Like I said, that travel schedule was ridiculous. No surprise they were almost no hit.

It doesn't matter if they're out of contention, those series were scheduled back to back already. They had an 'off day' before the Tampa series, and went straight to Seattle. Wouldn't it have made sense to put the off day between the two series?

I'm not claiming it's a thing that only happens to the Yankees, but the fact that it happens at all is terrible.

Good news? Hughes threw 8 shutout innings with 11 K's and reportedly was throwing 92-94 all game long. He's starting throwing a cutter too.

I'll take that over a win with the Yankees at this point. Good to hear.

GM has done a great job. Still defending this prick?

Injuries had nothing to do with it at all. All Cashman's fault.

Patriots lost Tom Brady for the season today. If they miss the playoffs, make sure you blame Belichick.

Football is different than baseball. Also, with the Yankees payroll advantage, injuries should never be an issue. Even with a healthy team, this team wasn't going to catch the Sox or the Rays. Let's not forget, those teams had injuries too. When you build a team on older players, you will have a greater preponderance of injured players.

Gom is dumb

You support a GM who has done nothing whatsoever in the draft in his career and has run a world series winner into 4th place. Not only that, but the Yankees do not look like they will get out of this hole next season either. Think about this: If not for the free agent market, and throwing millions of dollars MORE than he would have just to raise them to potential contention, the Yankees would have no chance due to their abysmal job in re-stocking their farm system. He has to do what I've been saying he needed to do, but he'll have to spend more than he would have, while having lost one season, and quite possibly two or more, and hoping that someone will take his money. Have you ever thought what would happen if Sabathia, Tex, and Sheets signed....elsewhere? Then you'd see how good Cashman's plan and implementation really is.

It's obvious you're the smart one. Thank God the Yankees aren't in last place. If they were, you're claim would be that I'm retarded. It seems the worse the job your GM does, the dumber I am for calling him to task.

The Yankees never win again with Cashman as the GM.

You guys are acting like this is completely over. I would say this looks almost dire for any other team, but with this line-up, a wild card spot is still very doable. We're 8.5 games out with 19 remaining. 3 of those are against the team we're chasing, Boston. If we sweep them, that puts us only 5.5 games out. That means we just have to gain 5.5 games on them between now and the beginning of that series (16 games) and then sweep them to end the regular season.

It's been close the last few years, but I just don't see a scenario where we miss the play offs. October was made for the Yankees, always was, always will.

I love the optimism in that quote. In years past that's how I would be viewing the current scenario, but you have to be realistic and look at the big picture here. It's a shame, but the Yankees will be playing their last game EVER at Yankee Stadium on September 21st, 2008.

well didnt belichek keep matt cassell as a backup?

did the gm not fortify the qb position leaving us with the f***bags like chris sims and whoever else cant find a job in this league??

They didnt plan and ya,to a certain extend if this team fails it fails cause we dont have a qb and the front office should be held accountable for matt cassell being the go to guy now that brady is out.

Cassel hasnt started a game since 1999 when he was in high school and now he has the best offense in NFL history to play with....and many are calling the season over already.

The 2008 New York Yankees are done.

With Cashman as GM, get used to saying that in 2009, 2010, 2011...etc.

Right because this isn't his first year missing the playoffs or anything like that...

Haha I know. I was just using your post as a chance to say that I (I believe I'm the only one here has hasn't) have given up on this season in terms of them making the playoffs.

Not for that reason. It's that he can't draft, he can't sign the right free agents, and he is unwilling to trade s***** young players for good/excellent veterans. Those are the reasons. If you'd actually watched them play, you'd realize this.
