So the desired end result is "beat the Yankees"?

Well, it's winning the World Series, right? There's a distinct possibility that those two go hand in hand.

... and we just spend this summer at the beach' date=' because they'll have no shot at beating the Yankees.[/quote']

Exactly, unless Beckett and Lester finish 1-2 in the Cy Young. We would have a ton of cash next off-season with the 54 million this year, what we saved on Tex plus whatever comes off the books next year. If they basically throw this season down the drain anticipating 2011 I would be fine if we definitely get Mauer, Halladay and resign Beckett. What would be great would to be not sign Bay this year, trade for Gonzalez. Go get Halladay and Mauer next year. Resign V-Mart and let him DH. Resign Beckett. Probably to complicated to happen but that be sick.

Mets made their first offer to Jason Bay.

4 years/$65 million.

Do the Red Sox match it?

If Bay rather play for the Mets for an extra 5 million f*** em. He clearly doesnt value Boston.

Does anyone know who drugged the Braves front office to get them to agree to the Soriano/Chavez swap? Am I the only one confused about how the hell this trade went through? Where's the SEC when you need them?

ATL has already spent big bucks on the BP expecting Gonzalex and Soriano to leave. Soriano would have eaten up a big portion of what the team has left to spend on filling out the roster. They get a cost controlled decent young RP and the extra money to sort out their other issues.

Enough said.

What's wrong with the deal? They simply didn't want Soriano at that price whatsoever. They would have traded him for a bar of soap. $7 million for a setup man on the Braves? Get real.

Have you seen Jesse Chavez? Now we have to face Soriano in the Rays bullpen because the Braves didn't want to pay the money. Usually this is a move that the Rays would make. Chavez and Soriano are nowhere close to equal and the Braves f***** themselves as well as the teams in the AL East not named the Rays. Makes me wonder who the Braves would have taken from other teams for Soriano.

Really? I thought I was a closet Yankee fan. The goal is to win a Championship, and with the team the Yankees have, the road to the Championship will go through the Yankees. What's your goal... singing Sweet Caroline while we beat K.C.?

Coming from you, yes I could have seen that as the point of the comment. Coming from a700, it seems more like his typical "Yankee" complex rearing it's head.

Now you're probably going to get bashed for having a "Yankees' fans sense of entitlement".

Once again...IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO THEY GOT BACK. The Braves offered arbitration to get a few picks for Soriano. When he accepted, they got rid of him at the first opportunity. Who they got is irrelevant. The fact that they didn't want him AT ALL for the money is the only relevant portion of this conversation.

I'm not surprised you missed this, as you miss most things that aren't spoon-fed to you.

Honestly...thank you for being about the only Sox fan here with a brain. You are one of the few who sees through your FO's ******** and wishes they'd get on the ball. Kudos to you.

No I want the Red Sox to make the "smart" necessary moves to make the team competitive. But if those moves aren't fee sable or cost too much, I'd rather they not just over spend on 2nd tier players. I would rather they hold onto resources and make a push for the right player(s) instead.

Difference is, I can deal with that. You take as some sort of personal spite. If you don't like the way the team is operated, you should probably find someone else to root for or find a new sport until this ownership/FO group is gone. Because it is not going to change no matter how much fans like you bitch and moan. They have won 2 championships and made lots of money in the process. They won't change their business model as long as they seats are filled every night. So unless your going to start picketing games and get the masses to lock-out against the Red Sox, I suggest you get used to it and deal.

The suggestions (whether it's a700 or someone else) that someone should find a different team to root for, because he or she disagrees with the way that team is operating, is absolutely ridiculous.

It's was a gross exaggeration of my point. He knows I am not serious about him rooting for someone else. I just let him know it's always and option :D

JC I hope so. Between that and the DH comment, I'm starting to question Gom's mental capacity/status. Wouldn't want to make fun of anyone who is "special".

JFC are you reaching. He's not crying, he's name calling. For instance, when I call you a window licker, I'm not complaining. I'm saying you are stupid, and, apparently, I'm right.

