  1. It's very weird right now. Sox are definitively better this year, but they're beat up right now, young, missing key players, and apparently don't have that last ingredient that could propel them from being a WS champion. It's weird, because we are at the end of the season and these games matter, right now they are in the playoffs but it's tight right at the finish line. Given their current bill of health, I'm not too optimistic about what we could do in a series. But you know what they say? just make the playoffs and seee what happens. What's the status of Roman Anthony? when he was injured initially they made it sound like he could be back in a week from now. That could certainly help them in the playoffs.
  2. That seems way to extreme to me if there was any truth to suitors not wanting the Boston position, firing Breslow after one season only makes that situation much worse. there’s value in continuity, and if you turn this front office into a revolving door you will lose more than just candidates, and a franchise that looks a year away from seriously competing could be thrown into chaos. Breslow seems to be fine, are a few moves worthy of critique? Yes, but no more than any GM who had the balls to actually make moves. people need to chill out and let these guys cook
  3. Giolito has been good this year, but it's not like he's the guy who was a top ten cy young candidate 6-8 years ago in Chicago, I don't know how good hes actually going to be 31-34? And why should I care about 4 years? I don't think the option should be to chose between this guy at 4 years and that guy at 4 years? WHy can't it be Giolito at 4 years vs. Valdez at 5 years? or 3 years of Giolito vs. 6 years of Gallen. Dylan Cease, plus the trade market????? we can do a lot better than Giolito.
  4. I had forgotten about Houcks timeline, Perales will certainly be on an innings limit next year, so even if he smashes his way to the bigs I'm not counting on him at the end of next year. Still you put another top guy with Crochet then I don't care who the 5th starter is. Still lots of other guys too, some we have forogtten about.
  5. A multi year contract scares me with Giolito, if they're going to throw $100 million at a pitcher in FA I think they can target someone better than Lucas.
  6. I would love Giolito for another year, but I don't feel as strongly about a long term deal. I think you offer him the Q.O. and if he walks Ces La Vie.
  7. Wait, I remember, a player can only receive a Q.O. one time.
  8. If Bregman opts out can we offer him a QO?
  9. Lucas Giolito reached 140.1 innings which means the Sox can no longer exercise their club option, it now becomes a $19 million mutual option, which will not be picked up so we can put him into the Q.O. category. I think the Sox have to go out and make another big more on a pitcher this offseason. 1. Crochet 2. FA/Trade 3. Bello 4. Patrick Sandoval 5. Tanner Houck/Cutter Crawford/Peyton Tolle/Kyle Harrison/Hunter Dobbins/Connelly Early/Richard Fitts That depth looks really good with another ace at the top. Cleaner bill of health on the offensive side and this team could take another step forward next year.
  10. You're comparing what definitviely happened to what might have happened. They may have made other moves to get Eyanson, they might not have. They had that extra pick for a long time, there was a lot of thought that went into how and where they scouted with that in mind. It's just as likely, if not more likely that they don't. But regardless, we know what they did do and they did save money with that pick to sign Eyanson. He's tied into the compensation.
  11. IF Eyanson and/or Phillips suck, your point is not moot. Well maybe maybe not. If they both suck it's likely a bad trade, but if one of them becomes a star I'd argue it was an good trade. I'll admit it's an easier argument for Phillips but I firmly believe in putting Eyanson in there as well.
  12. ???? not at all, the Brewers have a completely different draft board, and as we all know teams take guys who fall that they have money saved up for. Maybe the Brewers go underslot with that pick, or maybe they go underslot with their first pick and over. In the end, it doesn't matter what the Brewers do. It matters what Priester does.
  13. All hypothetical, but we know for a fact they saved the most money on Phillips and went the highest over on Eyanson. We can agree to disagree all day long but I'm going to always tie EYanson into the return.
  14. I apologize but that's a mute point. If win the world series instead of finishing dead last with 110 losses we get the 30th pick instead of the 1st pick. No one can argue "hey maybe that guy would be better" could it happen? sure, guys bust all the time but why make that argument? Also we netted a pick, the 33rd pick and who we took 87 instead? who knows but Eyanson was the 2nd highest ranked guy we took ahead of both our second round picks. Odds are he is going to be better than who we would have picked. Who we WOULD have picked we will never know but we definitively KNOW they took Eyenson with the money they saved, so regardless of who else they would have picked it's irrelevant when talking about eying eyenson into the future for the Priester return.
  15. It's actually not that much of a stretch AT ALL. Eyanson was their largest bonus above slot, and Phillips was literally their largest bonus given below slot. They don't take Eyanson without taking Phillips. And I don't think it's anything like the Jerez/Betts comp you said, because that was a different system where there were no real penalties. Since the new system has been in place not a single team has gone above 5% over their bonus pool. And even then, the comparision isn't between Eyanson and Phillips, it's grouping them together as a point of interest to watch in comparision to what Preister does. Because I think you don't get those two guys without that comp pick.
  16. Oh I have no ideal if he's as good as anyone we drafted, I mean if you go by pre-draft rankings he's the 2nd best player drafted despite being the 4th one taken but it's obvious the Sox like him. My main take away is, I think it's appropriate to tie him into the Priester return. I think Priester netted us John Holobetz, Yophery Rodriguez, Marcus Phillips AND Anthony Eyanson.
  17. Money spent on the draft equals results, it's no coincidence that before the last couple years the Sox were dead last in bonus pool money spent on pitchers in the draft for over a decade and that coincided with having very little pitching depth.
  18. Yes, but that's true for every single pick ever made. If we didn't draft anyone we drafted someone else, but we know the Sox liked Eyanson and he was their highest overslot bonus. I think it's very fair to assign his development into the return for Preister, regardless of who they would have taken or who else they would have.
  19. But Eyanson was actually drafted by the Sox.
  20. I'll say it again, and I'm sure not everyone will agree with this, but I think you have to tie Anthony Eyanson in with those guys too. I get the argument against it, because he is not directly related to that trade at all, but I think it's very plausible that the Sox do not have the money to sign him without the Phillips pick, which netted them 573,000 more money in the draft (after the Phillips signing). That was the largest savings from any signing, and aside from their 11th rounder Barret Morgan who got 350K over slot Eyanson was their only other overslot guy, and there highest overslot signing. So I firmly believe you do not get Eyanson without the Phillips pick.
  21. Maybe, but I was under the impression that they were looking to complete retool his arsenal and saw him as a project this year with their eyes towards 2026. Only so many guys can go down before a guy who wasn't your option is your option so who knows now
  22. Not as deep? That 2005 class was good, I don’t think you can compare it to 2025 in terms of depth because I don’t remember who they had ranked 21-60. That’s not listed, but it doesn’t mean guys weren’t there
  23. Luis Perales down at the complex pitching off a mound. He’s now sitting at 100 MPH
  24. It’s like the best basketball players get the ball more and make plays, so naturally they’re going to miss more shots too
  25. The best GMs who are unafraid to make moves have understandably made some bad ones. even DD made some bad bad moves in his day. id argue you can’t close the book on this one yet, we have no ideal what Marcus Phillips would turn into. I’d also argue you have to tie Anthony Eyanson into that equation as well. I don’t think they sign him without the Phillips pick
