Well it's the same exact scenario with anyone out there. If a player is good and available via free agency or trade other teams will be interested. We have to advocate for something, otherwise we are expecting them to do nothing.

ANd the more on board with Sato I am the more I'm thinking that Story over Yoshida is the way to go (in terms of who we are shipping off).

Well I think in this scenario you're banking on Duran making some kind of comeback and your outfield is Duran/Rafaela/Anthony, Arias replaces Durbin as an infielder, and you go out and get a pitcher in FA. Honeslty I'd be on board with all that if that pitcher was SKubal. This trade won't happen, but I was illustrating the type of trade it could possibly take. The Reds want MLB talent, and you're going to have to open up holes to fill a hole so it may come down to what you are more comfortable buy in FA. If you don't have a hole there well then plug up the one you create by trading. Sox will need to get creative, or bank on the roster they have -
I mean, any guy who ends up being a top 5 prospect in all of baseball is going to be hyped anywhere. Also, he's 22 and hasn't been healthy to really proove or disprove himself yet. I think he deserves another year before we start ragging on him.

If using FWar, last year a free agent on average cost $8.1 million per WAR. The qualifying offer last year was $23.15 That means to a team, a player that projects to be a 2.85 War player or above, is worth the Q.O. Obviously age and health factor in as well, and I suppose we can't rule out the 2027 cba effect as well

I think he gets a Q.O. if NY is perfectly comfortable with him accepting it. Free agency is thin so he doesn't have a ton of competition on the market and a 3 WAR player is roughly worth a Q.O. salary.

Everyone gets injured, it just sucks when it's at the very beginning of a guys MLB career. It begs one to ask the question. "is this who he is? a guy who can't stay healty or is this just a fluke" For what it's worth, Anthony did not have the injury history year after year that Mayer had and I still think the sky is the limit with him. The team was wrong to rely so heavily on him his first full season, but that is 100% on the team not the young man. I really don't get the Roman Anthony hate at all.

This is why I think we need to just stick it out with Story and get rid of Yoshida. Without any trades or moves ideally your infield is Durbin/Arias/Mead/Contreras. If one of Arias or Mead struggle and Story is healthy he plug into that position. And if that comes to fruition we must all pray we get 2022 or 2025 Trevor Story. If those guys all succeed and Story is healthy, he can slide into the DH position. Of course, we could trade for someone like Elly, but as I stated earlier this is looking at the roster in the absence of any additions.

Well look at that, we both got jokes. Before 2026 one could of said Story's arm was just as good as Alex Bregmans, but his arm speed slowed way the f*** down in 2026. Maybe he's better in 2027, but he should probably never touch the left side of an infield ever again. -

And immediately after that came: "That is just simply not true and let me state right now that I do think RBI's are important and a skill to have a nack to put the ball in play when it matters most and guys are on base. I think both those things can be true at the same time, and I happen to believe EXACTLY that" I think it's fair to say that statement is in no way saying RBI's are not important or desired.

Maybe they win two more games and are in the same exact position. Maybe Alonso goes off. I don't disagree with you here Red, and if anything you guys have won me over on the Alonso should have been priority #1 last offseason but I just don't think this narrative that Contreras has to be "poo poo'd" because he was traded for and Alonso wasn't signed. I dont' think subracting Contreras and adding Alonso puts this team over the top, last offseason the narrative here that was largely shared on this board was the Sox needed two bats. I see no reason why the argument can't be "the Sox should have Signed Alonso" rather than "if the Sox got Alonso instead of Contreras" I like the latter better.

At this point I'd take Alonso, if I can dump Yoshida he's the perfect DH. It also leaves a path for Casas if he ever gets his s*** together (which is looking insanely unlikely at this point) but tarry not because we have the "con-man" for a few more years. I'd be perfectly content with Rutchman/Alonso/Contreras/Arias/Durbin/Mead/Abreu/Rafaela/Anthony

Contreras defense is still better than Alonsos, and there's nothing wrong with envisioning them both being in this lineup, or at least in an alternative universe where the Sox signed ALonso last offseason. I also think it was easier for people to have optimism on Casas because of his youth. It's not uncommon for players to get better at defense just like they do at the plate and on the rubber. Alonso has been in the league for years and at 31 years old at the time you kind of knew what you were going to get with him.
