Again, why did we opt for Smoltz instead of Pedro? The age and time removed from surgery were factors that should have weighed heavily in Pedro's favor.

He wanted more than a $1 million deal. I'm sure he could've been convinced to take Smoltz's $5.5 million guarantee. No one offered anything close to that to Pedro. His guarantee with the Phillies is around $700k.

Pedro looks good early for Philly. His FB is consistently 91-92, hitting 93 a couple of times. He has 4 k's in three innings so far giving up 1 run.

I remember being told by a buddy of mine who got to see Pedro pitch for the Philly brass that he looked "fantastic" and that he even "hit 94 a couple times".

 

I was laughed at.
