I think they'll get a RHd hitter, but I doubt it will be Beltran. I think the Mets are overvaluing him thanks to all the media they get in NY and the NY-based networks. The Mets have to realize that teams in other cities don't care about media buildup for a player. Maybe they see Beltran a little differently--a 34yo guy past his prime with bad knees.Plus he's a rental unless he signs an extension--fat chance with Boras.

They ain't gotten anything close to what they're asking.

No chance. The Mets are asking for a return that would be tough to get if Beltran was locked in for next year too.

I see Silverman at the Herald was quoted in TradeRumors the Sox won't make a deal before the deadline. A sure sign they will, since he said the same last year--just before they made a deal.

Jeff Conine of the Marlins FO was quoted as saying he would consider dealing Hanley Ramirez "if it were up to him." Wonder if there's any fire there.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Red Sox regard the possibility of trading for Carlos Beltran as a "total longshot."

Olney says Boston's "first priority" is pitching, which is no surprise. The veteran outfielder seems likely to wind up with the Giants, Phillies, Braves or Rangers at this point, though we can't rule out a surprise team making a bid. He's a near certainty to be dealt within the next week.

I believe Beltran is going to SF and I'm glad about that. I'm willing to roll with Reddick/Drew/McDonald if I'm the Sox. A top of the rotation starter isn't going to happen so I'm thinking more along the lines of Jeremy Guthrie to eat innings until Buchholz (hopefully) comes back. Another interesting guy is Nolasco from Florida, though I doubt that happens since the resources are scare.

I think the main move the Sox will make will be for a lefty out of the bullpen.

I would love Guthrie on the Sox. Unfortunately a Bruce Chen type seems more likely to me.

I wonder what the asking price on Mark Buehrle is.

I'm fine with it too. I don't want Beltran and his old knees trying to patrol right field in Fenway.

Watch them make a big deal for Hanley. That will shock everybody. Don't underestimate Theo's loyalties.

The other guy I'm watching is Francouer. He came up in the Red Sox organization. But KC may be overvaluing him.

Not a big Francoeur fan, but that may be irrational. Also he has never been a part of the Sox organization.

I don't see the Sox making a big move. Beltran would be nice but it's not a necessary move, and while a SP would be excellent, those are very tough to find.

.

Francouer was in the Red Sox minor league syatem early on.

If the name is Jeff Francoeur' date=' I'd prefer stay as we are.[/quote']

If he is cheap, I think we should go after him. Francouer is better then McDonald and Drew and gives us a nice right handed hitting outfielder off the bench to replace McDonald.

CSNNE's Sean McAdam is reporting that the Red Sox will place J.D. Drew (shoulder) on the disabled list Monday.

Apparently it's an "impingement in the left shoulder." The Globe's Nick Cafardo suggests that the Sox might be trying to deal for an outfielder to fill Drew's spot on the 25-man roster. Josh Reddick owners should stay tuned

God I hope they get Carlos Quentin.

There aren't many star RF's in the league. Quentin might be your best bet. Beltran isn't out of the question though either... The problem with Quentin is, next Sunday, the trading deadline, the Sox are playing the Sox. You don't want to trade someone to the team you're playing.

They did that in 04. The sox were playing the Twins and a couple hours before the game that 3 way trade with Nomar, Meintkiewicz and Orlando Cabrera happened.

It was weird because the night before Meintkiewicz was playing for Minnesota and suddenly the next night he's on the visiting team instead.

Would it be possible for them to get Alexei Ramirez as a shortstop or is it more likely for us to get Quentin and or Jackson?

I didn't say it was impossible. It would just be weird and I would rather have Reddick out in RF then Quentin.

I was hoping Wakefield would step up today to be able to claim one of the two open rotation spots until Buch comes back. With the remainder of Buch's 2011 being so uncertain, the bottom two spots could be black holes of disaster, and the third spot is dependent on Lackey continuing his progress. I see no choice but for Theo to get a starter by the deadline.

At least the light showed up here.

I mean, we have to prioritize the SP if the money and the prospects are the show stopper in order to make a smart move; then... If you want to bring whoever you want, even better.

No he wasn't.

You're right. Came up through the Braves system. I seem to recall some early connect with the Red Sox, but no. Sorry about that.:o

According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, Carlos Beltran has given the Mets a list of 7 National League teams that he would like to be traded to.

There are eight teams in contention in the NL, with Pittsburgh being the likely destination Beltran prefers not to go to. According to ESPN's Adam Rubin, Beltran has privately told those close to him that he might block a trade (he has a full no-trade clause) to the American League, even though he's publicly said that he's open to a move to the AL. Rumors aside, we'd be willing to bet the farm that Beltran winds up with a contender in the senior circuit.

I don't like Beltran because he is being way overvalued by the media. The KC papers today are talking about Francouer maybe going to the Red Sox. But he's cheap and tied up next year--not the kind of player KC would deal.

I think they'll wind up with somebody at the last minute they can get cheapest. Could be Francouer or Quentin or even Ludwick.

Longshot special: blockbuster for Hanley Ramirez. That would solve their RHd hitting balance and SS problem with one player.
