...and whoever's playing the Yankees - 2008 Game Thread

Not for that reason. It's that he can't draft' date=' he can't sign the right free agents, and he is unwilling to trade s***** young players for good/excellent veterans. Those are the reasons. If you'd actually watched them play, you'd realize this.[/quote']

I do watch them play.

Look, this has been a never ending debate between the two of us that has spilled over into a few different threads. He had a rough year this year. That goes without saying. Not pulling the trigger for Santana, especially considering what the Twins wanted, is a mistake that is unforgivable.

I'm not going to get into his past successes, because no matter what you say you know that no matter what the payroll is making the playoffs every single year is not easy.

However, I'll just say that you shouldn't start giving up on the future, because they have solid players on the roster right now, and hopefully there are more to come.

Good news? Hughes threw 8 shutout innings with 11 K's and reportedly was throwing 92-94 all game long. He's starting throwing a cutter too.

Way to focus on the positive jacko! Beware the 2009 NYY!:lol:

Exactly. So...like Hank said, this season is on Cashman. I wish I could wish him luck in Seattle next season.

as a sox fan i do love the fact that the dump on jerome avenue is closing with no fan fare but rather a 4th place finish

LMAO! Me too Seany. And not b/c of the team etc necessarily, but the f***ing "FANS!" STFU ALREADY!

At the time' date=' the pen was awesome. What's your point?[/quote']

You didn't just talk about how good the pen was. You talked about the Yankees being better than the Red Sox. Here's the thing Gom. You have absolutely no credibility. Why you ask? Well, it's pretty simple. You praise the Yankees when they're doing well, and you bash them when they're doing poorly.

When they came out hot after the ASB, if you had said that they're not a good team and whatever else, then you would have more credibility.

You have to see this...

At the time, they were. Credibility? Get real.

For a million dollars plus a year, it's Cashman's job to be accountable. I'm a fan. I'll support them either way, but I'll praise them when they are doing well [weird, right] and I'll bash them when they are doing poorly [amazing, huh?].

I've been consistent in saying that they should have gotten Santana in trading the younger s***** pitchers. I've been consistent in saying that Cashman has made poor pitching decisions. I bashed Cashman in signing Hawkins over Mahay, in picking up Igawa over Lilly. I advocated trading Kennedy and Melky for Santana...how's that looking now?

All the Cashman butt-humpers think it will be a walk in the park, that we can just sign anyone we want at any price. Well, let's see it. When you're a winning team, players want to come to play for the Yankees. When you're not, you have to overpay to get the stars, which is what they are going to have to do.

For all the draft pick IDIOTS...if you sign a Type A free agent...you lose draft picks. So...wait a sec...hang on here...almost there....

Why not trade them anyways?

If you sign Sabathia, you lose a first round pick, plus the Brewers get a supplemental pick between the 1st and 2nd round. So you know what? Why not TRADE for him and keep your pick? Wouldn't that be better than risking it? You know who was a supplemental pick for the Yankees? Kennedy. So why not trade him? The truth is, at the end of the World Series, I'll create my plan for the Yankees. I can guarantee you that Cashman, if he's still here, won't follow it, and the Yankees will miss out on the playoffs again. Like I said, we'll never win with that idiot running the team. Trust me, no one more than me would like to be proven wrong on this. I'd gladly take the ribbing of my Cashman error if the Yankees win the World Series.

I can't see how anyone with a double-digit IQ actually thinks that Cashman is doing a good job. Take a look at the standings if you think he's doing a good job.

I am surrounded by idiots who can't comprehend the most simple of thoughts.

So I was bored today and happened to be reading through a game thread from July and I came across this post.

I don't get how you can shred Cashman for drafting so poorly, which he does, but want him to keep the pick. To make your argument worse, you actually think that the draft pick has comparable value to a player that has already played at the MLB level, despite the fact that its not a good one in Kennedy.

Given Cashman's draft track record, he's more likely to draft the next CJ Henry, rather than Joba Chamberlain.

I think the Yankees f***ed up, and should have traded for Santana, but he wasn't saving this godawful team.

Ah, the old "get a life" insult. Very original. Where in the world did you come up with that one?

Gom, I understand you're a fan, and you have every right to act like one. The only thing is that either you thing the team is poorly constructed or not. Whether they're playing well at a given time or whether they're playing poorly at a given time really has no bearing on how well constructed the team is.

EDIT: I had spare time between my morning classes, I was bored, and I was on talksox when there wasn't much activity. I went back through a couple old game threads...

again, another post that lacks thought. CASHMAN DOESNT DRAFT!. The scouting director does. Since the new scouting director took over, the yankee drafts have been solid.

Hahah too bad the Stadium isn't on Jerome

Funny though....and even still, September 21st will be a celebration of Yankee history as the cathedral closes it's doors.

That's the point I tried making like a week ago in another thread...people don't seem to realize this. They must think that in addition to handling the day-to-day activities of the team that the GM goes out and scouts every amateur player and is the one with the last word on every pick come draft day.

My mistake. I was under the impression that the General Manager would play a role in the most crucial part of his team's future.

What the f***?

No, I was saying that the General Manager would play a role in his team's picks. Like Billy Beane does in Oakland. Not all of them, but Beane knows the players enough to make an argument why they should pick him.

I honestly didn't even see your post, I was just agreeing with what Jacko said.

So what exactly does a GM do? Set up hotel reservations?

Cashman's job description is the same as every other GM. He has more money to do it with than any other, and the result is 4th place, with two teams [Tampa and Toronto] who combined, would have less of a payroll than the Yankees.

Be gone.

Cashman does terrible things with the minor league system through drafting and international free agent signings. This is why the Yankees minor league system ranks 5th in baseball.

That seems right. 5th in the minors, 4th in the AL East. Anything else?
