4 games in and he is now approaching ace-like status? LOLOLOL! Typical nonsensical, blowhard, Yankee trash.

Hughes is going to get lit-up.. He is not close to an ace.. He has pitched well against the dregs of the AL.. He won't last 7 tonight.. I expect him to get run before the 6th inning. Clay has much better stuff than Hughes and it will show this weekend.

Hughes has pitched against these PITIFUL offenses...Using runs-scored as the metric... These are the MLB rankings for the teams Baby Hughzey has faced

White Sox #24

Baltimore #27

OAK #17

LAA #23

**Not one team in the top-half in runs scored.

Clay has pitched against....

TAM #1 (5 IP 0 ER, 7 K's)

TOR #9 (8 IP, 1 ER)

TEX #12 (6.2 IP, 3 ER, 10 K's)

KC #19

LAA #23

The reason I brought this up is because a Yankee fan was trying to tell me how much better Hughes was than Buchholz and he was citing Hughes's superior ERA and WHIP. This is due in large part to the teams he has faced. The Yankees wanted to get his confidence up going into Fenway. Anybody who knows anything about baseball knows Clay Buchholz has better stuff than Hughes.. Not only does he throw harder, but his curve and change-up are so much better it is not even debateable. This myopic Yankee fan pretty much sums up most of the Yankee fanbase I have come in contact with....they are morons. They are similar to fans on here who cite Adrian Gonzalez's high .800 lifetime OPS as a reason he is not better than Ryan Howard--totally ignoring Park Factors.

This weekend I fully expect Clay to out-pitch Hughes...though they are not opposing each other. The Yankees and their fans will have no excuses.... Clay will be facing a much tougher lineup..and will succeed. Hughes will be facing 5 or 6 good hitters and get rocked.

The Sox are not very far from "PITIFUL" right now.

Right after scoring 36 runs in a four game series and ranking top five in every offensive category in the AL except SB. I know english is your 2nd language, but numbers are universal.

I have no idea how Hughes is going to do tonight (it's the bottom of the 1st as I type this) but the above statement is pretty bold.

I'm one of Buchholz's biggest fans, but he has been wildly inconsistent throughout his career. I think he's finally started to put it together, but I would say Hughes is in almost the exact same position.

Both pitchers had great minor league production and both have great command of multiple plus pitches. I'm a huge Buchholz fan and have always defended him, but I would be very happy if the Red Sox had Phil Hughes too; any team would be.

Whatever the results this weekend, both are good pitchers and their performance this weekend will not be the final say in the matter.

And Nick Johnson is hurt again and will likely see the DL. So much for him staying healthy by playing DH. Who will replace him in the lineup if he misses significant time?

Marcus Thames.

Thames for now. Montero soon after. Not happy about this wrist injury. He's missed 2 full seasons due to the wrist in his career

Apparently Montero left tonight's game after coming up lame on the base paths. You got any further info regarding that?

If you think the Yankees are going to call up a .244/.306/.378 hitter from AAA to be an everyday player then you're dreaming.

Ouch. He's brutally bad against righties.

Have to take the good with the bad. As the Red Sox (and their fans) know, it's tough to lose two starters. They might play tomorrow without four regulars (Granderson, Johnson, Cano, and Posada).

Basically they have to hope that Posada and Cano get back soon, and that Teixeira and A-Rod heat up. If those things happen they should be OK.

Yankees fans were horribly spoiled by their entire team for the most part being healthy from late April on last year. Welcome to the real world where players get hurt.

Losing a 19 game winner aside, right? Dutchy, what will be your next SN?

You're doing exactly what you used to accuse him of. Your hipocrisy is both pitiful and entertaining. Stop baiting.

So we all acknowledge that he is Dutchy/Imperial. Why is he still here? Ban his IP.

A couple of other posters should go with him as well then......

Then get rid of them too.

I, for one, would gladly make the trade-off, but i'm no mod, so.......:dunno:

Is it my imagination, or does Cervelli look like Rick Moranis from Spaceballs? That helmet looks huge on him!

Down goes another Yankee. It is really amazing that we are 22-8 with all the injuries and inconsistency.

Grandy is set to miss 5-6 weeks

Johnson is out at least 2 weeks and probably closer to a month

We've been without Posada for about a weeks worth of time.

Aceves just got back out there and he's back being laid up.

Park's been DL'd for 3 weeks now

Pettitte is gonna miss a start

Vazquez has been a big suckfest

And ARod and Tex did next to nothing in April

It is a testament to great starting pitching, a good offensive approach and lights out end of the bullpen arms. Get a QS, work the opposing pitcher out of the game early by riding up his pitch count. Take the lead in the middle innings and make is stand up with a SU-CL combo that is the best in the game. Sitting pretty here waiting for the Ray regression.

They have also been lucky with players they didn't expect much from at the beginning of the season. Like Gardner and Cervelli.

CC, Pettite, Burnett and Huuuuughes went 16-1 with an ERA under 3 in April.

Gardner has taken the next step in becoming a potential top of the order threat. He has always had great speed and a great eye. His problem was, that his swing was meant for someone 6'2" 230 instead of a 5 foot nothing 100 nothing scrawny speedster. Long worked with him pretty extensively over the offseason to get him to slap the ball more. And he has, to the tune of >50% groundballs. For him, that means hits. Add to that the new cut down swing, he is now fouling pitches off that he would miss last yr. This means that he is sacrificing power (what little he has) for singles, walks and becoming an all around pain in the ass at the dish.

Cervelli is also taking the next step. He has started to show his advanced plate approach that got him notoriety in the minors, but he is also cutting down on the K's. He will never be a 20 homer catcher. But he is a guy who will battle the hell out of you and then walk his fair share plus play elite defense at the catchers position.

Those two guys have stemmed the tide of the underproduction and injury throughout the lineup. Now that Tex and ARod are hitting, this lineup should be fun to watch
