  1. They should have a salary floor. I'm sure players would be in favor of this as well. Something like all teams needs to have at least a $100M annual payroll averaged over a 3 year period.
  2. Matt Harvey to be DFA'd by the Mets. That's quite a turn his career has taken over the last few years.
  3. Not true. Andujar is already the best 3B in baseball!
  4. Yankees and Red Sox will have a two game series in London in June 2019. I feel like that kind of rivalry game will be wasted on the Brits.
  5. And the bullpen hasn't allowed a run since April 26th (0 ER over the last 21 innings). The pitching obviously won't be this good for the whole season, but it's nice to see it even out after such a s***** start.
  6. The place where Manny and Papi used to hang????
  7. Can't hate on Mookie, he's one of the top players in the game. But I have always thought it was strange that he bats leadoff instead of 3rd or 4th. Gotta think he'd be driving in a lot more runs a couple of spots down in the order.
  8. Sheffield is actually lined up to go in Monty's slot since he pitched last night (6 IP, 3H, 3 BB, 9K). Obviously the walks are concerning but his stuff is top notch. I doubt they'll jump him from AA to the Majors but ya never know.
  9. Hopefully he just banged his elbow on a wall or something
  10. Don't know why I'm diving back into this... Austin obviously slid with his cleats up. But if you see the video, Austin's leg only gets pulled to the side of the bag after his cleat gets stuck on Holt's pants as Holt is moving his leg away from the bag. So the order of operations for you math nerds is that 1) he cleats him near the bag, 2) cleat gets stuck on Holt, 3)Holt moves leg, 4) stuck cleat gets pulled as Holt moves I'm not defending Austin for sliding cleats up. This isn't the 80's anymore and the unwritten rules are different now. But it's not like it was some egregious act.
  11. Clean? No. Legal? Possibly, I'll need to check the Constitution
  12. Morton pitching looks like a video game. How the hell did he get this good?
  13. The questions around Austin have always been what position is he gonna play and can he hit right handed pitching. He has hit righties so far this season but I won't say he can hit them long term based on four weeks of production. And he is a below average fielding first baseman, an even worse corner outfielder, and third base?? Never heard that one before but I can't ever imagine Boone wanting to put him out there unless half the team is injured. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rip on the guy. I happen to like him. And he's still young so he has room to improve. But let's not be hasty in anointing him as the next big piece of this team.
  14. Walker looked better at the plate this weekend and I think given more playing time he'd round into form. But it's hard to take Austin out of the lineup when he's mashing. I expect Austin to cool down at some point before Bird returns, and then Walker will get to play more and start to hit. Then when Bird comes back, Austin goes back to AAA (or gets dealt) since he has pretty much no versatility.
  15. 2018 No Hitters 1 thrown against the Red Sox 0 thrown against the rest of MLB Sorry I couldn't resist, I love snark.
  16. 14-1* against the Twins since 2015. And since 2002, I saw a stat that we were something like 80-38. Pretty crazy. *edit: 14-1 at Yankees Stadium
  17. Austin still effectively gets more games. He's suspended for 4 games and would have likely played all 4 games. Kelly is suspended for 6 but as a reliever he'd probably only pitch in 2-3 of them.
  18. Yeah I'm surprised it's taken so long. But all for the best, Austin has been on a tear: .305/.379/.661 (OPS of 1.040, OPS+ 178) Bird might not have a spot when he comes back if this lasts.
  19. I wonder if all of these late signing FAs are sucking so much because they missed spring training? I guess we'll find out if they start to pick it up in May.
  20. The hitting has been great but the real story: only 3 runs allowed the last 3 games, all 3 starters pitched 6+ innings. That'll be the key to our success, the starters not getting stomped after 3 innings.
  21. We finally got Cole!!! Just not the one we wanted..
  22. Yanks are supposedly bringing up Torres tomorrow. It's not official so there is no known corresponding move, but my guess is Wade goes back to Scranton.
  23. Can you guys lose a game already??
  24. I disagree about Sanchez. He's still only like 24 or 25 and has improved as a catcher. The passed balls are annoying, but he does catch a lot of pitchers who throw breaking balls with very high spin rates. He has a cannon throwing arm, quick pop up when throwing, above average pitch framing ability, and he calls games pretty well. You don't give up on a young catcher with all of those traits.
  25. It's actually better for the roster that Ellsbury is on the DL. We don't really need 5 OFers on the 25.
