    Miller had had an ERA < 4.00 three straight seasons. I hope for more, but he still has a career 3.04/3.64 ERA/FIP, over a 130 IPs. That's fairly legit.

    I think there are numerous ways to get around a hard cap. Keeping the CBT caps the same is like a 15%++ savings to the owners due to inflation. The owners (imo) are looking to consolidate the entire broadcast revenue stream, which I think will mean a substantial revenue increase. An international draft.

    Position players-Rutschman, Contreras, Mead, Arias, Durbin, Anthony, Ceddanne, Abreu, Yoshida Bench-Wong, Duran, Monasterio, Story Rotation-Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Bennett, Bello, BP-Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Weissert, Guererro, Miller, Moran, Oviedo Other 14 slots-Samaniego, Kelly, Gamboa, Rivera, Cheng, KC, Gaspar + 8 Even with the Rule 5 guys, I see no way we find 8 other guys more valuable than Casas.

    We have 6 guys on the 40 that were either picked up for free, or cost almost nothing. Casas has a career .800 OPS. Casas might be traded cheap, but he is not being released to keep players on the waiver wire.

    That's actually an interesting question. So far as I know, in the regular season, you can only carry 13 pitchers. Does that mean you can only carry 13 hitters?

    That's the beauty of baseball. No one knows if a player is simply on a good run, or if he is simply becoming the player he was always destined to be.

    The concept of 'under-valued' fluctuates. Some under-valued concepts get hot, and when everyone jumps on the bandwagon, they become over-valued. The accountants crunching the numbers can easily miss that the rest of the league is bidding up the same values. I'm not sure if any single concept works consistently.

    W/L is a past-tense measurement. Py W/L is predictive. It's like picking a stock based on past performance, or current circumstances.

    I'd offer him arb. It's only about $1M. His potential is worth the cost, and probably the roster spot.

    I always remind people that for every Acuna that might underprice himself, there is always someone that gets injured or hits the wall. I remember Hinske discussing that a long time ago. If I were a player, I'd always lock in my arb years in exchange for giving up a FA year.

    Of course we don't know what he'd accept. But I've had these discussions in my own life. No one knows what a counterparty will accept. Maybe we offer $80M/4, and he says not close, but willing to counter. Or he says he wants $200M/8 and we part company. My philosophy is that you might always be closer than you think. IRT hitting, I am usually much more concerned about age than reversions. When a player has a 115 career OPS+, and has a current year 115 OPS+, I tend to think he is a 115 OPS+ hitter. FWIW, I see AR as a Realmuto close. I don't expect we'd lose on a 4-year age 30-33 contract, though it might take a 5th year.

    I consider it MY money. The more efficiently we handle our payroll, the more talent we can buy with our payroll. I like AR, and said he might be the best all-around catcher in BB, before the trade. But now I am explaining reasons why AR might want to extend, rather than gamble down the road.

    Basically everyone but Bello is available. Gutsy move keeping Chapman on the bench last night. Had Moran blown the lead, this site would be awash with threads demanding Tracy's firing.

    The whole idea of extending him now would be to get a discount. He lacks leverage right now. He's injured. He's playing well, but coming off of two weak-ish seasons. If (and I seriously doubt they will) BB shuts down for a year, and they don't grant any service time, then he becomes a FA in 2029. At age 31. The RS still have to offer fair money, but I'd bet he'd be inclined to take the safe route.

    Nothing has been talked about, that we know of. Breslow says nothing to anyone, and he is a relative gossip columnist compared to Manfred.

    Money is an issue; the individual salaries are not. We're spending $275M this year, and if nothing changes, we will be spending $275M in two years. And that will provide us with $157M to spend. It is the $157M that counts.

    Run differential and Py W/L is settled science. Take any team, at the end of April, with a actual v Py W/L difference of 100 percentage points. I will gladly bet that they will play closer to their Py W/L than their actual record for the remainder of the season.

    IMHO, this was the Sandoval we expected. It just took longer than expected. The surgery should've knocked him out for 14 months + some rust, and that was just an internal brace. He was out over 2 years. If he had come back in April, he'd be a legitimate QO candidate (and might still be if he can continue).

    Take a look at the Philly SP splits. When Wheeler, Sanchez, and Luzardo pitch, they're as good as anyone in BB. If anyone else starts, they almost never win.

    he has seen a massive decline in his batting average (.261 to .200), It should be noted that the BA of .200 comes with an incredibly low .136 BABIP. I agree with resting both him and Ceddanne, but the average is likely not a good reason why.