Ben Sheets' agent Casey Close met with the Rangers yesterday, and according to ESPN's Richard Durrett, the pitcher "is apparently looking for money similar to what he made his last season in the majors -- 2008, which was $12 million." Sheets figures to be popular on the free agent market, but we'll have to see what kind of guarantee he requires after missing all of 2009.

Anyone think Sheets would be worth a "Harden" type deal? 7.5 base, maybe 3-4M in incentives?

sure. Let's bring him in in case Wake can't pitch next year.

And baseball agent Casey Close? Am I the only one that finds that funny?

Casey Close is the husband of that dim wit blonde on Fox and Friends.

So, you are happy if the team is competitive? What does that mean? I want the Sox to be able to compete to win the Championship. Unless they improve, they will not be able to get by the Yankees. They are not competitive with the Yankees. Don't give me the post season is a crap shoot nonsense. It wasn't last season, and it will not be a crap shoot next season unless the Yankees have a plague hit their team. So, what is competitive for you... 500 ball... a Wild card spot? If that is managements goal, they are stringing along the paying fans like myself by being good enough to give us hope of a Championship when there really is very little chance. Do you invest your money to support the Sox?

This is just a waste of bandwidth as are the majority of your posts.

It's an option? No, it's just obnoxious.

If so, doesn't it say more about you than them? I mean, they want to make money and you want to spend yours on them. What am I missing? It's not like you're investing in stock, you're rooting for your team. Nobody's forcing you to make a monitary investment in the Red Sox.

What are you Red Sox fans complaining about?

What makes you think this won't be your team on Opening Day? This team is going very much capable of winning the World Series.

C. Victor Martinez

1B. Kevin Youkilis

2B. Dustin Pedroia

SS. Marco Scutaro

3B. Adrian Beltre

LF. Jason Bay/Matt Holliday

CF. Jacoby Ellsbury

RF. J.D. Drew

For one thing, Bay/Holliday and Beltre are not on the Sox yet. Even if they sign those guys, they will not have improved, and they were not as good as the Yankees last season.

If fans like me don't like being out of first by 10 games in August, they will stop going. First the seats will be sold but empty, but if they continue to wait for the farm as the Yankees collect Championships, soon seats will go unsold and NESN's ratings will go down. You guysare talking big right now about being financially responsible and blah blah blah. In the end, when we watch our team lose, it makes all of us miserable. If the Yankees are cleaning our clocks and the Sox have no hope by August, the financial responsibility of the FO will give you no comfort, because as you said you are a fan rooting for a team. You are not Red Sox management making money by holding the line on salaries.

If they start to stink and fans like me stop going to the games they will notice. You they don't care about, because you are not a customer.

On paper I think this is a better lineup than last year, if it includes Beltre and Bay/Holliday. For one, we get a full year of Martinez rather than Varitek. Scutaro will be better than Gonzalez. Beltre vs. Lowell is debatable but I don't think it's a significant upgrade/downgrade either way.

Plus, TD, you forgot Ortiz.

VMart was playing full time in the second half last season and we had Bay, and the Sox couldn't compete with the Yankees in the second half. I don't see that having him for the entire season will make much of a difference. Also, I don't see Beltre being an offensive upgrade over lowell.

You don't see how having an .860 OPS at catcher for the whole season is better than having an .860 OPS for two months and a .700 OPS for four? Not competing with the Yankees was not Martinez or Bay's fault in the last two months.

And this is true - they do not affect me since I live out of state. I can't even get NESN or the Sox in HD (or else I'd buy that package)...

But I would also put money on the consecutive home sellout streak ending this year. I don't think they truly pulled it off last year and I think this year, unless there's a big trade, that they'll sell out all the home games.

The streak might end, but I don't think it will be because of the players. The diehard fans will go either way, and the pink hat fans don't go because of the players, they go because it's the cool thing to do. The streak did continue through 2006, after all.
