For a moment I had actually wanted to give Francona a mental high five when he stormed out of the dugout and took the ball from that piece of s*** Piniero. He looked animated and pissed off at the same time. I guess he saw what the rest of us have seen all spring---that this guy is garbage warmed over. Hang 'em and bang em Piniero. However' date=' he resorted to his usuall dumbass self an inning later when he gave Wily Mo a chance to strike out again. Mission accomplished. [b'] Was there any better way to make all of us sicker than we were[/b]?

How about the idea that you need to take 2 in a row in KC not to lose your opening series, against the lowly Royals.

Seriously, it's one game.

And as "bad" as the bullpen was, it was still 2 runs in 5 innings. Not awful.

Granted, I didn't see any of the game past the second inning, but the blame for this one really needs to go on the offense and #38, not Tito or the pen.

it was 4IP but no they werent bad.

Here is the list of awful-

Manny, but who cares, back of baseball card...

Lugo, 3K's until he got a single when it didnt matter.

Varitek, just absolutely awful

Coco, see above.

Schilling, just terrible.

Pineiro, was amazingly awful.

the rest werent too bad.

Only actually caught bits and pieces of this one, mostly because of Passover. Not too upset about that.

Try again tomorrow...

Errrr Sorry CD, you and the rest of us have to wait an extra day for possible redemption.

Just one game . Seasons just starting they will come around remember wankees lost first three to kc to start season last year .

I'm worried for the one time Tito decides that "its ok to go two innings this game, It's only once, we need to win"

Then a few days later " well i did it once, and it worked well, this game is important"

And then a spiral starts.

E.D., sounds like you have as much confidence in Tito as most of us here do. What you said should never ever ever happen and Theo, Larry, John and the rest of the heirarchy must make that very clear to FrancoMa. Of course, if would be so swell if I could see Paps in there tomorrow in the ninth inning protecting a one or two run lead for us.

Aside from his bullpen usage, I really have no complaints about the way Francona manages.

He handles the pressure from the media well.

He has a good relationship with his players.

His lineups (for the most part) make sense, although i wish he didn't hit Tek 6th so much last year.

I agree, yesterday was not Terry's fault, unless you wanna say he should have took Schill out earlier than he did... besides that, Schill couldn't pitch and Meche was pretty unhittable, I guess when a guy is on, hes on... the Sox also made dumb base running errors...

My Tito bashing contribution for the week:

From watching the game Monday it certainly seemed like the team was not ready for the season. I only say it SEEMED that way. Tito is a big "players" manager and he certainly gave these guys an easy time in March. McEwing played in every game this spring and he's not even on the team. It's obvious Tito wants to avoid injury, but hitters have to face live pitching and it seems like they'll spend the next few games getting up to speed.

no, it was truly a good, thought out post and I could read it. No s***.[/QUOT

the article makes it sound like tito is only gonna trust paps and timlin in big situations. is it just me or does it seem like he pays to much attention to the hype. our bullpen is supposed to suck so only papelbon and timlin are trustworthy, even though thus far the bullpen has looked pretty solid

Tito not PH'ing late in the game down just 2 runs was awful.. keeping Belli in after Wake is gone is poor too.

As for bullpen usage.. its hard to say yet..

the pen thus far has been great

hes overused timlin since he arrived

timlin has a ton of innings under his hat and may have had it,the wbc last year didnt help

paps??

i just would tread with caution i guess

Ok, I'll take the bait. Tito's decision to stick with Pineiro to pitch to Lofton while the lefty Lopez was ready in the pen makes little sense. Then Tito brings in Lopez to pitch to the righty pinch hitter Cruz, who smoked the first pitch to Youk. THEN Tito brings in Paps to pitch to Young and get the last 5 outs. Tito almost blew this one big. If Cruz's line drive hit gets by Youk it's a one run game with bases loaded and no outs. Why warm up Lopez if he didn't want to use him againt the lefty Lofton? And then he uses Lopez to pitch to a righty with Paps ready to go in the pen. What's the difference in using Paps for 5 outs or 6 outs. Tito is more lucky than good.

Tito has been very good with the shifting of the rotation. Schilling, Beckett and soon Matsuzaka will have started 3 games, while Tavarez still just 1. He's managed around the rain outs very well.

The assist to Mother Nature.

At least he realizes that Tavarez sucks and is just skipping his starts, haha...

I was about to say the same thing. Every manager would have done the exact same thing as Tito has done with the rotation. He gets zero props there.

Tuesday night in Toronto in the 7th. Tito lets WMP face a righty (flies out to right on the first pitch) rather than pinch hit Drew. Is he paying attention? Can't Brad Mills shake some sense into him?
