If Beckett had been supported that way' date=' he wouldn't have lost any game at this point. Life is unfair sometimes :)[/quote']

FOR REAL. I get worried every tim Beckett starts now. I think, okay, sure, Beckett is probably going to have 0,1,2 maybe 3 ER but will he get run support? Like going 8IP for 0ER but no win? Lame.

Bob Klapisch of The Bergen Record says (on Twitter) that the Yankees are still leaning towards not trading for a starter even though Phil Hughes got hit around by the Athletics last night. Their next option is summoning Ivan Nova back from the minors.

That would rock!

Game 7, 2011 ALCS. Red Sox vs Yankees.

"Ladies and gentlemen, pitching tonight for the Yankees, number 47, Ivan Nova."

"Aww f***." reply the Yankees fans as Nova readies to fire a first pitch meatball to Jacoby Ellsbury.

Not me.

A World Series is a great thing, and is worth a lot in the short term, but it doesn't make me suddenly complacent 5-6 years down the line when a player we could have had is an MVP candidate and the player we trade him for is retired, too injured to play, or completely washed up. Of course, I'm talking more about Hanley than Bogaerts, but who knows what this kid can be. My only real knowledge of him is from the most recent Soxprospects podcast, where he was discussed very highly. In particular they were noting that there were very few kids who go from Dominican Summer League to Greenville at 18 and he is holding his own.

I would be speaking differently if we were trading Bogaerts as part of a package for Hanley or Justin Upton or Felix Hernandez or someone who was a longterm solution. A few months of Beltran could end up like the Eric Gagne deal did if he gets injured.

The Sox should (and likely would) stick with offers of sold MLB caliber but NOT star caliber players who are closer to the majors but with a lower ceiling.

Those World Series banners are forever. I have seen thousands of prospects come and go and a small percentage of them have made any memorable impact, of that small percentage that became stars and they number in the hundreds. They come and go. The Championships are rare and they are forever. If we trade the next Ken Griffey Jr to get a piece to help us win a championship, I am okay with that.

I was very encouraged when Tito made the right call today.
I was wondering if this couldn't be seen as a way of deflating the interest in Beltran. If Reddick demonstrates that we can largely satisfy the RF need internally, fewer people should expect us to lose our heads over Beltran, and it can also serve to push Reddick's stock higher, depending on his performance there.

There is not 100% certain in both win the WS (even bringing a OF, of course) or future prospect's performance, but considering all the factors and the actual roster, I already see a solid team that have great chances to win the WS; so... I wouldn't give up a prospect for a short term this season and far less for a Top one, no way!.

I'd rather have a guy who got bombed 1 night and dominated 2 nights' date=' than a guy who surrenred a consistent 4 runs a night. The first guy seems likely to do more winning for you.[/quote']So on the "suspected available" list, who are the starters that would be able to hold an ERA of 4.50 or less in the AL East? Fenway friendly?

Given that all the trading teams seem to be asking for the moon for anyone we'd like, I'm more convinced than ever that our present strategy should simply be to WAIT.

And, while waiting, participate in every possible rumor that makes the Yankees and every other potential deep pocket team shoot their wad and overpay / overtrade to get what they want.

When the dust settles at the trade deadline, or perhaps in August, there's no telling what might be left and at how affordable a price.

If you don't need much, simply bidding up the price and not trading can be a huge win.

Ken Rosenthal said on the FOX Saturday Baseball broadcast that the Guardians have interest in B.J. Upton.

Rosenthal also confirmed a report from ESPN's Buster Olney that Upton will -- with certainly -- be traded at this year's deadline. The news comes on the heels of Desmond Jennings' sudden callup. Upton, 26, has a disappointing .712 OPS in 94 games for the Rays this season but may finally peak with a change of scenery

Yankees just lost 4-3 to the As.

Theo may just do nothing. So far, so good. But the RHd bat in the OF will be needed in the playoffs.

Nobody is going to beat the Phillies.

The Rays should be buyers, not sellers. Hell, they are in the hunt.

yup, that's another way to play the ballgame from the FO.

Besides, I believe that the Phillies will struggle a lot against the Braves who have a solid rotation as well, and SF.

The Phillies have a great team but they're not invincible. Only ESPN would have you believe that. I can name you rotations that were really good that haven't won it all.

Their rotation rocks against the Red Sox with Hamels and Lee. The lineup imbalance is a weakness. Plus they have Halliday.

The Red Sox lefties are not hitting LHP as well as RHP. You can look it up.

Again they're not invincible. They CAN be beat and just because you have a good rotation doesn't neccesarily mean you're automatically going to win it all however you do have a better chance. Like I said I can name you about 5 teams with great rotations and got nothing. Look it up yourself if you want.

White Sox and Red Sox have done a lot of scouting of one another over the last week. Not just advance work for upcoming series.

Hmm. Edwin Jackson? Carlos Quentin? Mark Buehrle? Those are all guys who are FA in 2012 (with the exception of Quentin, who is Arb eligible in 2012, and becomes a FA in 2013, but is in a 1 year contract).

This from Ken Rosenthal via MLBTR:

Don't be surprised as to see the White Sox end up as sellers, says Rosenthal. They've got six starters as it is, so Edwin Jackson could be moved without harming the rotation much. Carlos Quentin could be dealt as well, and replaced by Dayan Viciedo. Controlled through 2012, Quentin would become one of the hottest chips on the market.

Quentin is hitting .266/.359/.523 with 19 HR in spacious Comisky Park. He has pretty even splits, (.870 OPS vs RHP, .920 OPS vs LHP), so he could be the everyday RF for the Sox.

Vs. LHP - .276/.355/.440/.795

Vs. RHP - .277/.362/.462/.814

Those are nearly identical splits. And the Sox vs LHP have a higher OPS than any other team vs RHP. They are 4th in the MLB and 3rd in the AL in OPS vs LHP.

Besides, if Buch, Beckett and Lester perform as they are supposed to, there won't be that huge difference in pitching, and the offense could be the driver to win the WS.

My concern again is their healthy, if that is covered we have great chances to win with the actual lineup.

Put it in this way and I hate to do it but, we face the damn Yankees 18 times, which is by far a better offense than the Phillies, and guess what? our rotation has been pretty good against them. The Phillies? they face the Braves, the Mets and another "solid offense NL teams" but nothing compared to a AL East offense.

MLB.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Red Sox have inquired about A's righty Rich Harden.

Harden limited the Yankees to two runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a 4-3 victory and has a 23/8 K/BB ratio in four starts since returning from the disabled list. The Red Sox are aiming to add starting pitching depth

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe tweets that the Red Sox and White Sox have been scouting each other a lot in the past week, and it's not just for the upcoming series between the two. Speculation here (from Steve Adams), but both Edwin Jackson and Carlos Quentin were rumored to be potential White Sox trade chips earlier today, and both could help in Boston.

My guess is that we'd be interested in their surplus of starters (Jackson, Floyd, Peavy) or their surplus of lefty relievers (Sale, Thornton, Ohman).

According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, the Nationals aren't looking to trade Ian Desmond.

The Nats have been receiving calls about the 25-year-old shortstop, but they consider him part of their plan for future success and don't want to give up on him quite yet. Desmond has hit just .228/.276/.314 through 92 games this season after a promising rookie campaign.

I'd rather not acquire Rich Harden, this is the guy who once injured himself reaching across his body to turn off his alarm in the morning.

Yeah. If you like Lowrie and Dubront, you'll love Harden.
