split vs the angels with their best pitcher throwing and our best starters either out (Wang) or scheduled to pitch after the series (Joba). I'll take a split vs the best team in baseball when both Rasner and Ponson throw in the series. Damn, that is awesome.

Now for the momentum on the road. Go to Texas, Joba, Pettitte, and Ponson.

Man, I'd be happy if I was 2.5 games out of a playoff spot, too.

16 of the next 19 on the road...huge stretch for the Yanks.

we arent the red sox. We actually dont suck every time we play outside of home.

4 in Texas with Joba, Pettitte, Ponson and Mussina going. I like our chances of taking 3 of 4

In Anaheim, we have Rasner, Joba and Pettitte, likely take 1 of 3. Then a 3 gamer in Minny, a team we seem to own every yr. We should come out with at least a .500 roadie.

Plus, I dont think Rasner makes another start. Either Geise will move to the rotation or IPK will be back. The bloom is off the rose for Rasner. Rasner got by with great location in his first 4 starts. Ever since, he is leaving his pitches up and getting behind in counts. Bad news for a guy with fringe stuff.

The Yankees are an average team on the road and a slightly above average team at home.

The Sox, while having some road struggles this season, have been fantastic at home.

I'd take the latter and the 2.5 game lead, but that's just me.

The Yankees aren't an average team on the road. They have the 5th best road record in the MLB.

Relative to other teams, they are good on the road, but 25-24 is awfully average as a whole.

Second best record in the AL on the road. So not mediocre. 10 games over at home, good for 5th in the AL. Again, not mediocre.

The Sox? 2nd best record at home, excellent. 10th best record in the AL at home (worst in the ALE). Putrid. Saying the sox have "struggles" on the road is like saying the red sox had some mild struggles from 1918-2003

I bet you wish the sox were average on the road.

Yes, I do. However, even with being "terrible" on the road, and with the Yankees being "very good" on the road and at home, they are still 2.5 back of the Sox.

Your attempts at trolling make me laugh, I enjoy them.

As for the Sox 24-32 road record, the Red Sox have lost their last 14 road decisions! You don't think there's some luck involved with that?

The Red Sox haven't won a road 1-run game since April 1.

I am not trolling. I am pointing out a truth. The sox are untouchable at home, they are bad on the road.

The yankees are good at home and good on the road.

...and 2.5 games out of a playoff spot.

loss column is all that matters. 2 out. Hell' date=' we took 2/4 vs the Halos after you guys got swept by them, then we took 2 of three in your house. 2 games out isnt too bad considering.[/quote']

Until you win that game in hand, it's 2.5

PS this is discussion we can be having in my thread in the Sox forum

The amount of times that Jacko and Gom gave up in this thread is kind of funny. Anyway, whoever complained about not going to Rivera in the 8th, he was suffering from back spasms.

For what it's worth, the Red Sox are clearly in a better position than the Yankees, I don't see how that can be argued...

The Red Sox are two and a half games better in the standings. The Yankees have a ton of road games coming up and they still have to play six games in Anaheim. Honestly, I'm still paying more attention to the Rays than I am to the Red Sox (in terms of who I think they can overtake in the standings).

They are 24-32 on the road and a big part of that has been the 2-14 record in 1-run games away from home. Many of those are from mid-April through mid-June when the back end of the bullpen couldn't hold a lead to get the ball to Papelbon. In some of the others it was a lack of offense. That bullpen appears to be stabilizing, the offense has had Ortiz return and Lowrie replace Lugo. So, while the record is not pretty, it also appears to hold very little predictive value.

You are right when you dont take into account the fact that we are playing much better baseball now. We would have said the same thing the past 2 yrs excepting the fact that the yankees were hot in the second half

Posted
then what about losing 2/3 to the yankees and getting swept by the angels at home?

That's terrible baseball - the difference is I can admit it.

Records last 6 games:

Yankees 3-3

Red Sox 3-3

the big difference being you're saying the Yankees are playing good baseball, no one here is saying the Sox have been playing good baseball

the sun shines brighter on mj when the sox and yanks have identical weeks

the fact that the yanks lost 1.5 games on the sox since manny left doesnt enter the discussion.

the yanks are playing well and marte should help them

however

their pitching will still be their downfall and they did nothing to improve it unless you consider trading their set up guy for a catcher with 5hrs as an improvement.

i dont know why they did that unless they felt that farnsworth was about to break down.

Since the AS break' date=' the yankees are 11-5. Not too shabby[/quote']

Since opening day, the Red Sox are 64-48

I can cherry pick, too.
