    He's going to get an extra option year though, isn't he? Also, I think if you truly believe a guy has talent and a chance to be a TOTRS you don't have such a short leash on putting him in the pen. I think the Sox are starting him at AAA no matter how this conversation goes. He probably breaks into his MLB career as a reliever but depending one how they view his development this year he probably goes right back into the rotation in 2027 just like you will see with Tolle this year. (who very well may end up back in the pen at some point)

    I think what MVP's take is that he's a bullpen arm so why delay the invevitable and get him up in the pen now where he can help the big leauge team. Especially seeing how he has no options left. Normally I'd agree, but given his level of talent I think you have to give him more time as a starter and It seems very likley to me based on what we hear that this is how it's going to transpire for now. I do think we see him in a bullpen role in Boston by the end of the year though.

    You seem to be really against Perales in the rotation. If a guy has TOTR potential why wouldn’t you at least start him there this year? there doesn’t really seem to be anyone anywhere that has a problem with him continuing to start, for the moment at least

    Don't shoot the messagnger, this is how the Sox are playing it. You seem to have an affinity to trade or move Perales into the pen. That's ok, opinions are like a$$$$$ we all got one including me. Personally I think, and I believe the Sox think this way too that there is more value in taking the chance to see what he can do in the rotation. Is there risk there? absolutley, but if teams didn't take that risk Crochet might be pitching 1 inning at a time in Chicago still.

    I think we all know some Prospects are more tradable than others. Teams obviously have a prefernce to keep certain guys because they believe in their talent or they need the depth there. I'd say that Perales is held in a much higher regard than Travieso, now I don't think that means Perales won't be traded at all. But I certainly do NOT think the Sox are actively shopping him and I see no reason to believe they are.

    That's a subjective opinion, I'm fairly certain the Boston Red Sox are going to give him a long look in the rotation down in WOO this year. He's very highly regarded. He very well could end up in the bullpen, but his path to get there for the time being is most certianly likely the rotation for now.

    I don't think there's any chance they move Perales to the pen. He's starting in WOO, not may we see him in the pen mid to late year? much more likley.

    I think the swing man role for Crawford does make the most sense. I don't think this is highly probable, but I wouldn't be 100% surprised if someone like Bello was moved for an upgrade in the rotation.

    I was thinking the same thing about Crawford being on the chopping block, but he might just be one of the best options for that swing man/long relief role that they love so much.

    Maybe, maybe not. But like I said before these pitching lab nerds like what they like. They don't look at what a guy did in ERA last year or the year before. They look at his velo, his extension, his spin rate etc etc etc. they look at the delivery and the arsenal and they think they can tinker and change. It's not about what you or I think it's about what the Sox think. They were literally willing to pay him for one full year to be injured to see what he can do in 2026. They obviously see something in Sandoval that they like and that's why I'm slotting him into the rotation. Not because it's my choice but because that's the way I see things in terms of how I think the Sox think and operate. Now, he may show up to spring training and lay a bunch of eggs and their perception of him may change. But right now, a back end spot of the rotation is his to lose.

    To be fair, I think the jury is always out. These guys should never stop being judged. If we did, we'd still be giving John Henry a free pass for all he's done.

    I think the Rotation right now might be. Crochet/Gray/Bello/Sandoval/Oviedo. Tolle/Early/Crawford/Harrison are in AAA with the odds of one of those guys being traded pretty high. Perales and Tolle certainly start the year in AAA as they're not done cooking. But I can see both in Boston at some point in 2025. Perales might go the Tolle route, find his way into Bostons bullpen with an eye towards starting in 2027.

    The Sox certainly do seem to be doubling down on the guys coming off TJ. The following is a little bit of hyperbole on my part, but maybe the Sox think since almost everyone is getting TJ at some point nowadays maybe signing all the guys coming off of it will lead to the maximum amount of time inbtween their next surgery

    Guzman may turn out to be an underrated guy in this trade, or not. But he certainly helps build up depth in the catching ranks for a system that has literally almost no catching depth.

    Teams that can draft, scout, develop, and target pitchers well can take talented arms that haven't had success yet and turn them into really good players. The Sox have not been that team for a long time, but they did better last year and we can see the improvements on the farm. We know this is the ambition and the goal of one Craig Breslow who isn't just the POBO but also a former pitcher. I'm going to let the man cook, and see what these kids can do before I go off and judge them and base my opinions on them from what their ERA was last year.

    For me, the only real worry about Gray is his age, and he's the type of pitcher who ages well because he doesn't rely on velocity. He could easily put up 4-5 WAR this year I yearn for more, but people have been underestimating this move.

    If we used a multi year scale, only 13 pitchers in all of baseball have put up a 10+ War the past 3 season combined. One of them is named Sonny Gray

    I don't disagree that Kelly is really good, but my position on what consitutes a #1 has shifted the last year. If we got by 1-30 in FWar for a #1 and 31-60 for a #2 so on and so forth, we get bottom of the barrel pitchers before we get to what a "#4 starter" should be. Think of it this way, only 52 pitchers even qualified last year. Only 38 of those guys had a WAR above 2.0 I think what us fans consider a #1 pitcher isn't something there are 30 of, but rather maybe 10 any given season.

    No, but unlike Ragans you're not counting on any of those guys to be your #1-#3. Sandoval, Crawford, Dobbins, Harrison....those are all guys in your #4 or #5 spot. Sandoval at #5 if they actually traded for Ragans and kept Bello.

    I don't think that's necessarily true. Whitlock looked pretty darn good as a starter before he got hurt, if he worked out as a starter he would have been 1000% more valuable. He had an injury before and missed time, this is why he was available for the taking from the NYY. The Sox were right to try, his case is not all to different that another Red Sox pitcher who moved into the reliever role after an injury and his team decided to move him back into the rotation despite concerns. His name Is Garrett Crochet. If the White Sox went that route, he wouldn't be an ACE right now and probably wouldn't even be on our team.

    Ragans history concerns me as well, but value isn't built by solely what you did last season.
