Same difference.

How is Jason Bay now? Right around his career OPS. However, his OPS month by month reads as follows:

1.124

.978

.701

.699

I can't wait for you guys to sign him to a long-term extension. The guy is garbage.

LaRoche didn't cost you anything, but he isn't much either. A marginal move, like our Hinske move. If LaRoche sees more than 1-2 games a week, your team has a problem.

So once Dutchy got banned, you decided to take the dumbass title of the forum. Jeez. Bay is a good to great offensive player, period. He's a middle of the order bat. Just cause he is mired in a ridiculous slump does not mean you can make conclusions based on that one small stretch of his career.

Buddy...you have claimed that title for years. Not even Dutchy held a candle to your stupidity.

On Bay...I'm just not a fan. I think he's nowhere near as good as his numbers were, especially in the weak National League. A lot of holes in his swing, and he's not adjusting well it seems.

I never was a Nady fan either. Some players I like, some I don't. Bay falls in the group of players I don't like.

Great great move the Sox. Who knew when I went to practice I'd come back to 13 pages of Laroche? Add in trading Lugo and getting a competent player in return, and it's not a bad day for the Sox.

The fact that you publicly acclaimed your dislike for Bay basically guarantess a 20-homer, 80 RBI second half barrage from the guy.

Thank you.

you may not like him and you may not want him. That is your opinion and I respect that. But dont try to take that innate dislike and try to paint him as anything but the player he is. He is a really good player. I understand not being a fan of Nady as he has been a fringe guy until 2007. I thought he was going to have an impact on 2009 while you thought he was gonna be terrible. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to prove either of us right, cause nobody could predict that he'd blow out his UCL throwing a ball in from the OF.

I don't know how this is anything but a good move. We get a player who will see MLB time for two players who were never going to. We hurt nothing about our farm system (NOTHING) and got a guy who is comparable to Nick Swisher in terms of overall production. He hasn't put together seasons like Swisher's best in Oakland, but he has steadily produced a positive WARP over the past few years and has never actively hurt his team (compare to Swisher's -0.5 WARP last year).

Again, we dealt nothing and got something. That's fine. Thanks Pittsburgh.

Hunter Strickland didn't have a lot of time to prove himself but he's more than "nothing."

Plenty more where he came from though.

Holy s*** what the f*** is it with you and mediocre prospects?

The kid was 20 YO and in his second full professional season, and had good command of a 93 MPH fastball. A bit early to anoint him a mediocre prospect wouldn't you say?

He's the kind of player you move in a deal like this sure -- but don't oversell it. He has a chance to make the show.

It adds depth and insurance. They might not be done though.

Boston's big acquisition could be a prelude to more moves for the AL Wild Card leaders. GM Theo Epstein said in a conference call this afternoon that his team will continue to be "very active" in discussions around the league, though he addressed the team's main need by adding Adam LaRoche.

When Lowell has a day off, who would you rather have filling in, Kotsay or Laroche?

LaRoche reaction

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff July 22, 2009 06:01 PM

Thoughts from Adam LaRoche, his brother, and others on his trade to Boston:

Adam LaRoche

“I’m excited to go to a great organization in a great baseball city and jump into a pennant race. I’m very thankful for the opportunity. It’s just a little tough for me right now because my little brother is here in Pittsburgh and it’s been a dream come true playing with him. It’s tough to leave him behind and a lot of other guys who have become really close friends. So, it’s mixed emotions, a lot of sadness and a lot of excitement all at the same time. On the whole, though, I know it’s a good move for me.”

Andy LaRoche

“It’s been a blast playing together with him, but how can I be upset? It’s a great deal for him. He’s going to what has to be the best organization in baseball. He’s got a great chance to not only get to the postseason but win a World Series. I just hope he gives me some of that money he makes from his post-season share.”

Pirates GM Neal Huntington

“I think he’s an ideal fit for their club, for what they’re looking for, and especially that ballpark. With the wall in left field so close, he’s going to stay on the ball longer and hit a lot of balls of the Green Monster. He has the perfect left-handed stroke for Fenway Park.”

Jason Bay, who played LaRoche in Pittsburgh

"His personality, he never has a huge sense of urgency in anything. That's the kind of a guy he is. He's been a good first baseman. It's been noted he gets off to some slow starts, so we're kind of picking him up on the upswing. He's got some pop in his bat. He plays a smooth first base."

Nick Green, who played with LaRoche in Atlanta

"We came up in the minor leagues together. He's a laid-back kind of guy. He ain't going to be in a hurry to do a whole lot. On the other hand, he's not dogging it. He's going to give you 100 percent."

Kotsay will get released. This is decent insurance for the cost of a couple of bags of balls. Still need some offense in the OF and a pitcher that can go deep into games. Cliff Lee maybe?

I'm a little weary of Lee. He has come back down to Earth this year. Not sure Lee is the right kind of pitcher for Fenway. But out of what's available he's near the top. He should cost lest the Halladay. Buchholz should not even be mentioned though.

Wrong.

He's perfect for Fenway, since he is, in fact, an EXTREME GB pitcher.

Since 2008, he's got a 1.12 GB/FB ratio, and over such a long sample size, it cannot be considered a fluke.

So, i fail to see reason for worry with Cliff Lee pitching here if it were to happen (slim chance).
