  1. For the record, Priester looked worse than the likes of Kyle Harrison and Dustin May when we traded for him. Teams don't just trade for a stat line on a piece paper, or a 3 month track record nor do they trade for a what a guy did while playing away. They're trading for what they think they can turn a guy into. I don't see many people complaining about Lucas Giolito, who was a signing not a trade but still they thought they could get him right. Eliminate a pitch, add a cutter, add some velo, mix up the pitch mix, change an arm angle. Teams look at guys differently than us. They also must see the forest for the trees, which us as fans often do not.
  2. Brewers are good at taking pitchers and making them better, kind of like the Rays. At the end of the day, Priester returned us more value than we spent on him. You do that on every trade, you're going to come out on top in the long run.....even if Priester turns out to be a stud, which he may not. Lets see how he does in the long term. We also have no idea what we have in John Holobetz, Marcus Phillips, or Yophery Rodriguez yet. And we probably won't for years to come.
  3. Story atrocious start is still suppressing his overall stat line. since June 1st he’s batting .290 with a 130 WRC+ and an .853 ops and 7th in the AL in RBIs overall. his offense is great, just need him to stay healthy. My only would be if he could only walk a bit more.
  4. Taking a guy who is one of the worse starters in baseball this season and replacing him with a serviceable starter is saying a whole lot. it’s not the guy behind Crochet I wanted but it’s certainly an upgrade to the rotation. Or bullpen.
  5. Velocity has been creeping back up the last few starts. Away home splits? Wanna use those, well his expected HR% would have been the lowest at Fenway. offspeed stuff is still decent, velo is returning, with some reasonable projection he’s probably a huge upgrade over Buehler right now.
  6. Well, it’s the roster he’s been given, and he has to play these guys. So that actually makes a lot of sense.
  7. I’m a huge fan of judging a trade on its merits alone. I don’t think we should consider what happens after a contract expires to be a grading factor. what if they extend him in lieu of someone else who ends up performing much better? Doesn’t make sense to assign a higher grade in that scenario but we do. my two cents
  8. No, I think he was playing match ups like he loves to do. He then pinch hit for Toro when a lefty came in. while he’s taking a step back, for about a month Toro was hitting RHP.
  9. It was nice to see the Yankees deadline acquisitions blow up melt down and lose them a game. cashmans balls just got deflated.
  10. The package for Ryan was Tolle, Arias, Garcia+ honestly, if the Twins said no I don’t blame Breslow from walking away. FWIW no one was able to trade for Ryan, as a matter of fact a lot of the high end starters I thought might be available didn’t go anywhere at the deadline. i don’t want a GM/POBO who makes a move just to make a headline, if the price was really that high, so high a lot of other teams weren’t trading for elite starting pitching, then I can forgive. but there were 1b/C who went at the deadline who would have been upgrades, and weren’t going to cost you Tolle. Are they banking on Cambell coming back up soon?
  11. Dustin May was a top prospect at one point. Have to think the Sox see something in him that can be fixed. that would be fine but…..he’s a rental. By the time they “fix” him if he is fixable he will probably be elsewhere. id love to be proven wrong and see the Sox help him put it all together but it’s certainly a very underwhelming move.
  12. Watch all this talk about the Sox not doing anything and they go out and get the best pitcher at the deadline. and I bet people will still complain
  13. Literally almost the entire starting pitcher market is unmoved so far.
  14. Doesn’t have to be straight up, most deals aren’t. I thought I read somewhere that the Sox specifically don’t like Salas
  15. I thought I heard the Sox don’t like Salas
  16. Oh I’m sorry, I thought you meant they were making zero moves.
  17. If we want to talk about impact of trade that’s a different discussion, but saying we are done and only making 1 trade is an entirely different thing. they’ll probably make 2 more trades, at least, by the end of the day
  18. And they made like 5 moves or so, not one.
  19. Ok, A majority, and yes the Sox always seem to be in that boat with 1/2 the league.
  20. If not buying was a sign they don’t think this team is good enough why wouldn’t they be selling off pieces? either way, you can’t believe the Sox will make zero other trades. small or large, another move(s) is coming.
