there's still a month to be played but if Mauer dosent win it as it is now its a f***ing joke

It depends on how you define the MVP. I'll go on record saying that Mauer has been the best player in the AL hands down.

However, I think MVPs should go to playoff teams. Without that player, Team X doesn't make the playoffs, win the division, etc.

My two cents.

Without Joe Mauer, the Minnesota Twins are behind the KC Royals.

Off topic, sorry. Crespo, from what thread did you get your ORS quote signature? Classic stuff there.

Even Pie is starting to hit, just went yard for his 7th.

The Reds on the other hand, with the clutch, grit, tuff warriors of Baker, and Jocketty are a long way off from being competitive.

Dusty Baker and Walt Jocketty. I'm trying to think of a worse manager/GM combo in MLB...

To be fair, a completely healthy Reds team is not that bad.

But keeping a rotation healthy with Baker as manager is a risky proposition.

It says on the ballot that it doesn't have to go to a guy on a playoff team. In the past, players (Pedro Martinez and Hideki Matsui, for example) have lost awards because voters decided to re-define the rules.

They have some great pieces on both sides. Wieters' date=' Jones, Markakis, Reimold, Tillman, Matusz, etc...[/quote']

I like their OF to be the best in the majors within 3 years.

I think it should go to the best player. It's an individual award and team performance should have no influence.

By the way, looking at VORP it's Mauer by a long shot, then Jeter and Bartlett. Teixeira is 18th in the AL in VORP.

Cole Hamels pitched a complete game, two hit shutout tonight for the Phillies. In his last two starts he's pitched 17 shutout innings. Great news for the Phillies.

Can't believe Penny squeezed himself out of that jam in the 5th against the Phillies. He got some help with a nice catch by one of the Giants outfielders.

The NL's elite teams are often as good as the AL's elite - it's everyone after the top teams that are absolute s*** in AAAA baseball.

agreed. The Phillies, The Cardinals, The Rockies, The Dodgers, and maybe The Giants (only for the pitching) can all be pretty competitive. And im sure someone will talk about a few I missed but they are all good teams the rest all suck lol.

I'm not saying I disagree that the AL isn't overall, today, a bit stronger. But doesn't it change from decade to decade or sometimes even year to year, a bit? Making sweeping generalizations seems a bit...well, nvm. I know it's a lost cause to rationally debate anything like this on fan forums - any fan forums, not just here. :D

Of course it changes over the years. But currently the AL has a clear advantage.
