I think they are good for 70-75 wins this year considering they did not make any considerable

acquisitions this past off-season.

75-78 Wins.

I'm with these two dudes.

I hope they do better though. Baseball is always more enjoyable when teams come out of nowhere and / or overachieve.

I like Carlos Santana, but not much else.

Wonder how Lowe will like the bar scene there...

Choo should bounce back and guys like Brantley and LaPorta should be fun to watch.

I do like the 1-2 of Masterson and Ubaldo. I don't think they have the high end firepower to contend, but they might be a surprise if Choo and Ubaldo make good on their potential this year.

I...what...I mean...really? Seriously?

Well, it's coming from a fan of another team in the division. I think he's pretty clearly talking down the preseason front-runner (on paper). We see that here all the time from both Sox and Yankee fans.

On a serious note, how are you feeling? Any better? I certainly hope so.

Yes, I'm much better. The wound is healing, and the pain in manageable. I'm still about 4 weeks out from a total recovery given the size of the wound left over from the surgery, and the fact that it needs to heal from the inside/out with the aid of gauze packing.

didn't know that you had a surgery... I wish you the best ORS; everything is going to be alright, you'll see. :)

I think Detroit has a great line up and a solid bullpen. But, I don't trust the rotation after Verlander, and the defense is LOL worthy.

I am TRULY happy to hear this. Just be careful!

I used to think that the center of the universe was my penis. As a middle aged man I have now come to believe that the center of the universe is my sphincter.

Sorry for being so graphic all.

Let's all hope that ORS recovers fully very soon.

Well 12 games into the season and the Tigers have one of the best staffs in baseball and their defense from a fielding percentage stand point has been one of the best in baseball. Most advance fielding metrics have Cabrera being a league average 3B.

Once again Doug Fister gets underrated. His career statistics are better than basically the whole Red Sox rotation except for strikeouts.

....in 452 IP, most of them pitched in Safeco Park. HOLY SAMPLE SIZE, BATMAN!

For your enlightenment, Fister's ERA+ (which accounts for park factors) is lower than Jon Lester's, Clay Buccholz' and Josh Beckett's.

Well Fister's career ERA+ is the same as Beckett's, and his 115 is only 3 points lower than Buchholtz. Fister still has a better ERA, FIP, WHIP, BB/9, BB/K than all of Boston's starters. Maybe it's just me but I would rather have Fister than have 180+ million wrapped up in Dice-K and Lackey.

What do Dice-K and Lackey have to do with the discussion? You said better stats than all Red Sox pitchers, and you were wrong.

The sample size for Fister is small compared to Beckett's, and he played most of his career in an easier park. You just can't make the argument that Fister is a better pitcher than Beckett or Lester. Buchholz, arguably.

Dice K and Lackey are Red Sox pitchers, are they not? I said Fister had better numbers which he does. The Tigers rotation isn't just verlander. Fister is a capable #2. His home and away splits are not drastically different. He's a groundball pitcher. Safeco doesn't apply when he's not giving up many flyballs. Perhaps if Boston traded for Fister instead of Bedard they wouldn't have collapsed.

His HR/9 at home was 0.62 and 0.8 on the road. Not a big difference.

Who has said he's not a capable pitcher? I am countering your point that he's statistically better than the entire Sox pitching staff. If you consider the pitching environment and don't cherry pick stats, Beckett and Lester are better pitchers. Sorry if you don't want to admit it.

Also, his ERA is a full run higher on the road (4.08 to 3.04), another example of cherry picking stats. And a sample size of 450 innings is still fairly small.

I agree that he's a capable number two, but the rest of your point is moot.

Also, the guy who made the comment about Detroit is a White Sox fa, (as evidenced by his monicker which has WHITE SOX on it). You may have a better point against his rotation.
