  1. Geez give the kids a break. Bring in Mike Carp.
  2. I like the thought but I think Drury will most likely man third (Cash has said it's his best position) and Wade/Toe will platoon second until Torres is ready. Unless Andujar mashes and plays competent third base during the spring, I think he ends up back in AAA.
  3. I think this is a good deal. Obviously time will tell, but at this moment it's a good deal for the Yanks. Solak is our 4th best infield prospect and we're pretty flush with right handed pitching prospects, especially ones who likely project as backend bullpen pieces. So losing Widener is not that big of a loss imo. We dealt from our strengths. As for Drury, he's a solid piece who can play 2nd or 3rd (both big league positions of need) and who is still young and has more upside. It gives us more flexibility with our infield if Andujar/Torres/Wade are not ready to take on a bigger role. I'd give this trade a B.
  4. Good for you guys. Was hoping that Arizona signed him or that you would sign him to an overpriced contract. Neither happened. Bummer.
  5. He pitched on the Yankees for like a fifth of a year. He also pitched 13+ years with other teams. I see what you're trying to do
  6. Players should oppose the luxury tax in the next CBA. If it didn't exist then the top players would have signed by now.
  7. He's a worse Stephen Drew. And possibly a worse Pete Kozma.
  8. I think Lasagna will be top 100 by year end as well
  9. Even if last year is somewhat of an outlier for Hosmer, I wouldn't say he's barely better than Moreland. MM has a 93 OPS+ over the past two seasons, Hos has 117. Plus he's in his prime coming off his best year whereas MM has been below average since 2015. I'm not arguing that he's worth $20M a year, but he would definitely improve the team and he is definitively better than MM.
  10. Hosmer isn't a star but I don't get all of the hate. He's a former top prospect entering his prime as a 27 year old coming off a career year hitting .318/.385/.498 w/ 25 HRs and 94RBIs on a pretty bad Royals team. His glove is overrated but I'd say it's still above average. I think he'd be an upgrade at first for a lot of teams, including Boston. He'll probably get overpaid but so does pretty much everyone in free agency. At least he'll provide some value.
  11. I have no issue with a luxury tax. It's meant to keep teams with larger markets from gaining a competitive advantage just because of their geography. The problem I have is with teams who don't spend at all. If you're gonna punish teams who spend too much, you should also punish teams who don't spend enough. Why should teams like LA, NY and Boston subsidize smaller market teams just so they can put out s*** lineups so that their owners can pocket an extra 20 mill??
  12. If I'm going for a Cleveland pitcher I prefer Churrasco over Saladbar. Anyway I know this is not something any Yankees fan wants to hear but I think the best option if they're serious about getting another SP is signing Darvish and trading Gardner to make cap room. We have a glut of OFers and nobody is gonna take on Ellsbury's contract.
  13. I feel like the Yankees aren't actually serious about getting Darvish. Maybe just trying to push up the price for Houston.
  14. Only 10 months until the 2019 thread opens
  15. Exciting lineup. Of course no team's lineup is ever fully intact over the course of an entire season. But I think one of the overlooked parts of the Yankees is that they have good depth in the form of MLB ready top prospects. For 2018 ZiPS projects the Yankees to have an MLB most 27 players who are +1 WAR or greater (next highest is Brewers with 25). 1 WAR isn't great, but to have that many players above replacement level on a roster is kinda ridiculous.
  16. Besides the Marlins fire sale last month, this has been the most boring offseason that I can remember.
  17. That'll never happen. Bank of America is the official bank of the Yankees, not Chase.
  18. I agree that I'd want Andujar to get a chance. But Nunez is essentially the same player as Andujar (in terms of strengths/weaknesses), a pure hitting infielder with questionable fielding skills. I don't think you can have both of those guys on the 25 man roster. I doubt Toe is going anywhere, and Torres is almost certainly gonna start the season in AAA. So that leaves Toe, Wade, Andujar, and whoever else the Yankees add to field 2 starting spots and one utility role on the 25 man roster. If the Yankees sign Nunez then I think Andujar gets left off of the 25.. but if they sign a glove-first infielder, I think Andujar gets a spot and Wade is sent to AAA. This is all just speculation though, for all we know Cash will swing a trade for Machado this week and make us all look like fools.
  19. I'd rather get a sure glove guy as a veteran infielder than Nunez. I haven't seen Andujar play too much, but I have seen plenty of Nunez and I don't think he would be much of a defensive upgrade over Andujar. I'd be cool with Kendrick or Josh Harrison (although the price is probably too high for him) or Todd Frazier or Lowrie or heck even Stephen Drew. Then you can rotate some combo of Player A/Toe/Torres,Wade,Andujar and have them bat 8th & 9th.
  20. What was his fWAR by season? Just curious.
  21. Even though he actually won a Cy Young, thinking of Porcello as a CY caliber pitcher makes me chuckle.
  22. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like McCutchen and Cole are overrated. Cutch did have a bounce back season last year but it's still not close to the production he put up in 2014/15.. and I feel like his current reputation as a top player has been riding off of his past greatness. As for Cole, the guy just scares me. And not in a good "oh dayyumm he nastyy" kinda way. There are just a lot of red flags around the guy and he's coming off of a mediocre year. I would maybe say "buy low" but if Gleyber Torres is low, then go $%^* yourself Pittsburgh.
  23. I think we still need a veteran infielder. Torres will probably start the year in AAA (because of service time) and I would prefer not to have two of Wade/Toe/Andujar in the lineup at the same time. Maybe try to snag Jed Lowrie? As for the starters I'm fine with the current rotation with Adams as the 6th. Would Cole make us better? Yeah, but I don't think by that much. He could be the next Pineda, dominant stuff that does not translate into real production.
  24. I was being jocular. A Yankees fan starting a thread on the Red Sox board about the shortcomings of the Red Sox.. why stop there??
  25. Good thread. Jacko, next we should start one about the Yankees tremendous depth. And then one about how the Yankees have already locked up the East until 2020
