They have a difficult schedule, all they play is division opponent for their remaining games. 7 vs TB, 6 vs BOS, and a pair of series TOR and BAL.

It will be a root canal to win the division.

Swisher and Gardner are out due to injuries to their knee and wrist respectively. Time to just focus on locking down the wild card. If we bust ass and win the Division, but lose Swish and Gardner for the playoffs, then we are toast. If we rest up our guys and go into Minnesota healthy, then I think we have as good a shot as any to win the whole thing

Gardner has been one of the best players on the team. Grandy is pulling his weight, especially of late. Kearns is a 4th OFer, he'd be the one to worry about. But Swish at DH doesnt really change too much aside from maybe moving Berkman to the bench or to LF.

there's no way they move berkman to left. one of "the best players on the team" is already playing there

Not sure why you're mocking Jacko's comment about Gardner. He has the second high WAR on the entire team. It's a very reasonable assertion.

Yep, WAR doesnt lie. And Gardner could move to RF or CF and Grandy could move to RF. Regardless, Berkman can play LF, which gives us some options

which is more likely?

a. brett gardner is the second best player on the yankees

b. war is misjudging his value

He's not the second best player on the Yankees, but he has certainly been one of their best this year, taking into account all aspects of the game.

Well' date=' he's one of the best defensive LFers in the game with one of the best arms. He reaches base 39% of the time and he steals 40 bases. Might be that you are undervaluing him[/quote']

do you seriously believe that brett gardner is the second best player on the yankees?

ARod shouldnt be in the 4 hole. He is miserable right now

Completely disagree with this. He has looked bad tonight, but he has swung the bat very well since his return. One bad night, against one of the best pitchers in baseball, doesn't change that.

No' date=' I dont. But he could be having the second best offensive yr. I could believe that[/quote']

Nah, WAR includes defense. By Runs Created, he's 5th.

SO you disagree with WAR but use it when it suits you?

i don't disagree with war. it's just like any other stat in that it doesn't accurately assess the value of every player in every situation. this is clearly one of those times when it doesn't accurate assess a player's value
