, $13MM deal.

He would have helped us a lot.

I liked a lot of things that the Red Sox did in free agency this year. Passing on Haren wasn't one of them.

How do you know they passed on him rather then Haren choosing an NL contender in a year in which he hopes to rebuild his free agent value? I missed the interview where he said he was hoping to play in Boston, but never got an offer. I did see the one saying they had conversations but ultimately he chose the Nats. Is there another one?

AdGon says the Red Sox problem was with the management, not the players. Lots of conflicts upstairs.

Lucchino paints everything over--he's one of the problems, in my view. It was clear his choice for manager, Valentine, never got any support from the rest of the organization. Maybe his frustrations led to his mouthing off to the media about his players.

Crawford? Well, Crawford seems a bit confused about what his problems were. He certainly wasn't a good fit--defensively in LF at small Fenway, or offensively--in a free swinging lineup that did not play smallball.

And he was grossly overpaid on a team that sneered at stolen bases.
