Cashman (to Chris) : "Don't embarass yourself."

And he brought up Wang...who Mad Dog said was going to be a back of the rotation pitcher.

Wang will only look like a back of the rotation pitcher when he faces teams like the Red Sox ... or any other team with good patience.

I think the Webb comparision is a little off base.

Wang - 3.77 ERA

Webb - 2.74 ERA

Wang - 9.53 H/9

Webb - 8.66 H/9

Wang - 2.74 K/9

Webb - 6.72 K/9

Wang - 1.27 WHIP

Webb - 1.14 WHIP

The kid's a good #3 or #4, but he isn't dominant by any stretch of the imagination.

Wang lacks the secondary pitches Webb has however if you take Webb out of the NL West and you put him in the AL East those numbers would be closer.

If Wang can get away with not striking anyone out in the AL, Webb would probably be fine making the transition. I'd say Webb's a low 3.00 ERA pitcher in the AL East.

Wang's good, but c'mon, Brandon Webb? I'd say Derek Lowe.

It is quite remarkable how he doesnt strike anyone out yet he still wins and has a good ERA. Hes among the best in SLG against. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

You are 100% correct.

I think, don't quote me on this, but he is the MLB leader in lowest LD%. When batters make contact it usually isn't hard.

Thank god he doesnt make 35 starts against the Red Sox a year right?

Yes, but he will make some of the most important starts of his career against the Red Sox.

He did pretty well against the Sox in his last start against him (7.0 IP, 1 ER) and his first start against them was a decent one, considering their offense (5.0 IP, 3 ER.) Of course there was one pretty bad start sandwiched between those two.

I'm not saying we will blow up Wang every time. I just see him as a pitcher that needs hitters to chase him out of the zone, and I see the Sox as a very patient team. When those 2 things mix ... pitchers might not let up a lot of runs ... but more times than not you'll get into that bullpen early. Like that 5.0IP start you stated.

WOW I dont post on YES much but one of the last posts I made was on Bubba Crosby:

"Bubba Crosby is pure trash. He cant hit a lick and hes overrated in the field."

A poster there quoted me, put that in his sig and had the nerve to call me dumb. ROFL

I'm suprised Torre started Bernie over Wilson. Wilson has a rather large lead in OPS vs RHP over Bernie.

That surprised me too. I expected to see him at 1B and Giambi as the DH.

Did he just get in today or something?

I expected the samething. I doubt it, its just Torre being loyal to his veterans. You know the usual stuff.

WHOA did I just hear that Sheffield said that he will take ground balls at 1st base and that he has no problems with the trade for Abreu?????? I'm sure that will last a couple of minutes however its quite weird that he hasnt blown up yet.
