This is a really good move IMO. They get a 1b who isnt Aaron Bates or Jeff Bailey. A guy who has the capacity to hit 20+ homers and play fair to good D and a guy who gives insurance when Lowell's hip finally falls apart. And they do it without giving up any players who matters in their minors.

Nick Green can play the OF IIRC

he has a grand total of 8 OF innings in his career....theyve probably better off with Youk in the outfield in a pinch

im gonna go with you on this one i think its a very good deal, especially since the sox have plenty of trading chips left if they feel the need to make another move

Have you heard of any other ADD problems since the Nick Johnson play? Do you think it may be a problem?

Now, is this a move to put the sox over the top? Probably not. It is a depth move that has a chance of being an impact move if LaRoche gets it together in a pennant race. But these types of moves have potential impact from both the acquisition itself and the shakeup of the team.

I'm wondering if this deal gets finalized in time for him to be in uniform tonight. Do the players all have to have physicals and does the deal have to be approved by MLB?

They're adding a guy with a career .901 OPS after the all-star break. This could very well be a move to put them over the top.

Especially since no one will be running away with the division. 1 game could decide who goes to the playoffs.

LaRoche should also be extremely motivated by both the pennant race and the ability to raise his ability to cash in for next year.

taking into account ONLY his career second-half performance, we may have just acquired a middle of the order-caliber bat

You guys crack me up. Adam LaRoche??? I hope he is another trading chip. 247 hitter wtf?

.247 so far this year, he is a career .275 hitter he has big 2nd halfs that should bring up his avg. plus he will have better hitters around him here in boston so that should improve his numbers. you can choose to see a negative but LaRoche>Kotsay.

and he could very well be a guy who will thrive in a situation where he's actually playing for something for the first time in his career

You're funny. A guy who spent his entire career in NL East, as a fill-in behind Ortiz/Youk/Lowell is going to be a difference maker. Get real.

That said, the Red Sox gave up nothing to get nothing. This is like the Hinske deal for us. Hinske has done well so far, but he isn't the difference maker...and neither is LaRoche.

first off.....dumbass....NL Central

secondly, if Jason Bay could make the same transition seamlessly, why couldnt LaRoche?

Not being negative at all. It's just another hitter that hits under .250. You can look at second half stats all you want.

Youkilis struggles mightily

LaRoche learns to hit

Wakefield breaks a nail

How about we get some Mark Teixeira's? How about we get some Joe Mauers? You know guys that do their jobs from April-October without us having to look at what they do post all-star breaks.

Whoever labeled him a 'fill-in'? This isn't Jeff Bailey. At the very worst he's platooning with Lowell (in the order). I've heard of far less impressive platoon combos at the CIF spots.

Agree 100%. If the Redsox are banking on this guy then get your golf clubs ready. I think Theo knows this guy is a waffle and is just getting more trading chips.
