  1. Toro shouldn't be playing every day, he should be platonning with Gonzalez who can also play other positions all over the diamond. Gonzalez isn't clogging the roster and you'd have to clear up a space for Toro if you went out and traded for someone anyways. Toro is 28, in his prime, and I agree he's probably a one year wonder here but so what I'd ride it all year long. I think it's perfectly reasonable to bet he can continue hitting better from the left side this year. His combined efforts with Romy at 1B are already pretty good. How much better of an upgrade is out there than that???? Marginal at best, and lets be honest, you only have so many bullets to spend. We aren't going to the grocery store and checking every item off the list and I'd put many other needs well ahead of finding a slugging 1b right now. If living with a Toro/Romy platoon allows me to go out and get a #2, a reliever and a back up catcher I'm happy to have that at 1B.
  2. No really ranked, as I eluded my order isn't important. But for the reasons I stated above I'd argue it's a huge need.
  3. A power bat would be nice, but where are you going to put him? I feel like you'd get a marginal upgrade somehwhere at best. Of course, Story could always turn back into a pumpkin or an injury could necessitate a need somewhere but I wouldn't undervalue a back up catcher. Wong has really regressed this year, and Narvaez will break down at some point given his current usage. If they lose him things could completely hit a wall and get ugly. I'd love to jump out in front of that problem and get a good catcher to split duty with Carlos
  4. When I said this is the type of the guy the Sox should be looking for, it didn't necessarily mean the top top of the market. But I would like to see a bullpen arm of a higher caliber than we have seen at the deadline the last few years.
  5. I kindly disagree, good relief pitching is at the top of every teams shopping list with playoff ambitions.
  6. On the last soxprospects podcast they eluded to Tolle rising to #3 in the system. Mayer and Anthony will not graduate for another month, so this means that when they do Tolle should be the #1 prospect in our system. If nothing else changes we will have 6 of our top 10 prospects be starting pitchers. Breslow certainly can't take all the credit but he's definitely helped continue and add momentum to the Sox initiative to improve the development of pitchers in the organization.
  7. You know what? I do too. To me, I think BA is clearly a step above MLB.com but I don't think MLB is garbage either.
  8. The Toro and Gonzalez platoon at 1B has been working out fine. Feels like their combined efforts has actually given them more at that position than they've had in a while. I also think Gonzalez can have a future on this roster, seeing how Refsnyder is retiring. I'd like to see him get some reps in LF and add that to his repertoire. But that can wait until the offseason.
  9. Breslow has made a couple of bad moves, but he's made more than enough good ones to make up for it. If you make a lot of moves you will have a few blunders, the right idea is to have the Cojones to make moves and live with the bad to get the good....which Breslow apparently has this ability
  10. In my opinion if the Sox want to make a run their priorities should be 1. A solid backup catcher 2. Relief pitching 8th inning guy 3. A #2 starter You can totally change my mind on the order of priority.
  11. I use BTV all the time, I love it, but I'll be the first to admit it's highly flawed. I believe how someone like Chapman would be valued at the deadline is probably about as good of an example as you could ever have of this. It's tough, long term horizon having the opportunity to bring in the value that Chapman would command is tempting. You make enough moves like that and you can complete build a farm system. On the other hand, Chapman is the exact type of guy I'd want to trade FOR at the deadline.
  12. Given what all star level closers have got at the deadline in recent years I’d say that value is low. Way way way too low
  13. He hasn't given up an earned run his last two starts.
  14. I 100% do not want to see him in September, his secondaries still need a ton of work. They've made improvements this year but if he's going to reach his ceiling as a starter he needs more development. His fastball is elite, and can get guys out right now at the MLB level, but if they bring him up now he's a reliever that's it.
  15. The trade would probably be viewed a lot differently if Jeter Downs panned out.
  16. Giolito has been lights out his last 5 starts. I told ya'll he had upside.
  17. Honestly, I think a Toro/Gonzalez platoon gives you just as good if not better production at 1B than Hoskins. Maybe not, but BTV accepts the trade. A slight overpay for us. But I think Pitt and Boston would do it, not sure about Philly. Honestly IDK maybe they would. Seems like they'd be giving up on Abel and trading a top guy out just to get Duran.
  18. Hector Ramos hit a ball with an exit velo of 107.7 yesterday. Ramos is 17. I'm trying to do some research on the hardest hit ball ever by a kid under 18 years old. I'm sure this is not a record but so far I can't find anyone 17 and under who has ever hit a ball that hard. He might be the next big thing, keep your eyes open.
  19. Baseball America also just recenlty updated their top 100. 1. Roman Anthony 8. Marcelo Mayer 49. Payton Tolle 57. Franklin Arias 74. Brandon Clarke 88. Jhostynxon Garcia. 6 guys in the top 100 after recently graduating Campbell ain't too shabby. You'd have to believe Valera is close as well and Perales could be in there if he was healthy And in case you were wondering. 35. Kyle Teel 53. Braden Montgomery
  20. Well that's just the thing I was getting at earlier. If they have a 4 player deal and a 5 player deal they value the same....why not go with the 4 player? At a certain point just adding more pieces to a deal is also creating a 40 man crunch for a team 1-3 years down the road. I think you need to up the anti by quality of player....not number of players. I think to keep it realistic, 4-1 should be our max for player deals.
  21. BTV calculates Arias/Tolle/Campbell/Abreu as a slight underpay but it accepts it as a fair trade for Skenes. But ultimately it would come down to competitors bids and how Pitt likes those guys. If Pitt really likes those prospects that's a strong offer, if they're not so high on a few of those guys then they're going to take someone else's offer. From a value stand point, it's certainly not a crazy proposal.
  22. As I said to Moon, and I could be wrong but I can't remember a time I've seen it, I'm not sure how realistic a 6 for 1 deal is.
  23. My only issue with this is you have 6 players going back for 1, not sure I should throw rocks after putting out a bunch of 4 for 1s. But we have seen that before. But at some point you can't just add QTY, even if they're all really good prospects. Every teams has some guys in there system and they're just creating either a current or future 40 man roster crunch by taking on QTY. This is why I think the deal would get done with big names. I'm thinking they need MLB ready level talent at the top, Maybe Bello to give them a pitcher + Roman Anthony, the Perales/Arias to sweeten the pot.
  24. If Trevor Story can put together a few good months as he's looked good in flashes recently he'd be the type of candidate I could like to see get it. It also means a lot to the team to have him get going.
  25. BTV accepts the deals Juan Valera/Wilyer Abreu/Payton Tolle/Roman Anthony for Skenes Jarren Duran/Brayan Bello/Marcelo Mayer/Justin Slaten Luis Perales/Roman Anthony/Kristian Campbell. I know it's BTV, but that's the level of talent we would likely have to consider to get the talks moving.
