Really kinda surprised that Napoli was still there in the 4th round. he's not as big a name than Martin or McCann but he's got a ton of power and carries his weight defensively. He is a better overall hitter than Russel Martin right now, but Martin gets all the hype..

In 5 years he'll be at the latter end of his prime and probably still be putting up 20 HR's and a .340-.360 OBP. Not too freakin' bad for the catcher spot.

REALLY surprised that Doumit went before Napoli on this board considering how Napoli abuses Red Sox pitching.

Napoli is not a better overall hitter than Martin. He obviously has more power but Martin will have a much better average. Thing about Napoli is, he can never stay healthy and has a bad shoulder. That's only going to hurt his below average defensive abilities. It is nice to get 20 homers from a catcher though.

Batting average is a relatively poor basis of comparison. Martin does have a better OBP t han Napoli but Napoli wins everything back with slugging.

The plan is to pick up a nice defensive backstop and rotate Napoli in as a C/DH

Heh, the funny thing is if Jose Molina was abut 6 years younger he'd be more or less what I had in mind.

After I've got my lineup set I'll probably grab Yorvit Torrealba or someone like him. 20 HR catchers might be hard to find, but platoon/defense first catchers are not.

I don't know about. A catcher that plays as often as Martin does makes that high average for a catcher even more valuable.

Went with the 23 year old power hitting first baseman Chris Davis. He's not going to hit for a very high average but he's going to hit the **** out of the ball. Has a very good chance to be one of the few guys who can hit 50 hr's in the next 5 years. Should be able to reduce his very high strikeout numbers in time.

Don't have to tell you guys that shortstop is not a very deep position. Felt like I had to take Escobar. And with Davis gone, it wasn't much of a decision. I'll have to think long and hard about my next pick, though.

Chris Davis was an excellent selection.

Joakim Soria turns 25 next week, and is coming off a season where he saved 42 games and sported a 1.60 ERA. Career WHIP of less than 1, strikes out 9.4 batters per 9 innings.

Plus, how can you not love a guy whose nickname is the "Mexicutioner"?

I believe in Clay's stuff and really think he will be the deciding factor for the Sox this season.

Top of the rotation for me is high upside guys that are *this close* to putting it all together.

Bucholz is a good pick, you took for the same reasons i took Price so i can see your line of thinking.

Keeper's choice of Molina is a really good one.

Not only is Yadier Molina the best defensive catcher in the game today, but he's also on the rise offensively, he's of course also healthy, young, and durable.

Overall great pick this late in the draft.

Name that Molina! I took Yadier because he's arguably the best defensive catcher in the game, and he's starting to come around with the bat. I can live with the 95 OPS+ he had last year. And he's only 26. In fantasy, a catcher has very little value. In real life, a good catcher is essential. Especially if he can frame pitches... ;)

Not a sexy pick, but a practical one IMO.

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. For instance, someone picked Jorge Cantu to be his 3B. But Cantu doesn't play 3B anymore. Because he was awful.

It's your team' date=' you can play your guys where you see fit.[/quote']

How will the defense of out-of position players be measured then?

Posted

Went with Carlos Beltran because he does it all. Plays elite defense at an extremely important position, he gets on base, hits for power and steals bags efficiently. Only draw back is he just turned 32 last month I believe.

Minor note for Kilo: On the players picked page you spelled Davis' name wrong. Figured I would let you know in case someone does a search on him.
