  1. I don't fully disagree, but if the Sox see something in him they think they can tweak he could be the steal of the deadline.
  2. You know Dylan Cease can be much better than that, and even if he's as good as he is now the Sox could still use a starter to lengthen the rotation. Is he going to be an overpay? probably, but any more than the rest of the pitchers going at the deadline? if anything he might come a little cheaper than he otherwise would have given his performance this year. Which is at least partially due to absolutely terrible defense behind him. At the very least, he's going to be an upgrade over Buehler/FItts, and if he turns back into the pitcher he was for several years prior (he's just 29) he'll be a 1-2 punch with Crochet at the top of the rotation. I'm not saying I'm personally 100% for it, but I'm certainly not against it.

  4. And I don't have hate for Devers, I will always love Devers. It's possible to hold criticism for someone and still hold them in a high regard. I love Devers....but he acted like a baby about moving to 1B and it got him a ticket out of town.
  5. Told ya'll he'd play 1B in SF. It was never about not wanting to play 1B it was about his spat with the front office, and while they may have mishandled it in the offseason....asking him to move to 1B after Casas went down was a perfectly reasonable ask. His reluctance to do so, regardless of his relationship and feelings towards the F.O. were a direct slap in the face to his teammates.
  6. You're almost certainly trading them then if you demand a home team discount.
  7. I mean, unless you're gunning for Skenes or Skubal yeah. Dude gets an 80 grade mustache
  8. Maybe in my dreams.
  9. Well yeah, if some of the guys were good last year then I can see why a crop of guys who you have never heard of could seem "not as good". In the end we only have what he said and what rounds are day 2 2024, and 2025. Regardless, players taken in the rounds 4-10 happened on day two both in 2024 and 2025. Maybe Larry could clarify for us.
  10. Yeah, but wasn't day two last year rounds 3-10? Did part of his comment get deleted, or are you combining comments?
  11. What rounds happened on day two last year? I thought it was rounds 3-10, was it not?
  12. a day two guy I'm intrigued by is Jacob Mayers, odds are against him of ever becoming a guy but it sounds like he has elite stuff but just zero control. If the Sox can get him to learn how to command his pitches, he might end up being the steal of the draft on day 2.
  13. BTV Accepts: Roman Anthony, Brayan Bello, Franklin Arias, and Payton Tolle for Skenes.
  14. I want to know how his secondaries look. He has an elite fastball, that alone will get him to the majors, he can dominate minor leaguers like that but he will have a hard time fooling mlb hitters 2nd time through an order like that. If anything, it makes sense to bring him up in a bullpen role, as he may still need refinement as a starter in the minors. But his ceiling is so high....I'm not sure I want to mess with that right now.
  15. well i mean, even organizations that draft pitchers well don't draft too many studs on day two but I get what you're saying. At the end of the day, we don't know what the team sees in these guys. I remember Payton Tolle was a very polarizing pick last year and now he's the 47th ranked prospect in all of baseball. Day two last year also looks good because of Brandon Clarke now. But for what it's worth Clarke was ranked 177th by BA last year. in rounds 4-10 Sox took pitchers ranked 258, 357, 157, 226, 304, 184. I think we just have to wait and see with those guys. Pitchers in general, I think a lot of these guys won't even pitch this year, and those who do may only be a few innings.
  16. Let’s rank deadline needs. Some choices may negate other choices and aren’t necessary connected at all but my list of priority is: elite starter. relief pitcher catcher starter depth high end reliever 2nd baseman 1st baseman
  17. lol, it’s not that big of a deal I think you mis interpreted me. I don’t refute what Houck was and that he’s been disappointing this year, nor did I say he wasn’t an ace last year (more like 1/2 a year). I just don’t think he put us is in a “really bad spot” like we had to rely on him to be an ace after a career of looking like a reliever putting together a half a really good season. Again, there were a lot of pitchers who have underperformed this year, I don’t think it’s partly any single one’s fault. you have 5 starters, and most teams end the season with 10 guys or more who have started games. Injury vs. non injury is superficial to my point.
  18. I mean........I would like to see a homegrown ace, maybe we can hold off on our top end pitching talent for at least a year. I don't wanna see Tolle/Perales/Valera go. Of course, it all depends on the return.
  19. Mayer definitely will, I thought it would be close for anthony but the Soxprospects definition is about 20 at bats lower than I thought. He will likely get 30 at bats by the end of the month.
  20. I mean.....I suppose it depends on ones personal thoughts on cigar smoking. Some guys enjoy a stoogie and a scotch every week. Point is Breslow made some decisions that were questioned at the time and are starting to look much better.
  21. Fair.........but I'm talking about a Craig Breslow cigar moment. ehh ehh? something different.
  22. How much better does the Bello, and Rafaela extensions look now? Breslow needs his John Henry cigar moment.
  23. It's really tough to say, beacuse the Soxprospects crew didn't specify if the projected rankings included Anthony and Mayer or if it figures them to graduate. Based on their definition of prospect eligibility it looks like Mayer might graduate and Anthony could just fall short, but assuming they both do I'd figure something like this. Maybe if both Marcelo and Anthony graduate then Phillips or Eyanson sneaks in at 10 but regardless that's 7 of your top 10 prospects being pitchers. The system is officially going to be pitcher heavy. Payton Tolle Franklin Arias Luis Perales Jhostynxon Garcia Kyson Witherspoon James Tibbs Brandon Clarke Juan Valera Connelly Early David Sandlin
  24. I'm sure we will see 1-2 go in rounds 11-20. I think we see less HS players being drafted moving forward. I'm sure NIL is making a difference too. Kids can go to college, increase their stock and have a fallback education AND make money now.
