My guess is either Bowden or Delcarmen depending on what the Pirates are looking for.

But it's the Pirates so we probably ACTUALLY gave up Aaron Bates and Charlie Zink.q

That's good. So we probably gave up minor leaguers then

Interesting that we'd pick up a former Bay teammate mmm?

apparently they were drinking buddies in Pitt.

is this a move to apease Bay and make us better at the same time?

they are both FA at the end of this year however.

could split the difference and say it's a three player deal, Saito to third team, prospects from third team to Pittsburgh, LaRoche to Boston.

many Pirates were outspoken about how pissed off they are at management for the deals they've done lately so maybe LaRoche made it clear to their FO that he was gone at the end of the year no matter what so the Pirates settled for less than expected value

Well, it was a buy low. I think LaRoche is a FA after this season and he certainly isnt playing well right now. But he's capable of being a middle of the order bat when he's on, so it is a good move for the price and especially with Lowell being fragile.

I imagine that the Pirates aren't too displeased either. They gave up an impending FA for a fluid fielding shortstop who's close to the majors and a nice 20 year old starting pitching prospect.

diaz and strickland are not on the prospect map right now.

He also may be a Type B guy at the end of the year

Sox Trade for LaRoche! IU can't believe it - he sucks! We better not be giving up anything good for him - hopefully just a player to be named later or something.

LaRoche in probably means Kotsay out, right? maybe

.902 OPS in the second half, some insurance in our corner infields, his BA isnt great but he should bat like .280 for this second half to even out to his career numbers i think its an excellent acquisition.

im not an expert on this subject but what kind of draft picks would LaRoche net in return if he left after the season?

This is a definite Theo style move, middle of the road player that could potentially improve the team and certainly couldn't hurt.
