A Realistic View at the 2026 Red Sox Part II

It feels like fans and writers all make the same mistake. It's like players are either stars, or they are bums. Hamilton is the same player he's always been. Either a low-end starter or a very high-end UIF. Much like Sogard, Seigler, and Money. -
I'm not sure MLB is intent on a cap. There are 5 super-cap team, plus 4 expensive teams. Why should 21 teams go on strike to help cap 9 teams? And those five top teams pay almost a half-billion in CBT. And the lower ten teams probably just want to share the top team's revenue. I think the owners want to make more money, but I think they will push a cap as long as they can, and then settle on winning several smaller battles.

I'm very pro-review in its current format, but that's not a knock on the umpires. The chances of getting every pitch right is essentially -0-. If we can spend an extra 2 minutes a game (sponsored Draftkings) getting 6 important pitches right, I think it is a slam-dunk. And no one mentions it, but it has worked so well, that I wouldn't even bother using it fulltime.

I've never seen it work. I've seen batters cut down, but then lose some of their aggressiveness. PCA has moved in a positive direction, maybe Ceddanne can follow. Even a marginal improvement each year would be big.

I'm hoping that's the song they play when he enters the game. Even the non-musical part 'Eli's comiiiiiiing'. Unfortunately, we have no one the 40 for 'Jose's on his way'.

But is Fred a pessimist, or a troll? He doesn't discuss things like most fans. He often comes in here when we are losing to say "I just happened to catch some of the Red Sox game and....", almost like he trade marked that phrase. Just imho, he's here to annoy people. Feel free to disagree.

Outside of the pitch clocks, and the limited time between innings, this is the best thing I can remember baseball doing in a long time. I find it exciting to to play along to see what I'd have challenged, what's too early, what's too close, etc. In addition, the way they present it on TV is great. They show you ball or strike, and how close it was. And basically, if you can get it right, why not get it right?

One of my favorite moments in college was when the law professor used my answer in a test as an example of getting the question wrong, as it related to the final answer, but having done a great job in citing different laws, context etc. He literally spent 10 minutes discussing my answer. Then the SOB gave 5 points of a possible 25 for the answer,.

In your more challenging classes, you also don't get an A for supplying superficial and obvious answers. MVP pointed out his progressive K-rates. That'll get you credit. K/W will get you credit. Hot & cold zones, loft, EV, swing speed, will all get you credit. "Him strike out much" might get you a 'present' in the attendance log.

There are likely a couple of fans in here that can recite his OPS by hot & cold zones. And I've often said that I'd never throw a first-pitch strike to Ceddanne, Story, and Duran, and probably never throw a strike to Story.

I've seen this in all sorts of things. People find out things that they should've known far earlier, and then excitedly tell others about their 'discovery'. It's kind of cute, and happens to everyone.

My point was that he has a 2-game hitless streak. IRT streakiness, I not seeing it. His worse month was May, with a .695 OPS. I compared him to Ceddanne, whose worse month was April with a .712. Then Bellinger because Ceddanne should have gotten the AS nod over him. Bellinger has had months of .664 and .654. Then I compared Abreu to the Cubs, because they were in an article this morning. Their worse months: Happ .648 PCA .669 Suzuki .551

IMO, they shouldn't. Teams should need motivation to finish with the best record they can. It makes no difference in this case, but if the ALW winner and the RS were tied, then the ALW winner should need to consider playing everyone in the last week instead of resting everyone.

That was a pretty impressive analysis. Thanks. Knowing nothing about SLC, how does the alcohol thing work? Can they sell at the stadium? Can they advertise gambling?

Excellent, data-driven article. Just imvho, as good as PCA is, I don't think the gap between him and Ceddanne is that big. Maybe he gets dinged because of a few weak games in the first week or two, but he's close to flawless.

Of all the dumb rabbit holes that Fred has stumbled into, this is among the worst. Ceddanne is the #2 CF in baseball.

I used to have Yankee season tickets, and chopped them up between friends. You've never seen anything more unpopular than an early-April, Tuesday night against KC. People wouldn't even bother to ask about some of those games. Take 6 off the last week of September and 6 off the first week of April. Add another week of playoff games.

I think he threw 32 pitches in four innings after his slow start.

Only Fred can complain about a 3-4, 2 RBIs, and a SB.

It can't last much longer. He's already up to a 2-game hitless streak. That might be the new MLB record.
